Matt and Billy recap the Cats' 28-18 loss at Tennessee.

Welcome everyone. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show. I am Matt Jones. Here another Tennessee loss, twenty eight eighteen tonight in neland stadium. You can give a shout, it's late at night, but we we fall back here Billy right, so right, you know everybody can stay up, uh eight, I'm twenty two eighty seven. We can talk about the game, or you can sort of talk about, you know, what happens with the program going forward three more weeks by week next week, but then three weeks and I don't know. I don't know what happens with UK football and stoops after that. I actually thought Kentucky played decently well tonight all things considered. I mean, they lost their quarterback early in the second half, without a couple of running backs. Barryon got hurt early in the game in the first quarter. The d fence had five starters out lost a sixth during the game. You know they were they were beat up, and all things considered, Playing on the road at Tennessee, the seventh or eight team in the country, who you've beaten two times there in forty eight years, I thought being competitive and having a shot was actually quite an accomplishment. It doesn't sort of excuse all the things that have gotten to this place. I mean, we have three straight games, I think with Florida, Auburn and Vandy that were really unacceptable performances. But I didn't really feel like this was one of them. I think a lot of the frustration fans have are about those other games bleeding into this one. As for tonight, you know, too many mistakes to win. Ultimately, I think the the game probably turned on the on the sack fumble, which also of course got Brock hurt. I mean, I think that's the key play of the game. You would, you know, you would set them up. They got the ball, they missed the field goal to start the second half. It's ten to seven, you have the ball, you're driving, you are even in field goal range. I mean, you have a chance to go up thirteen to seven, and then you take that sack and it's just a it's a terrible play. I mean it was offensive line, which held up pretty well in the first half, just kind of collapsed in the second half, especially on those back to back drives, the one where bron got hurt and then the next one where we just got blown up with the first drive with Whims at the offensive line just you know, it's just not good, and our tackles are not are really bad. And then the interior guys I actually thought played pretty well most of the game against a really good defensive line, but then in the second half it just kind of fell apart offensively. I really loved how they started the game. The scripted part of bush Hampden's play calls those first ten or fifteen we looked great. Makes you wonder sometimes, why don't we why don't we keep doing you know, what we do? At the beginning, they used will Cox a lot, they went downfield, and then they went away from will Cox and stopped going downfield. And then once they were down ten kind of went back to it with Whims it and it worked again. So makes you wonder why we get away from that sort of in the in the heat of the game, I thought the defense played pretty well, but you know, you just can't ask them to be out there all the time, having to to get stop after stop. The margin of error for this team is so small because of how bad the offense has been. I mean, you just the defense cannot make a mistake because if they do, they're gonna there. You know it's over. And I thought that's kind of what happened today. They just the whole first half it felt like we were kind of hanging on, hanging on, hanging on, and then I think with the with the the sack fumble and the injury to Brock, it just kind of fell apart. I thought it was when down eleven, twenty one to ten. I thought the drive where they go score with Whims, it was a very positive drive. It looked like they were playing loose twenty one to eighteen back in it, and then they get the ball, and you know, I think part of why I sort of have the opinion that I don't think the game was a complete disaster is you had the ball in the fourth quarter down three. You tell me before the game that's the situation. I'm probably gonna be pretty happy about it. But the problems for this this season are not tonight. I mean, it's not losing at Tennessee. I'm not sure if any of us really felt like we were gonna win even before the season started at Tennessee. The problem of these games the past few weeks and just the overall vibe of the program. You know, you heard Tom and Jordans say they didn't get the sense coming into this that the team was really all into it at all, which makes even night's performance maybe a little bit more surprising because I have got the sense with them that they kind of thought this could be a blowout this evening, so you get a buy now. Basketball season starts Monday. I think most people's focus now is going to that, and for the football team, it's going to be just kind of playing out the streak. It's a tough night, you lose to your rival. Louisville gets a huge win at Clemson in a game that a mere many ways was what you, I guess had hoped at some point this game would be. And the question is what's next. I think there's a lot of the fan base kind of done. I think most of the fan base is done with the season, and then there's a portion of the fan base done with with with the staff, and I don't really know where it goes from here. A couple of things on this game. The officiating crew, Billy was awful, and I don't mean like necessarily anti Kinte. He just like didn't seem to know what was happening. Was so disorganized. You know. One guy was like, my bad, there's ten less more seconds on there than I realized. There at the end of the first half, they missed that call where Brock gets knocked gets hit by the guy out of bounds and he just made the game was like four hours and fifteen minutes. Billy, why couldn't you have made it be shorter? That was awful.

It was really bad. And then the clock operator did whatever he wanted to do.

Yeah, the clock operator was like watching a different game. It's just sometimes it'd start to clock, sometimes stop it. They gave Tennessee, by the way, four timeouts in the first half. I don't know if anybody noticed that but me, But that fourth timeout they called, they didn't have a timeout. Go look at the ESPN game log. Tennessee took four timeouts.

Unbelievable.

How did they get to take four timeouts? I don't know. But to be fair, though they missed three field goals, they dropped the touchdown, maybe two touchdowns, so it could have been a lot worse. We didn't lose the game because the officials, but it didn't look like we got the A plus crew This week far as Tennessee, you know they're fans. Booing the players being hurt is a pretty low uh low act by them. You know that they will claim and this is true, that that that teams have been faking injuries against them to slow them down over the last three years. And I think that is true having watched Tennessee games that that teams do through that. I don't think Kentucky has a history of really doing that. There was that one time I remember where we had a guy do that was that last year, Billy, the one guy. I can't remember what game it was, but he sort of faced.

Was it the flop? Well, the flop was, Yeah, that was the ball game that was.

That was ridiculous. But I don't Here's the thing. Faking injuries is terrible. But the SEC literally yesterday sent out a memo. It said, if you do it, we're gonna be watching for it and you're gonna get suspended. Do people really think Kentucky would have for the first time this year, decided to start doing that tonight. And the other thing is if you're gonna think somebody's faking, you better know they're faking. And are those guys were not? And I'm glad Tom Hart and those dudes called them out, especially the chant. I don't have to say what the words are, but you heard it went over the air. You know, Tennessee fans are what they are. I think they are the Yukon basketball fans of of football, and you know they got a good team. But I wasn't surprised by the by the actions tonight. Still though, a heck of environment. Take those people out of it. The black and the lights and the crowd. Man, I mean, they know how to do a home game, and uh, the crowd makes a difference there, and I think it made a difference against Kentucky this evening. Hey, if I'm nine, two eighth twenty two eighty seven, we will take your calls, Billy and I. It's a late night show. This is probably gona be the latest one we've had this year, and after a loss, so we'll talk about what you want. We get an extra hour sleep. Election is two and a half days away. Billy, have you voted yet?

I have not. No.

Yeah, I voted today. It was fun. Actually, wasn't that fun? I don't know if fun is the word. Just didn't line for half an hour. Oh fun, I've really pride myself Billy in. You know the way they did this. You walk up and then this woman lets you choose. There are five different individual lines, and I consider it a very important game to pick the line that will go.

The fast the shortest.

Yeah, and if I don't, I'm very upset at myself. So I judge the lines. Today I tried to judge which of the little old ladies behind the counter I thought would go the quickest.

I think you're judging them as you waited in line.

Well, I mean you gotta figure out which line you think it's gonna move the quickest. Let's just say I judge the wrong one. Oh, I think. God, I don't think mine new understood the new technology, so I didn't. I think I came in fifth out of the five at one.

Well, did you get a sticker?

They don't do stickers now. They do these little like paper wristbands that are cheap. I don't like that. I vote against the Jefferson County Clerk most years because they won't get the stickers. The Jefferson County Clerk should have stickers. I didn't know. By the way, why do we vote on four soil and Water commissioners.

Four, there's four of them. I gotta choose from four.

I had to choose four out of six. Of course I didn't know any of them. So how are you supposed to How are you supposed to know who to vote for? For that I consider myself educated? How are you supposed to know the Soil.

And Water commission I guess yard signs, right, But I didn't see.

Any Soil and Water yard signs?

Did you?

I mean, wouldn't? I mean, would you? Even? First of all, it's not partisan, which I don't it shouldn't be, because I don't think water and ground are partisan. But literally, how are you supposed to know? Billy? Who's who?

I don't know? I guess you're supposed to be an informed voter?

Do you want to know what? I did? Just so you know? There were four women and two guys, and I thought, you know what, I feel like, the women are gonna care for our dirt and water more.

Oh you went all women? Okay?

I did what? All women? I was like, you know what, I just feel like the women are gonna do this better this time? Okay, But I have no idea if I'm not two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We're gonna take a break. Take your calls. Kats lose twenty eight eighteen at Tennessee. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game Show. Welcome Back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. Looks like Billy the h The Tennessee fans have have found the link to this, so just be on the lookout for. I mean, generally speaking, you can kind of like feel them when they come through. You know, I can't hate on them for doing that because I like to do that with Tony Basilio.

You do the same thing.

Well, I mean, I don't call his show, but I do like to li had we won tonight, I was definitely gonna put in a good hour of Basilio listen. But like, I don't know about you, I never thought we were gonna win them at any point, did I not think? I mean, you know, some of this is the fact that what in the last forty years we've won twice. I mean, I just I always assume we're gonna lose to Tennessee always, and I always will from now on. I let myself believe it there for a few years, and we did win a couple of times, but I'm not, Billy. I'm just never gonna assume we're going to beat Tennessee.

Yeah, it's the hope that kills you.

It's the hope that is that Ted Lasso.

I don't know that comes.

From something I really like. But that show just keeps getting better every season. I still haven't finished season three yet. I'm on my watch now. But by the way, one thing before we go, when I was in line to.

Vote, okay judging old ladies, Yeah.

No, I mean it was a long line, like it was out the door. So like I was, you know, I was in there for like thirty minutes, and there was this this woman in front of me, and she clearly was wanting to talk to people, and so she was talking to people about who she was going to vote for. So she was like explaining to everybody why she was voting for Trump.

And you know, me, Billy like, oh no, did you did you know?

I wasn't gonna get into it. I like, why am I gonna? Am I gonna be able to convince her? Plus, you're not allowed to electioneer next to the poll. I don't know if you know that you're not allowed to like tell people who vote for.

It's the law, Actually you can't.

I mean, I don't think she knew that, but but plus I'm not going to convince her, so I'm not gonna get into that. But then she just looked at me, and I hadn't said a word, and said what should I do? On Amendment two? That she was asking me for my opinion?

I hope you did an electioneer her.

No, I didn't. I said, wow, I mean you should do what you want. I said, I'm voting no, and she goes, well, that's good enough for me. And she had not spoken to me the whole time. So what do you think that was? That she just wanted someone to tell her Billy what to do.

This is someone little confirmation bias.

Maybe she was so confident about her other votes, but on that one she just like put it up to me. So I don't know if that's technically election engineering. Sounds like she asked me, So was I supposed to ignore, Billy?

You're supposed to not break the law. Mat It sounds like I don't know you're going from polling place, she asked me. She said, what are you gonna do?

What to do? What should I have said, she like, I didn't have a choice. She asked me. She was a little old lady and she seemed nice.

All right, who's up first, Cole?

Cole? What's up? Cole?

What's up?

Guys?

What's going on?

First off, Billy, did you wear your special stocks today?

I got no special socks on today, Cole.

There, that's why we lost.

That's probably the reason is what what socks? Billy? What do you think of the game? Cole?

I don't know.

It's pretty distant.

I was gonna ask, if.

You think that no one got injured, do you think they would have won the night?

No? But I think it would have been I think we I appreciate to call. I think, well, if we'd come into the game fully healthy, I think it would have been a very competitive game. But we weren't fully healthy before it started. And then I think once brought and now granted Whims, it took us down on a great drive. But I think without Brock were just so limited in what we can do. So but the bigger issue for me was was in the secondary. Because Tennessee's quarterback Nico is not I don't think he's all that great. And if you could really put pressure in the secondary and make him make tight throws. I think we would have had a chance to make some plays, but we just didn't. I mean, we were playing we were playing guys in the secondary. We had not played all season at one point during that period of time where a story was out all four starters in the secondary. We're different, guy, We're like, we're not our starters. Story came back. But yeah, but even if we were one hundred percent healthy, and if we had no interest during the game, they're better than we are, and they're on their home field and it's Saturday night, and like, you know, how many times do they lose at home at night? It ain't off. I mean even when they've been bad, they've been good at that And so no, I don't think we would have won again we losing by ten, All things considered, I actually think it was not a bad performance.

Who's next, Jay Witt?

What's up? Hey? What's up?

Matt?

What's going on?

All?

I'm at this point, man, I'm just ready for right State. You know what I'm saying. I'm I'm over fat ball.

I think there's a lot of fans that, yeah, let's let's get the basketball Let's get the Pope trained rolling.

I mean it's it's that dome. You know, there's nothing you know, like, let's get it rolling, Pope try Let's.

Go Pope train, all right. I appreciate the calls say this is I think that says a lot though about kind of where the fan base is. Second call is, let's get the Pope train ready. And by the way, Pope got a commitment today. A kayten lewis number twenty five rank player in America pit Kentucky today over Duke and Yukon. Pretty good. Don't mean that, like I mark Pope is at least on the recruiting trail. I mean he's done everything you could do in the first six months of a tenure and now start Monday, he's just gotta go win games.

Who's next, Tucker?

Tucker? What's up? Tucker?

Hey, Matt?

How you doing?

Bro good?

So honestly echoing the same guy as the same thing last guy said big on the Pope train for the basketball season, but wanted to pose the question for the transfer portal and the quarterback question. I know Brock's been disappointment this season, not not happy with his performance. What do you think would have happened if maybe we got Kyle McCourt instead, Do you think things would have been a little different?

Yeah? Maybe, but I I mean there comes a point though, where is it the player or is it something broader? I mean we've had you know, who are our best quarterbacks in the stoops there? Well, I mean Will it was probably one, But who was number two? Terry or Steven Johnson? So I mean but it probably was like they had the most success. So I don't know. I think Brock is fine. Is he great?

No?

But I think he's fine. But let me ask you a question with that offensive line, like the on the play where he got knocked out, Like what's he supposed to do? I mean, what's he supposed to do? Like I I mean, the dude was in his face and knocks him out, Like what's he supposed to do?

Yeah?

I mean you're right, man, O line is O line is the biggest, the biggest question mark and the biggest problem. I mean, Brock can't can't do too much.

More with that.

But still got asked the question I wondered, I don't.

Think he would. I think cal McCord was. I mean, if we had you got to go back to and I appreciate the call, so that you got to go back to the way it played out, which was you thought Liam Cohen was coming back, and Brock was who Liam wanted for Liam's system, and then he was here and Liam leaves and you end up getting Bush. It's likely the case that Bush would have picked a different quarterback, and it's likely that Brock would have picked a different school. So Liam leaving kind of created a little bit of a mismatch fit. And I don't know what you do about that. I mean Liam left, you know, Liam, I don't really blame Liam, but Liam said to Stoops, I promise you I will stay two years. Then he leaves. Now do I blame him? He got an offensive coordinator job in the NFL and he's having a lot of success. I guess I can't really blame him for that. But it also put him into where they were kind of in a weird situation, and that's how you end up where you are.

You should I mean, you were gonna have Graham Mertz until Liam came in and said he didn't want Graham.

Yeah, but Graham Mertz hasn't been good.

He no, but it'd be different.

It would be different. I'd be interested to see who Bush would have gotten had he gotten a picket, right, Like, I don't know exactly what he looks for in a quarterback. He probably would look for a guy who's a better version of Gavin wims It, but I don't know who that would have been in terms of who was available. So, you know, pretty much everything that could have gone wrong for this group has in some ways, including that. I mean just the timing of that, You're exactly right, the timing of all that, Graham Mertz to to Liam to Brock, you know, Devin Leear, like just all of it was kind of kind of just we were one step behind on all of it. So who's next?

Jordan?

Jordan? What's up? Jordan?

Hey, guys, this is like my third week in ROW, and I'm usually pretty hard on him, and I'm still not a him the fan, but I want to hammer ut fans. Excuse my language.

They could say it on the stadium, but we can't say it on the radio. So just so you know, but go.

Ahead, now, I'm dropping that guy.

Sorry, you dropping the whole thing? Yeah, you dropped.

Him, Yeah I did. He can't say that.

Yeah, but he probably thought you could because they said it in the thing.

No, no, you can't. You can't say that.

All right, Well that was Jordan's just so you know, that was a billy decision.

I mean, that was the final decision. We'll move on.

Wow, that's billy. It's one of eight. That's a harsh decision. I think he probably thought he could say it.

Yeah, there's like seven words you can't say on the radio. You say one, you don't you get you always.

Say there's seven? Is it really seven?

I think that was an old like bit back in the day.

How many are there?

Do you have a list? I mean, there are words that are not on the seven that but.

See, I've never known what they were. I mean I can guess, but I don't think like I think there's probably more than seven.

Oh there is, Yeah, there is. But there was an old bit of seven dirty words in the English language you couldn't say.

So you're saying that's one of them, you can't.

Say that's definitely one.

Yeah, okay, Well I think I would like to have heard his point. Until you've been so angry to him, but I would say that that was a completely inappropriate and again, like that dude, was hurt when they said that. All three of the guys that they booed at were hurt. Now, I know Childrens came back in, but if you go back like you go back and those guys, those fans don't know Childress, but he's not a dude who would do that. And the other two guys were hurt. One of them didn't come back in, so you know, I don't know's it was. It was mostly their students, like students are students. But Tennessee fans are a special kind of obnoxious. They just are. I mean, they just are. And I think they pride themselves in it. I don't think I'm saying something they disagree with. They like it. They the sort of they love being rude and they've played it out on the on the stage tonight.

Who's next, Sean, Sean, what's up?

Sean?

Hey, Matt. I've had season tickets for thirty two years and then I was in college for five, So I've watched the UK football live for thirty seven years, and most of the time you know what you've got, and a lot of times those were really bad teams and all. But this year it's just, you know, we go toe to toe with the top ten teams and then the other ones, and it's just you know, and earlier you were saying more I think on coaching is like, you know, where do we go from here? And it's like, it's not like when we were at the end of the Curry era, the Joker era or the those We're not that bad. You know, We've got a we can produce a good product. We just you know, it's just one of the more frustrating years out of all of those because again, not knowing what you're going to get day to day with them from you know, some really good stuff to some really bad stuff. And it's just been a it's been a just a hard to describe season.

Well, you're right about I mean, think about this. What We've played three teams in the top eight, okay, and we let it halftime in every game. And then we've played three teams that have combined for like four sec wins and we lost to all of them, two of them at home. Like that's frustrating. It's frustrating. It's frustrating to go to half against Georgia, Old Miss and Tennessee ahead and then to go lose to Auburn Florida Vandy and get blown out by South Carolina. You're right, I mean that is that is an oddly different kind of frustrating because it's not like the teams you and I remember years ago where we were just never in.

It right and you know, you know, there's been a lot of times we've gone to Knoxville and you know, the game was over in five minutes kind of thing where yes, you know, that didn't happen tonight. They played hard, and you know, for what they had, it was a you know, they did they showed up, which you know a lot of people didn't think they would, and.

They definitely showed up tonight. I mean, I do think they show like that's partially why tonight, doesn't, you know. I mean, I'm kind of getting destroyed online for saying I wasn't upset like tonight is not the issue to me, Like, I mean, they made mistakes, the whims that interception is a bad interception. That's a really bad interception, and then the offensive line play is what it is. But I actually think they played pretty well tonight. My problem is the rest of the year.

Oh yeah, absolutely, But one last thing, but in two weeks, drive an eight hour round trip and go watch display Murray State. But the watching so much UK football. The Tennessee fans are the most classless of every conference team. Uh they are by far the bottom from as far as class from a fan base.

Yeah, well, appreciate it. I don't disagree with you from that. I mean you don't look they're great Tennessee fans too. I mean it's not all of them. It's just I think every fan base has got bad people, like bad actors in it. I just think theirs go worse than everybody else. That's the way I would put it. One person writes, Billy is getting big for his breeches. Does he think he just gets to decide who drops the calls?

Well, yes, because I dropped the calls and run the show. Yeah all right, so literally.

By definition you get to do it. Yeah right, Okay. You think they're right though, that you're getting a little big for.

Your probably Yeah.

Well, it's late at night. You you know, I can tell you you hit a salty point. It usually happens about one o seven am. That's when I think that that's when I think you get tired and you start to get salty.

Most of the time, I've tried to be more optimistic and positive on these shows.

We're good because we're gonna have some but we don't have a lot of nine o'clock games this year though. In basketball, I think I saw only one conference game is nine o'clock.

That's good.

Only I think we play Oklahoma nine. Yeah, the Champions Classic is gonna be really really late.

What's next, Let's go to Lance Lance.

What's up? Lance?

Yeah, Matt, I don't think it really would have made a difference at night, but I can't be the only one who has noticed that their defensive line they never seem ready for the snap when a team plays up tempo.

Ever, yeah, they don't. I think part of it is so I think the reason teams do that against this is a it works. But me also because our guys get our big guys get really tight on the defensive line. We've got we got some really good defensive linemen, but I wouldn't say they're all in the best shape, and I wouldn't say they all every play give one hundred energy. So I think when they get us on two or three snaps in a row, I think you're right, You'll you'll see something. You'll see one or two of our defensive linemen just kind of stand there, and I think you're I think that's I think that's you know, clearly coaches have seen that on tape, and so that's intentional.

Absolutely.

It seems like they never get down in the stance when he goes up tempo, they're just standing there waiting for the just waiting around, and nobody gets down the stance. And other than that, let's go Mark Pope.

That's all I got to say.

All Right, I appreciate him. Hey, if I'm nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven, you know, yeah, Dean Walker. I watched some of those plays peel. He gets like three or four guys on him. Now he also takes plays off like you can just see it. But he also it's amazing how many dudes they put the other team puts on him to try to stop me.

Yeah, you think he's gonna be successful at the next level.

I think he's cost himself. I think there are gonna be real questions about his effort level, which has probably cost him some spots in the draft. But I think if if a team gets him in, I mean, he's a beast like so he's a beast, and in the NFL they won't I mean in the NFL, like, if he doesn't play, they'll just sit him, right, So I mean, yeah, So my answer that is, yes, I think he'll be good. I think it's gonna be. I think when he is focused in playing, he's as dominant as anybody I've seen at Kentucky at that position. I think he takes a lot of plays off and I think that's gonna be and I think it's gonna cost him draft slot, but he's gonna be a first round pick because there's just too much talent. I mean, they just don't make dudes like that, you know, I mean, I don't know if you remember, there's a couple of plays they put him on the end and he got to the quarterback. He was playing on the end a dude that size and he got to the quarterback. That's why he's gonna get drafted, because you just don't see dudes who can do that. Let's do one more and we'll take a break. Who's Nate, Nate? What's up? Nate?

Yeah?

Man, I don't think one way would have made me happy other than a w Like if we lost by seven, or one lost by fifty. I was completely over the season anyway onto Pope, but you know, now we can start sort of taking him my off season. And there's two questions I want to ask you. One is, hey, next week, do you do you prepare Cutter and see what you got for the next year?

And then, uh, I think they'll I think they'll play Cutter some against Murray. Yeah, I mean I don't think you start him, But it depends on It depends on what Brock's hell's like too. Like if you're if you think Brock is hurt but could come back, then I think you play whims it and cut her. If you think he's out for the year, obviously you have to play whims it and cut her. If you think like he's one hundred percent, then you play him. It just depends, but I would bet you they will play Cutter some against Murray. Murray's bad. I mean Murray's like really bad, Like Murray's like win one game in D two bad.

Yeah.

I hope so, because I have a feeling he's gonna be the only Q on the roster going next year. And then the next question I would be, this is just directly to you you know, I kind of thought about it a lot, and regardless of transfers, there's.

Gonna be a giant turnover next year.

Half the offense, half the defense graduating. Do you that that includes three of our starters off of an already poor offensive line.

Yeah.

Do you see Stoops having the energy to go and try to get twenty million dollars?

That's a great question. Yeah, that's a great question. Right. So here's there's two completely different scenarios. If Mark Stoops is not the coach, then I have no idea who's gonna roster's gonna be right, Like just throwing up in the air. Who knows if he is the coach. I think Brock is back, probably with Cutter. There's still a chance that might not be the case, but I think it probably is. I think Dane are probably gone. I think they go with young receivers, try to find warners because they got some good freshmen on there, one or two in the portal. I think you spend most of your uh nile money on the offensive line. I think they basically go and try to get an all new offensive line, which may not work, but that's what they're gonna They don't have a choice. They don't. They just don't have a choice. On defense, they've got a lot of young guys that can play. You're right, they're gonna lose a lot of dudes. But think about it, like this is the caller still there, hung up. Okay, So we had a bunch of older guys out tonight and the defense still played pretty well. I think there's gonna be some guys that, you know, it's gonna be sad to see him go because they've been here a long time. Like JJ, we haven't had Maxwell Harrison most of the year, but we got young guys who can play at some of those positions. But I mean, they're gonna they are gonna have to spend their money on the big dudes up front. On offensive defense, you're gonna lose Dean Walker, You're gonna lose uh Tripka and those guys. So you're gonna have to replace your offensive line, your defensive line, and that's gotta be what they have to do. And that's hard and will Mark Stoops want to do it, I don't know. That's part of why it's a rebuild coming this year anyway, and it's probably like a two year plan to get good again, And does he want to do that? I don't know.

You think Dane leaves?

I mean I don't know. I mean, what would you stay? I mean, let's say you're Dan Key. Let's be honest. I mean he's from Lexington, so that's a different And this, by the way, is with no inside knowledge. It's just me talking. But your dain Key, You've had a great year. You're now the fifth all time leading receiver in UK history, which was kind of an amazing stat to see to night. You probably are not a top three round draft pick, but you probably have that talent. Are you coming back or are you gonna go play for a team that can win a national championship.

I mean if I might get offered eight hundred thousand dollars somewhere, then yeah, maybe have to leave.

But let's just say that money is the same, because I bet the money would be the same. I bet whatever he would get somewhere else he could get here. Would you want to go play at Alabama or Georgia or something like that.

I wouldn't want to be in this passing attack again.

I mean I think that's the problem. The problem to me is less nil it it's that does this system showcase his ability the way you would hope same with Barryon, Like does this system and I don't know that you can say for sure that it does. So height fi Ive'm nine eight twenty two eighty seven. We will take a break and we'll be right back. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. Walk back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. So people say the seven words that comes from George Carlin Billy, and I think there's a lot more than seven.

Oh yeah, we had to expand that list.

We think there's like twenty.

One oddly specific number, but well.

Three times seven, Like, I bet there's a lot that you can't say. One person writes, I think Billy sounds arrogant tonight, thinking he can just cut people off. You think about that.

Literally my job again, this is my job. Make sure my heart does not get fine.

What person writes, Billy always seems to think he knows everything, So tell him to ask him this. Who is going to win the presidential election? Okay, Billy, there you go. If you know everything, who's gonna win Tuesday? Tell everybody?

Well, one, I clearly don't. As we've learned in UK sports trivia.

Think Reggie Hansen integrated the UK.

Basketball and I also stay out of politics.

So we make a prediction. You're not saying what you want to happen. You can just say what you think is gonna happen.

I think it's gonna be a real close race. I mean people are going to the polls and they still have no idea who they're gonna vote for.

So you think they go and don't know.

Yeah, they just get you know, racketeered by.

Next to me. You're gonna do one of those Mike francessa. They win some races, they lose some races. They've been up, they've been down. One of those things.

Kind of like that lady that was looking for some who to vote for on Amendment to I'm just gonna look around and say, yeah, who should vote for?

Yeah, I don't know what's gonna happen. I haven't. I have a guess, but I'll save it for uh, for Tuesday morning. We'll see. But you need to go vote, Billy, don't not vote.

Oh I will, I will my duty?

That does Who's next?

Cam?

Cam, go ahead, cam?

What's up?

Guys?

How are we doing tonight.

Well, what's going on?

You got it? Manh I think Dion this is super random. I think he's who we wanted matt Elam to become.

Am I right, ah, No, I remember matt elm. But you're saying Dion's what we had hoped. That's probably what they hoped. But Dion's a freaking athlete. I mean, I know he's not like his you. I don't know that we'll ever see it like that. Dude is a special athlete, and when you stand next to him, you really see it. He is.

For sure. That was random. But I think the frustration with your tweet, man, is because you're right, it wasn't really more so this game, the guys brought it. I don't think anybody brought it. I thought it was super weird. When the commentators were saying that they were feeling like lowness from the coaches this week, I think that's you know, I think that says a lot, though, because I see it in Stups'm pretty sure everybody sees it and hears it, I think.

But they didn't play like a team though. They didn't play like a team that hadled it. They didn't anything. I mean, you know, the announcers were acting like he thought the staff had done that, but they didn't play like that. I mean, I thought they played I thought they played hard. I thought, you know, they didn't play perfect or even great at times, but I thought they played hard.

No, but like his halftime, like his expressions now all season have just been no. Yeah, he seems kind of emotionless.

He has not been the fiery, the fiery person that. So a guy sent me a video of me interviewing Cal in twenty twelve, and it was interesting to listen because Cal his voice, he sounded like a different person in twenty twelve than he sounds like now. I think.

So.

Then I went back and listened to a Stoops interview in like twenty sixteen, and he sounded different too. It was just like a different energy. And I agree with you, Stoops doesn't sound the same in terms of just I'm not saying he doesn't have that fire, but he doesn't sound like it.

Yeah, he doesn't look healthy, man. And what do you think about Hamden saying they wait too late to feed Wilcox. I'm pretty sure everybody who's been watching the team this year could have called that.

I didn't see that he say that. He said that in the postgame comedy he did.

He said they weighed about two games too late to start feeding Wilcox.

Well, I mean it's that's his choice, though, isn't it. I mean, I I.

Mean, the man was averaging eight yards of carry from from like the third game on.

So well, I mean he's I think he's writing about that. I appreciate the call, but I mean, isn't Bush is the one that decides, doesn't he? So? I mean, I'm glad he saw that, but maybe we should have seen it a couple of games earlier. You know, I don't know. I felt like all year when I hear Mark talk. I guess I haven't really heard Bush talk a lot, but when I've heard Mark, it felt it's always felt like to me, he doesn't really know what he wants to do, Like he doesn't have answers. And you know, I feel like the thing about Marcus, He's always honest, and if he if he thinks he doesn't have answers, Billy, I guess he doesn't, you know what I mean?

I mean that's yeah, I'm probably extremely frustrated. I can't say what he really.

Wants to see we're all kind of frustrated. It'd be interesting to hear if they could hear what they really thought, what they would say. What's next, Mitch, Mitch? How are you, Mitch.

Yo? Doing all right?

What's going on? Telly?

I was at the very first Stoops game in Nashville and got our asses kicked by Bobby Pue. I just hope we hope we hold it on the rope.

I hope you don't want it to end full you don't want to end full circle.

Yeah, I mean that's the question. I hope that this team just continues to be tough. I mean that's what this entire programs were built on. And I know it sucks.

This year sucks. This just sucks.

There's no good, no way getting around.

But you know, if you think back to that team you saw in Nashville, you think back to that team you saw in Nashville. You know that team had like almost no talent, right, I mean I think the maybe was it was Avery Williamson on it, like they had like one or two good he was. I think like it was like Avery Williamson and you know the quarterback was Jalen Whitlow. I mean like they just didn't have They really didn't have any talent, but they played really hard and they lost those games. I think what's frustrating is if you were to look at the talent level of this team versus that team, it would be night and day. And yet we may finish this year with three wins or four, you know, and and they I mean, we could finish it with three and ye you know, or well, actually that's not true. We could finish it before before You're right, four, We could finish shit with full and so twice as many wins, but ten times as much talent.

Right, I mean, that's what that was really is really frustrating to me as a fan. I don't really need you to win ten wins a year.

Just be tough.

Yeah, and don't get embarrassed, old drone, you know what I'm saying.

Yeah, I'm with you. Schedule and you know the schedule like this year. I appreciate the call. I mean, if you had just done what you're supposed to do, the year you could have had when you consider how well we've done against the good teams, it's just I mean, old Miss, there's a really good chance the old Miss will not make the playoff because we beat them and that will be our only SEC win. Why that's really frustrating. We are going to keep a team out of the playoffs and yeah, that's going to be our only conference with We'll do one more, We'll take the file break. Who's next? Greg?

You k?

Greg? Go ahead?

Here's thinking that's frustrating. I bet Old Miss is more frustrated, but.

They would be the ones much more frustrated. That's right.

So uh, going back to Dane man, I'm a huge Dane fan. I love number six. I do not want to see him leave. And if he did leave, I got a feeling it would be to Columbia, South Carolina And did you see what they did today?

So it's like, please don't don't go there. But that's that's not why I'm calling.

Here's here's my thing is and I'm a big Brock fan.

I'm from Owensborough, so I love Gavin. I want to tell Brock, dude, you don't have an O line. You haven't had an O line all year.

He got blue up and I hope he's okay, but at what point does he realize he don't have an O line that he needs to do something different because I I see something different with Gavin. He's not getting blown up as much as Brock.

Yeah, I think you're right. I think you're right. Now the play that got Brock hurt, I'm not sure what else he could have done. I mean, like that guy was in his fast within a second. But in general, I agree with you. I think he holds on too long, holds onto the ball too long. I felt like there was a period in this game where he kind of was scared to throw, like he wouldn't just let it go and then he would end up getting sacked or But the thing is, the kid is tough man. He'll run and get ten or twelve yards on a scramble. But you're right. I mean I sometimes wonder if Bush also calls plays for how bad our line is. I mean, we don't have time for a lot of this stuff to develop that we call.

Yeah, agree, you're right, you're right.

Gavin doesn't get blown up as much, which is in which I hadn't really thought about that. But you're right, he doesn't. And Brock, does you know that the game changed with the hit that knocked him out? Both knocked him o out, we fumbled the ball. It was third and one took us out of Yeah, I mean that was that was the game change right there. If I'm nine two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven, we will take a break, come back, take your final calls as usual. You guys still call. It doesn't matter even after a bad loss in the middle of the night. Best fan base in sports will be right back. It's the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame Show running back. Final segment is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame Show. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, Uh, you know, I'm trying to put Billy on the spot. I just saw the betting nods have now gone to fifty to fifty, sixty four to thirty six Trump on Thursday, fifty to fifty.

It's close.

I always thought there was good money there on the Harris thing, just sixty four to thirty. But this has been todd forever. Why was it sixty four to thirty six Now it's fifty to fifty, So who knows. But Billy will not take a stand, even though he will hang up on people who just quote the Tennessee.

It's my job.

All they do is just all they do is just quote the Tennessee crowd and you go and hang up on them.

And they and you know, Rocky Top's the worst. But they play that old, slowed down female voice in the stadium. I don't know if you hear it through the TV, it's just.

Singing Rocky time.

It's yeah, it's the woman.

It's not a female voice though. Those are Are you talking about the old timey version? That's those are? Those are guys.

There's a grainy version they play in the stadium. That's the Osbourne bro every other down here, you pull up.

I don't want to no, the they're gonna you're gonna think the Osbourne Brothers are women, but they're not. Play find the Osbourne's version and you tell me if you think that is a woman, because it's not. Those are guys.

Okay, I'll do my research here. Okay, Well we take a call or two.

All right, If I'm nine two, eight oh twenty two, what's the big NFL game? You know I got to do an NFL show here in nine hours? So what's what are the games tomorrow?

Well, Monday night's the big one in my world.

Ducks. Yeah, yeah, but we don't really talk a lot about the Monday night. What's the four to twenty five game lines? Packers?

Okay, that's a good one.

Yeah, looking at this, these are bad slight. Tomorrow is gonna be a tough, tough go of it for.

Me, maybe a little bit more.

Preparedst Ravens, Okay, yeah, I mean I'm looking right now. That's something, isn't it?

Yea.

Colts Vikings, Colts Vikings.

All right, yeah, Joe Flackoh, okay, who's hammer? Hammer? How are you hammer?

What's going on? What's going on? Phil's a bad night?

Yeah it is.

I mean it's it's been a bad night. Guess. But Mayett they killed me because I love Mark Stoops Yeah, and I love what he's done with this program, but this offensive line, like, oh my goodness, how do you revert back to what ruined your offensive line?

Like it's I think it's like a three year I think it's like a three year process because if you go look at the guys that he we've had success with on the offensive line, they've all been guys come up through the program. A lot of them been from Kentucky or from the Ohio Michigan area that Vince recruits that's where we had had our success. And then I don't know. I mean, Freddie used to say he didn't think the coaches developed the young guys. But you know, you look at you look at what we have now, we've got a couple of those guys with Eli and Jagger. But then we brought these transfers in. I think you have to say the transfers really haven't worked. And then, you know, I mean we talked about, well, what about the young guys, but we're having to play a young guy and he's really struggling right now, and so I don't know.

I agree, I agree, and you know, hey, let them guys, let's get a couple of years in the white ring. Let's make them all arms goat from the slaby arms players with some bolt. But you reverted back to the guy that killed our offensive line. Let's just admit that slarman, God risk his soul. That was our last winning Knoxville. Yeah, we have not been the same since. We have not been the same thing.

No, we haven't. We have not been. It's not been the same since he passed. I think that's fair to say.

And you know, and that's what Stukes built his resume. Let's be tough upfront offenses line, defensive line, let's be tough, and offensive line has just not been there.

Well, think about this, Think about this stat. This is an amazing stat to me, Hammer, and I think it says a lot about the success we had and the problem we have now. In my lifetime, starting in nineteen seventy eight until two thy sixteen, do you know how many offensive linemen from nineteen seventy eight to twenty sixteen we had drafted in the first fours of the NFL drafted?

Do you know, I would say easily in or list.

We had four, all right, four in thirty eight years. From twenty sixteen till twenty twenty one, we had five. So we had five guys drafted in five years after having four in thirty eight. And I can tell you we ain't gonna have any drafted on the team right now. So I think that difference. I think that difference from having five guys in FI I mean, we had five top four round draft picks in five years. To go from that to what we have, I think is what you're seeing. The difference is in the in our play.

Yeah, and I agree with that. You know, and I just like, you know, to get back to what got you here and what made you successful. Litt reinvest in that offensive line. Let's get tough again, because I mean, if we put Winsen in and then yours, that we had to run Lynn Bowden after a quarterback. I think we all agree Wensday is a better quarterback than Lynn Bowden was. But it's the same running talent. But when you got a better offensive line in front of.

That, Yeah, but yeah, you're right. Lynn had a much better offensive line and he was faster, which helped to I appreciate the call. All right, So did you find the recording? Is this the one year talking it is?

Yeah? It's them, all.

Right, So so play it real quick, just not it's just a second of it. I mean, they beat us, so we can play it. So you thought that was a woman, Yes, it's not. Those are guys. And let me go further. They're from Leslie County.

Condition I knew that. I knew that, But you thought that was a woman. They slow it down in the stadium and it's just the vocals.

And yeah, and do you want to apologize to the family of the Osborne brothers?

No, no, I don't think you know? Okay, all right, Well, after they beat us, Jeff.

Drummond just wrote me and texted me and said he thought it was a woman too, and he knows the Osborne brothers, but he said the recording is slower and a cappella in the stadius.

Okay, good, yes it is, Yeah, it's you can't hear.

That on TV. I don't think. Uh, let's do three more and we'll call it a night. Who's next?

Okay, Joe, Joe?

Go ahead, Joe, hey man, how are you doing tonight? Good? What's up?

I was is there any talk around the program this year, because if there was, I even't heard it that Bush and Stoops want Brock to be under center more often, but that he doesn't feel comfortable doing so. Because I've listened to the national radio broadcast night they were talking a lot about it, and honestly in some weird ways at times.

How did you know? First of all, that's my guy ian coach that did the game? What did what did?

What?

Did? They say? You know?

At one point? And trust me, it was odd. They talked about it on and off over for like fifteen minutes, but they essentially said they made it sound as if, without saying Stoops or Bush flat out said this isn't the quarterback we would ideally have. They made it sound as if those guys are frustrated that they would like to run more Rock has never been under center and doesn't like being under center. And then in the conversation they made it sound less like it's just because he's never done it, but more because and they were kind of trying not to work blue or be crude, but essentially they were kind of laughing and joking that it sounds like Brock doesn't want to put his hands up against the center's butt and like, which is obviously a part of the job. Really they we was saying like at one point he said I and like there were two different parts of it that were funny. One he almost made it sound like they were Stoop's therapist, because at one point they joked that whichever coach you're talking to, I'm guessing it was Stoops went on some long rambling thing about the hands under the butt and I don't know how we can relay this story to you on the air without that's interesting.

Well, so all right, so I didn't hear it, obviously, Ian fitz Simmons, who dead the game. He is very close with the Stoops family. So my assumption would be that they talked to Stoops. I have gotten the sense, and again this is I'm not saying this is true. This is just the sense I've gotten that maybe Stoops and Bush feel like Brock that is not the kind of quarterback that is best for what they're doing. Okay, that's just a sense I've gotten. I've gotten the sense that that's people seem to sort of have sort of seemed to think online that there's a divide between Bush and Stoops. I haven't gotten that since. I've kind of gotten the sense that they just are like, we have this personnel that was for this other coordinator and that's not what I do. And that sounds kind of what you're saying that they were hinting at on the national broadcast.

No, it was odd.

And then guy, I may ask and then see what see if I can get some insight before before Friday. So I appreciate to call. I don't know, maybe it is Billy. Maybe they're saying doesn't want to touch the butt. I don't know. I feel like you have to touch. But if you're going to do the quarterback job.

Right unless you're in shotgun the entire time.

Yeah, I didn't think that would be the conversation tonight, but there you go.

You never know what a ridiculous is the truth.

Surprised Billy didn't drop it the way he's been acting tonight.

Who's now? I don't know if this is coach, but Ian's on the line.

What's up, coach?

No, not not not coaching. Joe's got Joe's got me really flustered with the under center thing.

I got n have to ask tomorrow what he's talking about. But go ahead.

Okay, So I got a lot of things I want to say, but I'm going to narrow it down to two. And please, I know you're gonna want You're gonna say something after the first one, but let me get my second one in because I all right, Okay, here we go. So the first thing is, I'm the same age as you, and the reason that you and I both love Mark Soops is that he brought a passion and a fire to this program that did not exist in our lifetime. He is that underdog who wants to punch people in the mouth who are better than him, who are bigger than him. Who are you know the programs that are supposed to be better than us, right? And he has always prided himself and made sure that we are ready for a game like this. And it doesn't matter what year it is, doesn't matter if it's year one.

I got that one. What's your second one? Okay?

So the second one is the problem is is that we still have things like whatever just came up halfway through the show that that Billy verified that Stoop said, or that that him, that the bush said that we should were two games late in Willcox and that The fact is is that whenever something happens like a guy can't tie his shoes on right, Mark will shut it down. And even though it's the best thing for the program, and it's really crazy, it's really frustrating, but Mark is the guy who will always punch up every single time. And that's why I love him so much. There's a nobody gave him any there's nothing about tonight that anybody had any input, any like look forward to. And he came in and he punched him in the mouth for a two and a half quarters and you're almost got it done. And that's enough for people like us who have never had anything.

Yeah, listen, I think there is a huge divide, and I appreciate the call. It's it's fascinating to me, and it's worth a conversation at some point, and I'm sure we'll have it as we get to the end of the season. There is definitely a divide in the fan base by age, in the same way that there was with Cal. It's odd though, because the two sides almost take the exact opposite view. With Cal, you could the young the younger fans did not want him criticized. The older fans were very critical. Now it's almost flipped. The older fans give Stoops a little more leeway, the younger fans say get out of here. And it's all based on the expectation of what things were like when we were yet when we you know, they always say, Billy that everybody thinks music and Saturday Night Live was the best when they were in high school and college. Right, Yeah, whatever it was when you were in high school and college, that's what the best was. So for me, nineties music and the Adam Sandler Chris Farley era that's the best, all right. Other people that are older than me will say Chevy Chase and you two right, you would probably say, I don't know what music was popular when you were in college.

I mean there was a lot.

All right, you're really helping my conversation. But the point is the point, And I think the same thing is true with fandom, Like we sort of develop our fandom based on how it was when we really got serious about it, which is like high school, middle school, et cetera. So I'm used to Kentucky football sucking and Kentucky back basketball being great, and so my standard is what it is with Stoops. For me, I end up giving him more leeway than a lot of younger fans because I remember when we played this game, it was the last game every year, and I just hope we'd stay within forty that's truth. But he has reset the expectations for Kentucky football to now it's different. But to me, whatever your expectation level is, this season has stunk. I don't care if it's my old expectations or the younger fans new expectations. This season has been a failure. So the question is what do you do going from here? And we'll have to see. I think the Louisville game is gonna be huge because Louisville's playing better now. They beat Clemson to night. If they pound us in that final game in our stadium, I don't know. We'll see though. First we got to see if anybody will show up to Murray State in two weeks.

Oh boy, let's do one more.

Who's next?

Michael gotta be quick?

Michael finished? Why does it have to be quick? All right? All quick? All right?

So I've been a Supers fan since he was a Florida State.

And going forward it's terrible.

I mean, I'm a season I'm a season ticket holder. But what are we going to do going forward?

I don't know. I think we've got to see how it ends, because if it ends terribly, then I think we're gonna have a different result. If it ends with a win against Louisville, then that's a different result. And if it ends in the middle where we play a little a close but lose, then I don't know. I appreciate the call. The thing about the cal Era, it ended definitively when he walked off the court at Oakland, we kind of all knew this can't continue. I don't think it's like that with Stoops yet, but we're gonna see that the next three weeks or lot, and we're gonna have to see what the off season looks like. We're gonna have to see what the roster turnover looks like. So there's a lot still to be determined. Billy, the clock is about to change. Billy says, if when the clock changes, if we're still on the air, we all explode. And I don't want that to happen, So we're gonna let it go now, everybody, enjoy your evening. We'll be back at the bar all week. And then of course Kentucky and Wright State Monday. Remember the women play at five on Monday, the men play at seven, So both new coaches start their new eras on Monday. Should be exciting. We lose to Tennessee. Unfortunately, I'm used to that. Twenty eight to eighteen. See y'all later. This has been the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgam Show.
