Man admits to shooting at police during 2022 pursuit in Northeast Philadelphia

A former teacher in the Lower Merion School District will spend 30 years in prison for soliciting sexually explicit photos and videos from young girls, including at least one of his students.

Jeremy Schobel, 33, was a teacher at Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr. Over several years — and often from his classrooms — investigators said he faked extensive online profiles to entice his underage victims. Officials said he would pose as a young girl on Snapchat.

Schobel was arrested in June 2023 and pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in March. Federal prosecutors said the 30-year sentence closes the book on Schobel’s years of catfishing and gives his victims a measure of justice.

Former Lower Merion teacher sentenced to 30 years for soliciting explicit images of underage girls

Police are looking for a man who stabbed another man during a robbery early Thursday morning in South Philadelphia. It happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. at Sixth and Wolf streets, near Mifflin Square Park.

Police said a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. His attacker took off with the victim’s bicycle. Police said the suspect is believed to be a man in his 30s. He was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
