Remember that photo of the pope wearing a floor-length designer puffy coat? It became known as the Balenciaga pope meme -- and it was fake, generated by artificial intelligence. Today, Pope Francis will warn the leaders of the wealthiest seven countries in the world about the dangers of AI.

He will become the first pontiff to address a G7 summit. The pope used his annual peace message this year to call for an international treaty to ensure AI is developed and used ethically. He argues that a technology lacking human values of compassion, mercy, morality and forgiveness is too perilous to develop unchecked.
