Philadelphia International Airport blames stormy weather for cancelations, delays, overnight wait times for baggage claim

View descriptionShare

There are big problems this morning at the airport because of the weather last night.
There are 37 cancelled flights and just as many delays, according to tracking website Flight Aware.

This woman from Croatia tells NBC10 she was on her flight at 7:30 last night, ready to depart. But then they told everyone to get off: "We were waiting for...I don't know how many hours. At almost two in the morning, they told us the flight is delayed and they can't do anything about it, because of the weather. But the weather was later okay as we all saw."

There are also big problems with luggage. Some people have been waiting for their bags since last night.

An airport spokesperson says airlines are responsible for baggage. But, they say when there's lightning near the airport like there was last night, all outdoor operations like loading and unloading bags on planes are halted for thirty minutes after the last lightning flash.
