UW-La Crosse politica science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, joined Friday’s La Crosse Talk PM, as we discussed the passing of legend Bob Uecker, the banning of TikTok and what might be the top issues in La Crosse’s mayor elections.
Began the show with the TikTok ban, and as of this post, it has gone into affect with the company’s CEO embedding a message trying to give credit to President-elect Donald Trump to bringing it back.
After that, we spent a few minutes on the chaos that is Minnesota’s state government, and likened that to what happened when Wisconsin Democrats bolted from Madison for Illinois during Act 10.
That led into a conversation about campaign ads being back and the Wisconsin Supreme Court elections coming to the spring ballot. That race will most likely be the most expensive state supreme court race in US history — surpassing last year’s Wisconsin Supreme Court race, which holds the record.
With media ad buys, comes campaign funding, and we discussed how Wisconsin could lose its best fundraiser, Ben Wikler, the state party chair, and how politics often isn’t ready for these things. With his potential departure, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers possible retirement or who the next presidential candidate might be, we discussed how parties never seem to give the limelight to someone waiting in the wings.
The second half of the show began with how inept Wisconsin and perhaps the world is at producing energy and how Microsoft is buying Three-Mile Island to restart its nuclear plant.
We then somehow transitioned into the La Crosse mayoral race, how important that election is, what the top issues might be and how thorough we should be in covering the candidates.
Lastly, we reminisced about Milwaukee Brewers legend Bob Uecker, who passed away Thursday at 90, and how — as a society — we did Uecker right showing our love and appreciation for him before his death.
