A 10-year-old boy is dead after a teenage driver ignored a crossing guard, jumped a curb and slammed into a house in New Castle County, Delaware, police said.
The 10-year-old and a 12-year-old boy were on the sidewalk near the intersection of Faulkland and Centerville roads in Wilmington when they were hit Monday afternoon. The 12-year-old suffered minor injuries.
Investigators said the teenager was driving westbound on Faulkland Road and crossed the double yellow line into the opposite lane, then struck the boys on the sidewalk.
The driver continued until he struck a house on the southwest corner of Faulkland Road.
A neighbor told NBC10 he believed the car was going 60 or 70 miles an hour.
Police said the driver was a 17-year-old boy. He was treated for injuries at the hospital. Officials have not yet said if he is facing any charges.
