Mayor Parker declares success in her first effort to clean every city block

A fight inside a car in Point Breeze spilled onto the street, and police said the driver hit one of the people involved.
After finding three city departments going around required bidding procedures and others failing to set a dollar limit on some contracts, putting taxpayers at risk, Philadelphia’s city controller is recommending new measures to keep city departments from abusing no-bid contracts.
While the 76ers and Philadelphia officials continue discussions about building a new arena near Chinatown, New Jersey is reaching in for a steal.


Black nonprofit leaders are getting more support to bolster their projects, raise funding and serve their communities thanks to a new venture from the United Way.

A student at Upper Darby High School was found with a gun and synthetic drugs, which prompted a lock-in on Tuesday, according to the school district.
The woman charged in the beating death of her 2-year-old goddaughter more than three years ago in Northeast Philadelphia was sentenced to 5 ½ to 12 years behind bars during an emotional hearing on Tuesday.
A Norristown mother whose 6-year-old son died of a drug overdose pleaded guilty to charges related to the boy’s death on Tuesday.
For the third time in a month, a software glitch prevented SEPTA from collecting new fares from riders.
