Could your next vacation destination be... Afghanistan? The Taliban is training a new class of students about the ins and outs of hospitality. Afghanistan's economy is struggling, its infrastructure is poor, and there's a lot of poverty there. But foreigners are visiting, encouraged by the sharp drop in violence and increased flight connections, with hubs like Dubai and the bragging rights that come with vacationing in a rather unusual destination.
Numbers aren't big, but there is a buzz around Afghan tourism right now. In 2021, there were 691 foreign tourists. Last year, there were 7,000.
