Ferguson police release body cam footage showing protester knocking officer to sidewalk

View descriptionShare

Police in Ferguson, Missouri released officer-worn body camera footage showing a protester tackling a Black police officer on the 10th anniversary of Michael Brown’s death. That officer suffered a life-threatening brain injury.

Police Chief Troy Doyle says the body camera footage shows the suspect charging at Officer Travis Brown on a sidewalk outside the police station after protesters attempted to pull down a perimeter fence. One of the videos released appears to show that man on top of the officer on the sidewalk.

Police say a defendant already charged with assault faces a new assault charge for allegedly kicking another officer in the head.

Ferguson became synonymous with the national Black Lives Matter movement after 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by Officer Darren Wilson in August 2014.

Officer Travis Brown is not related to Michael Brown.
