Philadelphia heat health emergency in effect through Wednesday

View descriptionShare

The city's heat programs will be active. More than 150 cooling centers, like pools and libraries, will be open. Enhanced outreach will help people experiencing homelessness and special field teams can conduct home visits. If you're worried about someone's well-being, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging's Heatline will be open between 8:30 a.m. and midnight today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

Officials are urging people to check up on older friends, neighbors, and loved ones. The city is advising not to go outdoors for long periods of time and to avoid strenuous activity. Pregnant women, small children, and pets are also at higher risk of heat stress.
