Phoenix Children's Hospital MRI prep class saves families time, money

Phoenix Children's Hospital is saving kids time and money with a new program that teaches kids coping mechanisms that help them get through MRI scans without needing anesthesia.

"We come into a room and we're actually kind of doing just a prep class together." That's Lauren Strom, a child life specialist at PCH. She's one of the folks leading the charge to teach Children all about MRI's so they don't need anesthesia. Strom has books, models of MRIs, iPads and even... "We were able to get some VR goggles , more for the older kids, that's a 90 second prep of the MRI. The class takes about 30 minutes before the MRI to prep the kids in groups of four or five and is designed for kids ages 6 to 12. Taylor Kinnerup KTAR News.
