A Trenton cop is facing charges for alleged gang activity. New Jersey’s attorney general says 38-year-old Officer Rudy Lopez had multiple discussions since 2021 with a state prison inmate, during which they allegedly coordinated illegal activities, including planning the assault of a person they believed cooperated with the inmate’s prosecution.

Lopez is also accused of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. Investigators say he lied on his job application by omitting his association with known gang members.

He faces a long list of charges and potentially decades in prison if convicted.
