The 2022 midterm elections are in the books and there's been no obvious red or blue wave. Democrats flipped Pennsylvania's Senate seat, as John Fetterman is projected to defeat Republican challenger Mehmet Oz. In his victory speech in Pittsburgh, Fetterman said he “never expected that we would turn these red counties blue, but we did what we needed to do.”
In the governor's race, Democrat Josh Shapiro is projected to defeat Republican Doug Mastriano. He thanked Republicans he said had voted for a Democrat for the first time, adding that with their vote “comes a responsibility to govern by bringing people together and getting things done.”
In South Jersey, incumbents held their U.S. House seats. Republicans had hoped for victory in New Jersey's 3rd District, which was redrawn after the 2020 census, but incumbent Democrat Andy Kim held on to his seat.
There are votes still being counted in Philadelphia and around the commonwealth. There’s an around-the-clock effort to count all the votes in Philly. City election officials say there are around 34,000 mail-in ballots that still need to be checked.
