Recall alert: BMW overheating issue, Samsung stove accidental activation

View descriptionShare

BMW is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles to deal with an overheating problem. The starter motor in these vehicles can overheat and not start. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there have been a dozen consumer complaints but no injuries. BMW will update the software on a number of products, including certain 3, 7 and 8 series, as well as a variety of BMW SUVs, mostly 2019-21 models. Vehicle owners who are affected by the recall will be notified by mail later next month.

Meanwhile, Samsung is recalling more than 1 million electric ranges used for stovetops after reports of 250 fires and dozens of injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these slide-in ranges have front-mounted knobs that can be activated by accident if humans or pets unintentionally bump into them. That poses a fire hazard. The recalled ranges were sold between May 2013 and August 2024 online at Samsung.com as well as in retail stores nationwide — including Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe’s. Consumers are urged to contact Samsung for a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their model.
