AstraZeneca could move its vaccine manufacturing plant from UK to Philadelphia

View descriptionShare

AstraZeneca is warning the British government it could move its vaccine manufacturing plant to Philadelphia from England, according to the Financial Times. It reports the drug giant is expected to get tens of millions of dollars less in aid from the U.K. than it had been promised by the previous administration.

AstraZeneca makes the nasal flu vaccine FluMist at that site near Liverpool. It planned a massive expansion project there. The British drugmaker, which has its U.S. headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, told the Financial Times it's in constructive discussions with the U.K. government.

There are no discussions ongoing in the U.S. and, the paper reports, AstraZeneca also denies it's speaking with the government of India about moving the development there.
