Family and friends of Eddie Irizarry will hold a balloon release Wednesday evening in memory of the man who was shot and killed by police one year ago in Fairhill.

It's taking place at 6 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery on Levick Street in Tacony.

Irizarry was shot and killed by then-officer Mark Dial as he sat inside his car during a traffic stop on Willard Street near Westmoreland.

Police say Irizarry was holding a knife that Dial mistook for gun.

Last week, prosecutors dropped first-degree murder charges against Dial. He still faces third-degree murder and other charges.
