The Power of a Personal Testimony

Published Dec 11, 2024, 6:45 PM

The power of a personal testimony. Follower of Jesus, you may have discovered that people who aren’t believers zone out when you share the details of the gospel. But if you share your own personal story of what God has done in your life.... they lean in. They listen! Your brothers and sisters in Christ are listening, too.

Curtin, Kate. Mornings. Not just on the radio. It's a podcast.

Too.

The power of a personal testimony. Follower of Jesus. You may have discovered the people who aren't believers. Well, they zone out when you share the details of the gospel. But if you share your own personal story of what God has done in your life, they lean in. They listen. And so we decided to just set some things aside that we had originally planned, and just open up one of our hours with open phones and share your God stories, your testimonies, whether it's coming to faith in Jesus the Lord, being faithful, helping you through a difficult time, whatever the case may be. And Kate, when we did that, it was it was it was a God ordained moment, wasn't it?

It was. The floodgates opened and it was a beautiful thing.

Take a listen. Let's go to Tabitha in Tampa first. Hi, Tabitha. Good morning to you.

So, just to share my testimony and a kind of like a nutshell, I did grow up in the faith. I was raised Christian, and as a teenager, I kind of, you know, walked away. I still believed in God. I still talked about God, but I wasn't necessarily living the life of God. And I was told that I couldn't have kids with my first husband. And it was really, um, heartbreaking as a woman. So I turned to drugs and alcohol and I walked away. But I still knew that I had God in me. And, um, I got addicted. And one day, a lot of people know that drugs can actually be very demonic. So one day it got really bad and I was contemplating taking my life, um, and God pulled me out of it and he led me to his word. And at this time, I had actually already had my second child. I just called out to God and I said, God save me. Jesus, just just save me. Show me what to do. So he turned me to his word, and he just opened my eyes to everything. And I just became so on fire for God. And just. He's revealed more to me than I have ever known about him in my life. And he came to tell me and he showed me that it is not religion, it's relationship. Because I will ask you all one question and that's going to be, did you know my son? So I tell everybody, do not be ashamed of your story because it's for his glory. And now I'm a wonderful mom of beautiful children. I'm actually a youth pastor, and I'm on the way of getting my bachelor's in biblical theology. And I love sharing my story with people because if it can help anybody bring closer to Jesus, then that's what it's for.

Hahaha.

Oh, this is this is just the first testimony that we've shared here this morning Tabitha. And it is.

Amazing.

Truly amazing. Thank you so much for calling and sharing that with us. Praise God for all that he has done in your life and continues to do. Let's go to Dan, our good friend Dan. Hi, Dan. Welcome. How are you doing?

I've been shot. Stabbed, car wrecks, blown up, all kinds of fun stuff. I've got PTSD, uh, I've been through addictions. I've had many, many challenges in my life. And the one thing during hard times, like being shot at and stuff in the military, is it just keeps recurring in my mind. The earth is suspended on nothing. That was in the Old Testament. I don't think there was a space program back then, so nobody knew that the Earth was suspended on nothing. You know, there are so many truths in the Bible that we can rely on, and I just hope that people who are going through despair just go into God's Word. You'll find solace. And I love you guys. Thanks for getting up before the crack of dawn. I think you're doing a great job. Thanks for.

Listening. Oh, thank you.

Thank you for calling. You're such a good friend of the program. Blessings my friend. Sharing our testimonies this morning. Let's go to Orlando next. And that would be Thomas. Hi, Thomas. What would you like to share with us this morning?

I was praying and on the way to work and I'm telling God, please allow me an opportunity that if you want me to speak or touch somebody with your word, you know, give me that opportunity. And then I saw you guys giving people that opportunity to learn. It's funny because when I, um, started going to church, my brother in law was like, you know, he was always inviting me and I would be like, oh, no, when I stop getting high. And I stopped getting drunk, I started going to church. And he kept telling me, you know, don't, don't, don't worry about that. Just come to church and let God, God, let God change you. So I started going to church and, you know, doing drugs for 30 something years. I gave my soul to God and he cleaned me completely. And it's been over six years now that I'm clean completely, and I think I thank him 100% for everything that he does in my life. And I'm so grateful. And I just had to share my story. For those that think that, you know what, you're so far out that God can't grab you, he can grab you. You just got to open your heart to him and he will help you.

Maybe Thomas is speaking directly to you this morning. Thomas, thank you so much. And the other thing I love about what you just said there is I was praying, Lord, please give me an opportunity to to encourage somebody else today, you know, to share my story, to be able to reach out to people in your name. See, this is a prayer we should pray each and every day. It's not like we pray it once and then we move on. This is something I pray for every day too. It's like, Lord, please make me a blessing to others in your name today.

Let's go to Orlando next and that would be anonymous. Hi anonymous. What do you want to share with us?

We hear a lot about unreached people groups, people that the gospel just hasn't been able to touch. I was in one of those unreached people groups 50 years. I was gay, didn't care. Had my gay lifestyle, my everything. Won't get into it here. And the last couple of years, God has really been speaking to me and giving me freedom in Christ. To walk away, to walk away from friends, to leave behind the old habits and really involved in my church, an awesome men's group at my church. And I just want to say, God, don't make gay. You may feel it. You may think it, but God needs you to be a child of God, and he wants to call you out of darkness into new light.

Amen.

Anonymous. Somebody I know needed to hear that right now. I have no doubt. I mean, somebody needs to hear all these stories. Maybe you were thinking. There is no way that I can escape this lifestyle. Maybe there is no way I can be accepted by Jesus because of where I'm coming from. You see the answer to these these questions right there. Anonymous or good friend? He he answered these questions for you, didn't he? The Lord is standing with open arms. No matter where you've been, no matter what you've done. He came to save sinners. And that's you and that's me. You can never out sin. The grace of God. You turn, you confess, you repent. And then he helps you and he frees you. I'm not saying there's not going to be a battle. There's a battle for all of us. And Satan doesn't want to let go of you. But Jesus is standing there saying, come to me, put your faith in me. Believe that I died for your sins, every single one of them on the cross. I took your punishment. I lived the perfect life you could never live. And when you come to me and place your faith in me, then I give you my righteousness. And when the father sees you, it's as if you never sinned. Because he's looking at my righteousness, not yours. Jesus walked out of the grave. The tomb was still empty. God accepted that sacrifice. He loves to forgive because that's who he is. Rigoberto from Lakeland.

God does exist. He is for real. Um, you're talking to someone that was caught up in the grips of addiction for almost 30 years. Um, and lived under a bridge for nine years. Uh, anything that was given to me, like the prodigal son, I squandered everything. Uh, and so, uh, March of next year, it'll be 21 years that I haven't turned back. It's been 21 years that, uh, Jesus has been able to restore me. Uh, in 1987, uh, I got diagnosed with being, um, HIV positive and, uh, uh, just trusting God, relying on God, surrendering to his will and not mine. Uh, has been a great journey. Um, there's been Hiccups with life showing up because it's easy when we're at the mountain top and see the promised land. But I've gotten to know my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, more than any time in my life when I've been in the valley. So I just want to encourage anyone, uh, it does get greater later. Trust in the Lord. And I'll close with this verse that's been, for me, one of the greatest verses that I've ever read in the Bible. Romans 623 for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. I want to thank you guys and have a great day.

Rigoberto, thank you so much. Oh my. I know what in the world. You know, I mean, we are so blessed, guys to be able to be here and hear these stories. What an honor. And I mean that it's an honor and a privilege, truly. Let's go next to Punta Gorda. And that would be Pete's. Hi, Pete. We're glad you're with us.

I just have a quick admonition to to folks who are maybe sitting next to somebody and they're not sure. Does this person know Jesus and ask them? I was 13 years old. I grew up in the church. Uh, a good friend of mine, one night when a fellow was preaching said, you know, this is a good time for you to give your heart to the Lord. I'd never been encountered. I'd never encountered a person asking me that question, though. I grew up in church. And I said, well, you know what? That's a great idea. And so I gave my heart to the Lord when I was 13. And, uh, nobody had asked me before, and I would just, uh, challenge my brothers and sisters that are listening. If there's somebody that, you know, maybe it's a child of yours or a friend. Uh, if you're not sure if they know Jesus, ask them. They just might be waiting for somebody to ask them to just give them hearts to Jesus. And I've done that. It's been 65 years now, and it's been a great life.

Pete, thanks for sharing that.

Yes.

Again, sharing your story, your testimony. There is a degree of boldness, right? Be bold and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. I believe that we talk ourselves out of saying things because, well, we're self-conscious. What if they think I'm a religious fanatic? What if I offend them? What if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if you're never going to have the perfect moment but you can see a door when it cracks open, right? It may not be wide open, but there may be a little crack. What do you have to lose? It's never. It's never the Lord saying, don't talk about me to somebody else. Now I realize timing and context is important and the Holy Spirit can lead us. I totally get that need to be sensitive to the spirit. However, who would rather you not say anything about the gospel and reach out to somebody, the Lord or the devil. Satan will always thwart your attempts to share the good news in your mind, unless you speak truth to his lies. The Lord is with me wherever I go. If I'm going to err on one side or the other, maybe this is something you're thinking about today. Great way to begin the day. If I'm going to err on one side or the other, if I'm going to go to one extreme or the other, it's going to be to share the Lord no matter what. And the best way you can share is with your story.
