SEPTA crimes down 45% from this time last year, report shows

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 (morning edition):
Five teenagers were in a stolen car when the 17-year-old driver ran a red light and crashed into a motorcycle, killing the motorcycle driver, police said. The teens fled on foot but all five were quickly arrested.
City Council’s public safety committee has approved a change in the way members of the Citizens Police Oversight Commission can be removed from their posts. The move comes after a commissioner was accused of leaking confidential information.


Chester County officials say six months after the county adopted a property tax rebate for volunteer firefighters and EMS, about 60% of those eligible have successfully applied.
A Germantown woman is once again a Methodist pastor after 20 years out of the clergy. She was defrocked after coming out as gay, which was against church law from the early '70s until May 1 of this year.

NFL kicker and Philadelphia native Brandon McManus is being sued by two women who claim he sexually assaulted them during a charter flight to London last year. McManus’ attorney vehemently denied the allegations.
Philadelphia City Council is expected to vote at this week’s session to remove the sunset provision from its hugely successful Eviction Diversion Program, making it permanent.
An 18-year-old was shot and killed last week when he intervened in a domestic violence incident in Roxborough. When someone witnesses or suffers abuse and feels that they are in imminent danger, advocates stress it’s important to call 911 for help.
