It might be harder to find an Uber or Lyft today. Drivers across the country are holding a one-day strike.
The group Justice for App Workers is demanding better pay and protections from what it says are unfair app deactivations. Drivers say the companies use algorithms to decide when to deactivate a driver's accounts based on a rider's complaint. And, the group says, Black drivers are more likely than white drivers to have their accounts deactivated.
Uber and Lyft say they allow drivers to dispute complaints. Lyft says its drivers make just over $23 per hour after expenses. Uber says its U.S. drivers make an average of $33 per hour.
Uber and Lyft say previous protests have not had a substantial impact on driver availability.
