This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

Welcome everyone.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio, Thursday November fourteenth. I am Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill on a rainy, kind of nasty Thursday, but one that should be a lot of fun. You give shallnon Clarks Puppet Shop fauld line eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven A Vision Auto glass text machine seven seven two four five two five four. This disition sponsored by the t J Smith Lofics. You called Tj'll make them pay. Ryan and Drew her here. Drew you have a special shirt on Well Ryan does too. But a little different, different reasons. You have the shirt I think a lot of people may not even know existed, which was the one. This shirt for the twenty twelve National championship team. It has caricatures of the six major players on that team, and you're wearing it in honor of the fact that Deron Lamb and Marcus Tige will.

Be in the building today.

This is an original twenty twelve one. This Mario asked them the other day if I've heard of one. It's come on, Mario, I've ground floor one. This fanom here, this is our era.

This is my era.

You all hear me talk about Deron Lamb all the time, Tig, the whole group, not just because they won a title, but there was just a lot of fun around that team.

Is like, is Deron one of your two or three favorite players? Is it?

What?

Doris? Don't make it awkward?

He's not.

It seems it's just that when people talk about that era so much, he's not as set as often as the others. When he had seventeen points in the why.

Is that awkward? Like you like, you could well top three.

I just want to make sure history does not forget him. I mean Nick Richards number one.

Who are your top three?

If you're just talking like who's put me on the spot a little bit, here's the best.

But just like Richards, you know.

Some of them. I knew little more than others. Nick Richards, DeMarcus DeMarcus and Nick Richards are certainly in the top three.

I thought he'd say, I want to guess I would have forgotten about Nick Richards. But now that you say that, I would have picked your three as being Nick Richards, DeMarcus and the occasion.

But it's more of just I don't want the world to forget what Doron Lamb did at Kentucky. Yeah, so I emphasize him anytime that RAS talked about.

Who's your top three? Ryan, just again, just favorite just as as as players or not necessarily people, because like again, then it gets to who you know personally.

Just as players.

I think Walter McCarty's definitely number one. That covered him in high school, so he would be my number one guy. I would say number two would probably be Chuck Hayes. Okay, yeah, those number three maybe Anthony IPPs, Cameron Mills, one of old guys, all.

Right, I like that. So that so that's kind of your prime. That was when you were and your were.

Talking about as a fan who I am as a fan. I like a lot of those guys.

So for me, I mean, DeMarcus has to be one of them. I just I loved DeMarcus. I love just his personality, and then watching him play, oh, you know a lot of the rest, I would say, again, what's weird is I know DeMarcus These other two too.

I'm gonna say, I don't really know them.

At all, but you were a fan of them.

I think I liked the Harrison Twins a lot. I just really wanted them. I felt like they were going through a lot and I thought they were underrated, and then they just kept winning and and.

I don't know those guys really at all.

And then honestly, the third one, I don't really know him much at all, either, but I Antonio Reeves last year it's just a huge I just liked that he was a senior or got better. I didn't feel like he played enough early. On a personal level, it'd be like woo, yes, Ramel Patrick Patterson. But that's I mean, if I'm just doing strictly player, that would be it.

List He keeps hitting all these threes.

I even pointed at myself on the Ansley Almonor three.

I didn't even get the cruction on my list. Yeah, Walter McCarty, Chuck Hay's Kyle Macy. I forgot about Kyle Macy.

Oh yeah, because you were from Indiana.

I was gonna be just like him.

Yeah.

Well, you know every time you say that it's a different person, you were going to be just like because sometimes it was the guy in Indiana David.

Bailey, Yes, Steve Alford. Yeah, well, uh, they're gonna be here.

Uh.

Last night, de n Uh called me when I was at dinner and I was like, hey, man, you know you can't cut. You know, like you can't cut, and he goes, oh, man, I got that, and then he like cussed in that ship and I was like all right, so I got like, no, but I mean, you can't cuss. And he was like, all right, Well, what are you gonna ask me? And I said, oh, I mean, we'll promote your podcast. I just want to talk about.

You know, stories when you were uh, when you were.

At Kentucky, you know, just just just fun, fun stuff. And he was like okay, and then he goes, what time do you get up? And I said, I don't know, like a few minutes before nine maybe, and he was like, well, i'll call you in the morning.

And I was like, what, Well, we're on the phone right.

Now, like let's you know. But I think he's very excited to be here. He and Marks by Way are driving from Indianapolis to do really yeah, because so so if you come out to case Bar, you can meet him say hello. But they didn't. I don't think he knew the last night we were gonna be at a restaurant. He thought we were gonna be in a studio. So I was like, it'd be good. I'll get you all lunch after if you want it, and so we left. You promoted it.

I got to thinking, I don't think think these guys have been on the radio show before, have they?

I don't. I don't think Marcus ever was. I feel like I.

Feel like we had Doran after the season, maybe, but but I mean, I know we had Anthony and Michael Gilchrist and we had Darius that year. I kind of think we had Dern. I think I remember, for whatever reason, I couldn't get Tigue.

I agree with you, Tig has definitely not been on, But I don't remember even LAMB being on before. And that was right about the time when all the seniors or the guys that were leaving would come in and sit down with us every time every year.

That changed after a while. Well, all right, So I don't know about you all.

After a big win or after something possitive happens, I'm always kind of like I got to hear what everybody has to say. You know, this is what I used to do all the time. I used to after Kentucky wins. Okay, let's read was ESPNSA, What does CBSA? What?

What is all this? You know?

I kind of got away from that in the last few years for a couple of reasons. One we didn't win as much. But number two, the national guys kind of all hate cal Perry and have really from the beginning. So it was like they didn't write or say nice things usually. So it was just I just got out of the habit of doing that, you know what I mean, I got out of habit of reading what other people said. But yesterday I didn't have a lot to do in the afternoon. In the afternoon after my class thing, and so I was like, you know, I gotta I want to hear some of this. So I listened to a number of college basketball podcast I listened to The Barstool one, the CBS one, The Field of sixty eight one, and Universal in praise for Pope. It's clear these guys really like Mark Pope. The years we've had of Kentucky sort of getting what we felt like was unfair press, I think that's going away because these dudes, Drew, don't you think they really seem to like Mark just as a person.

It might be the other way where we might read stuff like Wow, they're really pumping up Kentucky.

I think they are, and listen. The other thing is we are traffic for college basketball.

I mean, I ask ask anyone that covers college basketball. There are only two things you can write about that are guaranteed to get traffic Kentucky and Dukes. So when they play each other, it's it's, you know, from a lot of them, it's gonna be their biggest, their biggest reading day until like February and I.

Get an email nearly every day of a website we wrote this blurb any chance ks off all the direct people daily, one of them all the time.

I get those all the time. Will you will you link this? Will you link that? So so I listen to all of them. First of all, Field of sixty eight. If I'm gonna give you a little like podcasty thing, Field of sixty eight, if you're a hardcore college basketball fan, you should be listening to that. They go live every night on YouTube and social media talking about the games of the day and if you like it or you want to listen the next day if you love college basketball, not just Kentucky but all the um, definitely I'll listen to that. CBS with Matt Orlander and Gary Parrish little bit less detail oriented. They focus on kind of top programs. They did fifteen or twenty minutes yesterday on Kentucky and then the Barstool one's more Goofy, but they still talk and and they're all worth listening to. But on the CBS one yesterday they actually talked Ryan about this show did he and that? And Gary Parrish and Matt Orlander basically said that they thought the win that Kentucky got Overduke was kind of like also for validation for the fans, and they also sort of said for this show that like that. Now, these are outsiders, and at times I haven't even gotten along with Gary Parish.

They've always been friends with Matt Nororlander. I get along with both of them now.

But they both were like cal had alienated the fan base and the local media and that's now gone. And they actually talked about that a little bit, and I thought, man, how do you guys all know this when?

But they were then on about everything they had said. Yeah.

I think a lot of fans don't necessarily agree a lot with what Norlander or Perish has to say. But if they're outsiders looking in that know the game and know the ins and outs of the coaching guys, So for them to step back and say something like that, I think it holds a lot of value.

But then I decided to watch so I went and saw PTI. I don't watch PTI anymore. You have to understand, I mean for people like Tony Kornheiser is my I mean Tony Kornheiser, David Letterman and Larry David Like, those are the three people that I consider, personality wise to be the most on my mind. They're all old now, which is probably which probably not a good sign.

But I see that PTI is going to talk about Kentucky Duke.

Okay, so I think, Drew, I gotta watch this, right, But I'm out in public and it's on and I can't hear the sound. So I quickly pull it up on my phone live to watch it because I want to see what do they say about Duke Kentucky.

And I have to tell you, Drew, it made me sad.

I don't know if you've all ever had this with a television show or with like something in your life that you've loved that you just realize it's over, like that. Things jumped the shark. Can't any one of these days somebody's gonna say that about us. But like I was sitting there listening and Will Bond and Corneiser we're.

Talking about how in college basketball these guys only stay here for a cup of coffee. And then Kentucky's got all these four and five years, but they're only gonna be there for a cup of coffee. And me and then Tony Kornheiser, my dear corning Tony Kornheiser, who literally I'd still be a lawyer if I didn't like his radio show.

Tony Corneiser goes.

You know who does it right is Michigan State tom Izzo, who every other pundit says should be kicked out of the Champion's Classic because they stink. And Tony gornh had to go that here. I like Michigan to date and Drew. My heart was broken. I was like, dude, you used to be the edgy, funny like everything, and now you're the old guy in the corner going time in seeing his guy for four years and they make it to the tournament.

Like I was like, when did that happen?

I see the pain in your eyes.

I hate it.

You don't just kind of like Tony Kornheiser, that's been and.

I've never met him.

Remember I was supposed to meet him and I had to fly back to Kentucky for a funeral and I didn't get to meet him.

The last time I've seen this paint in your face was when you didn't meet Tony Kornheiser in the second time is when Tony.

But I now like, you're gonna have to go away.

Like I've already stopped listening to his podcast because it's like it's a little old guy talking about like raking his leaves and stuff, and I go, you know I. But then I was like, PTI's over again. I've never really liked will Bond. But it wasn't that they spent two of the three minutes talking about Duke. It was that they were old dudes talking about how coffee used to be cheaper.

Ryan just I couldn't believe it, Drew, and I can now just see the pain in your eyes. We hear it in your voice. You put Tony corneyes on a pedestal. A lot of what we do is based on his show.

So I remember when your cried byes out when Letterman's final show was, but he left at the right time. This is gonna be the final season of Curb. And now I've even lost Cordon.

Wow did you cheer up a little here?

I just was like, I just was like, what has happened to you? And how and how old am I?

Like?

All these dudes like they're gone? So you know, now I don't know. I guess I gotta go like younger. I guess it'll be Bargatzi. He's at least my age, Steven A Smith if you need to. But PTI literally PTI, which I remember when it debuted in like two thousand and one or two thousand.

It's over. It ended last night for me. On the UK Duke segment, the moment he.

Said, you know who does it right with Bill self and Duke and Kentucky he said, Michigan State and Tom Is.

I was like, Drew, that's it. I'm done with that show.

It's hard to watch. Even Hey, Kentucky rest in peace. You modeled that after PTI a little.

Bit through his entire consistence was PTI. But for Kentucky Sports and News. I made them build that graphic so that it looked. I talked to a PTI producer about how they do the show, and this is how it ends, and he has to end.

Saying, Cam is is it need in a moment? No, I'm good. Doron and Marcus are coming there. They'll save No, don't take us.

Twenty two eighty seven text Machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. We'll talk more about Mark Pope getting praise everywhere here on KSR.

We'k gome back.

Got some folks from Indiana. Where are you guys from Louisville, e, Lizabethtown, Russell Springs.

I know you Louisville.

So we got all over the place here today. He's got something to sign from the twenty twelve National Championship. I bet that's very smart.

Here's cool. That's the seat cushion from the from the game.

We're gonna have to get their signatures on the door back there too.

I got the sharp already my part.

That's right. We do need to put him on the door. A lot of things.

So one person writes, map Alan Cutler broke the news this morning, Cutter Bowley is starting for UK.

What do you think I think we said that last week? I mean we did. We said it last week.

Last Thursday, Cutter Bowley started, So, uh, you know that's news broken.

A week later, I think Color had the Cutler saying Brock is starting.

I'm sorry, no, waute Cutter Saint Brock is starting.

He just tweeted a little before the show just says I hear that Brock is starting at QB. Okay, he's actually taking a different take. Then maybe that maybe the changed there. You got help and so I apologize to Alan. Maybe he knows something newer than that. Because everyone playing Ben for Cutter.

Maybe they they maybe Brock's gotten better that would be an interesting change if that If that happens, But I think either way, even if Brock does start, you're gonna see a ton of Cutter Bowley on Saturday.

Are you excited for that? Yeah?

I want to see what he can do.

You know, he's highly recruited as a cannon front arm, so hopefully he'll get a lot of chance to go out there and get some reps in.

And I think it's gonna be more than a few. Yeah.

Good.

I think he's gonna play a lot. I hope he does that.

You just want to see what you have.

Yeah.

I mean they're gonna have a lot of decisions to make on the cutter'sna have decision. UK's gonna have a decision, and you want to know what you're holding. Is this a guy we trust giving keys to and want to really make sure we retain, or maybe either party wants to go a different direction.

Yeah.

I want to get back to the football thing in a minute, but let's talk for a second about a couple other things from yesterday.

I missed this in the moment.

We talked about it early in the morning, but then I saw more details about it. You know, college basketball does not have a uniform basketball. Yeah, everybody, like everybody realizes that there are actually three basketballs used a lot. So we play with a Nike ball, and most Nike schools play with a Nike which means when the game's at Reparena, you have a Nike basketball. But when you play at Louisville or Kansas or Auburn, they have an Adidas basketball. And there are people that will tell you that the Adidas basketball is very different than the Nike basketball. I don't really know the difference, but there will people that tell you. Then in the NCAA tournament, they play with a Wilson basketball, which is even different than the others, in which almost no schools play with.

So there are three major basketballs, but that's not.

All the basketballs really.

Wisconsin plays with the basketball that is made in Wisconsin. It's like a local wesconsin basketball, and it's made by company in Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin legislature, I guess, had a rule that everyone in Wisconsin, every Wisconsin team has to play with the Wisconsin basketball. So apparently when you would play at Wisconsin, it was like you were playing a different sport with that ball.

And then the Champions Classic has its own ball.

It has a Spaulding basketball, which apparently is very rarely used.

Maybe it used to be the number one. Yeah, well I.

Think maybe Bellerman uses it, but there aren't aren't many. So you may remember the Adidas thing has come up before, yes, right, where like we would shoot really poorly, and I think Cal would even bring up the Adidas balls are a little different. Well, at the Champions Classic, everyone all the teams shot terribly from three. Duke shot twenty nine, but Kansas shot like Dix. To mean, Kansas shot twenty nine, Duke shot like seventeen, Michigan State shot twelve, Kentucky shot forty. And Pope said after the game that they practiced all week with the Spaulding basketball. Huh, like the entire practice. Before I tweeted that out, some people said other teams do that, some people don't. I when Cal was here, they would do the Adidas ball in pregame, shoot run, yeah, but they would not practice with it.

But Pope said he did it for a week. Now.

Look, I I'm not saying that makes you, you know, Albert Einstein to do that, But to me, those are the little things that actually drew I love seeing the coach do. To me, the difference between success and great success is often the little things, and I feel like Mark Pope seems to be a guy that does the little things.

I loved that news, probably more than I should because I'm thinking back and I brought this up on this show. Our guy Steven that does video for KSR by the re coreactions all that he has been screaming about these basketballs since he started working at our company. I've gone on road trips with him in ninety percent of the conversation is when is Kentucky gonna prepare for the basketball that's in these games?

Yeah?

I think it's the Wilson EVO next or something. Is the bright orange wins very bright Owen. I have walked in with an arena of him. We've been fifty yards from the court, and he points at the butts the bright orange Wilson ball. But his point is there's stats, and he's done a full length essay about this, about the difference in the balls, and I think, like Matt Painter a few others have noticed in practice, and it makes a difference. And I love hearing that Pope's doing it. I mean this, it is crazy, the difference in these basketballs, and there's dad out there to prove it, and.

It's crazy college basketball doesn't have one basketball it is.

It is kind of insane that you have to like go to a different basketball depending where you are. But you know, it's sort of like what I say about inn Al Ryan. It may be a stupid rule, but as long as it's the rule, you've got to operate within those constraints.

And he does.

And I just thought that was I think that's again a small sign. I'm not saying shy Er and self and those guys don't do it. I honestly don't know. I know that when the other regime was here, they'd only do it on game day. So hearing that they did it for a week is something that I love.

I definitely like it. We've heard guys that play at UK talk about the difference in the ball. It just I know people sitting here listening thinking that doesn't make any difference.

It does.

If you pick up the Nike basketball Dot reperena, it feels different.

And at the.

NCAA ball for an example, because we went out there on Pittsburgh.

This was just my ignorant opinion it's slicker.

Okay, it doesn't have quite the same grip because usually at the NCA term they're all new okay, oh yeah. And the other thing is it feels, at least to me, I'm not Tom Brady, but it feels more inflated.

Okay. It feels like it feels like when you dribble, the ball bounces higher.

Don't you remember you and I went out there and dribbled that, and did you is that kind of how you felt?

Wasn't there a game where guys kept losing the ball? Might just had to my aired it, but just guys bring it up the court. We're having trouble just dribbling. I mean, yeah, I think it's like a couple turnovers from just bouncing it to it's.

Just like a hyper ball. It's like it's like it's not broken in and it's just and.

I do think it makes sense, Like it makes sense.

Like now Nike may not like it to know that for a week in practice you're using the Spaulding basketball, But who cares.

We have to win the game. That's try.

Mark Pope is preparing to win the game. A little thing that may give his team a little more of an edge over the other guy.

Heck, y'all do it.

And so it So you have to love that and then not trying to be you know, I watched the first half of the cal Arkansas DJ Wagner played thirty seven minutes zero points.

Oh, I didn't know that.

Now Z hit like five threes.

The second.

Z had a Georgia game again, but they scored sixty five against Troy.

I know the trailing.

I'm just saying, it's a lot more fun to watch what we're watching. On twenty two eighty seven, we'll take a break.

TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

He'll make them.

Pay Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Here's Matt Jones speaking back.

Teke You Sports Radio eleven o'clock Marcus Tea Doron Lamb, I have a new podcast. Uh they are coming in here, assuming they're on time, but coming from Indianapolis.

So uh excited about that.

I guess it didn't sleep much last night.

Yay, that's what they do. Are you gonna Are you gonna tell Doron about your your your thing you share with him? I can.

I have a lot of angles. We could go there was some fun at at Trust back when the Thunder were.

On the truck.

Yeah, but we also I'm gonna ask him about the famous pickup game versus the Thunder. You know that's kind of been a thing of legend for a while. Was the was the pickup game against the Thunders?

I started a bracelet company out of that game.

That's right. Uh.

They told some stories I'd never heard before on their podcast too that we should tap into. Okay, well, the Indiana game especially.

Yeah, the Indiana game was the big one. I saw that, So I look forward to to chat with him. Who's up first?

Shit, Kevin? Kevin? Go ahead, Kevin.

Mister Matt Jones, how are you, sir?

Good? What's up? Good?

Want to call in? I love that you gave a good segue into the Arkansas game last night. I did a hate viewing session of it just to see and it really was the quintessential Calipery game. I mean it was a fifty percent full building. Brazil and Flan both go down with ankle injuries. They're five to nineteen from mid to long twos.

That's true.

They struggle with an inferior team for thirty two minutes, pull away late make it look better than it really was. But it's just one of those gross wins that you know of the fans.

That's really a good point that was. That was a quinn essential Cow win. It had all the element Shannon, it had the ankle injuries, it had the long twos, the poor shooting, your best player scored zero points, like like it really.

That was a quinn essential Cow game, Kevin.

Yeah, and the best my two favorite part, and I'll leave you with this. Halftime, they show a video of Brad cal Perry getting a demo of the Noah shooting system that they never used here. The irony was just, I mean, delicious. And then post game, cal says he doesn't even know when their next game is or when they played. He thought they were playing on Saturday, that they were going to be up against the Arkansas football game.

It's just unbelievable.

Yeah, he did say after the game, I appreciate the call Cal gave one of his he said, I don't know when we play next. He also gave a statement that he looked at the sid and goes did they always ask as many questions?

And that one.

Arkansas reporter said, well, you're never here so I guess we have to when we came.

Good for him.

I think Bob Holt is gonna have a few back and forth with Cal that we're gonna find entertaining.

Yeah.

So they did show the Brad Cali Perry Noah system. You know, that's the shooting system. Yeah, and Brad was describing it, and the irony of listening to them, and Brad actually did a good job.

I'm not making fun of Brad on this. He did a good job.

But the irony of them describing the system and how revolutionary it is when we had two coaches who never even logged into it, one of them.

That's there, very very tilling.

I mean literally, if you remember, they paid for the state of the art system, and when they need to get it repaired, they found out that two of the coaches had never logged in, including one of the ones in charge of game prep. So ran I just thought that they did a segment on how revolutionary that was did kind of make me laugh.

And when you just compare what you hear from Cal and Arkansas side and what you're hearing from Mark Pope and the Kentucky side, Mark is breaking down every single player on the opposing team. Cal didn't even know who he's playing, hasn't watched tape, doesn't prepared for them. As it looked at there, they couldn't tell you. One guy on their leading scorer on Troy's team, he didn't even know it. And Mark is breaking down every single guy on the opposing team.

John Clay said Kentucky's went over Duke was the first time since March seventh, twenty twenty, in which UK had been down nine and won a game.

Wow, sounds about right, Yeah, that's right before COVID.

Yes, the first time since the UK been a nine point deficit or more for a victory. Cats were what March seven, cod That was Florida, right before the before.

The Turnty much their championship. They had a big win there.

And literally that again for me, that's the dividing point is the COVID year. So it's interesting, this is the first time we've done that. You know, there was a point back in the day when you would when we would fall down that behind that much and you did think it was over. I will say, Drew this year, with the way we can shoot threes, it can literally for down nine, it could be a three possessions and you're right back in it.

Yeah, the way they play if they can get hot. I said this yesterday. I thought it might happen against Duke, but they actually used defense. But you're you're just three trips down the floor of Megan a three. You're back in the game, and we know they can do that. Uh, no issue there. I was surprised. I thought if you told me at halftime of the Dude game they'd come back and win, I would think they'd have one of those runs. Did they use other ways to make it happen?

Do you wish we were playing by the way this weekend or do you like, like kind of to keep the momentum going, or do you think having a week to kind of enjoy it and get cacause.

The next few games.

I mean, we play Lipscomb next, but like we don't play another hard game really until the Clemson game first week of December.

Is that? Are you good with that?

No?

I wish they were playing Saturday, no doubt. Are you just coming off this huge win, we got, all this momentum, all this excitement. I wish they would back on the court probably the next day on Wednesday.

Yeah, our next four games there, they are what's going on. We'll appreciate you, guys. The next four games are Lipscomb, Jackson State, Western Kentucky, and Georgia State. I mean a lot of the other teams end up playing they're hard games in November, but because we do that tournament here where we don't play anybody, we end up having our hard games in December, you know. And that's there's four, then our next four after that our Clemson, Gonzaga, we played Colgate, then Louisville and Ohio State.

You know, I understand we got to play the the what we call the cupcake games. I'm glad Western Kentucky's in there. That'd be at least some entertaining game for the fans. But the way our fans have showed up for Bucknell and Kentucky West an exhibition game, they'll pack ruppering it for those four games.

Eight nine, two, eight oh, twenty two, eighty seven. Who's next year, Sean, Sean, how are you sewing?

I'm wonderful, guys, Thank you so much. As a lifelong Kentucky fan the show, Casaw, this has been the best forty eight hours I think I can remember being a fan. But I'm gonna throw two quick things that you really really daft when when the job was open. When the job was open, I wanted a big name and the first one I used to tell everybody was Brad Stevens. But guys, I think we have the modern day Brad Stevens. Wow with the way coach Pope with with with the way Coach Pope uses analytics. It's gathering data. He's got every coach working, student assistants right behind him with computers. It's live data and the adjustments are only going to get better. I think we overlooked the fact that this guy is amazing when it comes to analytics.

He's the Billy Dean.

He's the Billy Dean of college basketball for Moneyball. In my opinion, The next throughout are really five real quick Nexdale. Don't you really go ahead? Okay, go ahead, dude, now you talked about it.

Wait, we get dudes.

I think in twenty twenty four NCAA basketball guys, I think we got dudes. They're twenty two years old and they're amazing. I want to hang up and again appreciate you so much.

Not don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this group of guys aren't really good. They're very talented in today's college basketball having twenty two you know, the twenty twelve team with freshman and sophomores winning, that is what worked then. I don't know if it works now or not, but the twenty two to twenty three year.

Olds is what's worked the last few years.

I'm just saying they're not NBA guys at least we doesn't look like it yet. Maybe they become it, but in today's college basketball, drew that's not what wins. I mean, that's not like you need an NBA guy. And I think in a year or two when Pope gets NBA guys and has.

That, then you're looking at a different thing.

But I still, you know, in today's college basketball teams, teams look more like that than they did twenty ten to twenty fifteen.

Yeah, when you con won the first of two in a row and they were picked middle of their conference, I don't think anyone saw a ton of NBA talent there. Now, they played their way into it because they had a special season, and last year they had a few more. But Kentucky certainly doesn't have any guys that are high on draft boards at the moment. But you know, maybe they have a Final four run they can play into it. That's just not what they came in here to be.

Yeah.

So when I say they don't this group doesn't have dudes, I don't mean like they're not really good.

I'm just saying it's different. It's different than anything.

We've had in a long time, and so you just have to kind of, you know, get used to it.

It's a change.

We're not watching the mock drafts as much as we were for the rest.

But then take next year.

You're gonna have three or four of those dudes and combine them with a team.

Full of these guys. Yeah. Right.

There was one of the little podcasts I listened to said, if you tell me tomorrow Otega always coming back with the recruiting class they get. I'll pick Kentucky preseason number one. Oh, we don't even.

Know who else will be on the roster, Colin Chandler, the Kentucky Boys, and.

Then yeah, and then presumably three or four our transfers, and that's what you would get. Clayton Crube was founded on a simple idea Ryan all leather goods should last a lifetime. They make everything from bags, belts, Walatimore and the best part, they're doing it right here in Kentucky. Check out Clayton and Croom dot com. That's c R U m E dot com. They have a flagship store in Louisville on Shelby Street, located in New lou It's quality leather goods, built to last at Clayton and crewm. You can stop by there tomorrow when you come to down to New lou for the revit.

It's just like right.

There, great place, great for Christmas gifts coming up.

To That's right, We'll take a break, be right back. Eleven o'clock.

Doron Lamb, Marcus Tig this is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Working back.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS Margaret. We opened it eleven o'clock. Come on out and have lunch tomorrow night. The Mike, Mike Tyson, Jake Paul Fight is here. Yes, Jake or Logan, Mario, Jake ja. So we're gonna show it here on the on the televisions. You know, it's just it's on Netflix. But like you can't have it in public establishment or they will come and arrest you. Like it's like ten years in Bristin, so we we bought it and but we will have it here tomorrow night.

If that's your thing, you can watch Tyson and Jake.

He said, I've had zero interest in boxing the last twenty years you're watching, but this one interests me.

Yes, Jake minus two is basically minus two thirty favorite on the betting notts.

I'll be rooting for Mike h Man just the age difference has gotten huge.

Was not put just a ton of money on the guy who's not fifty eight.

Years old, and the guy who's promoting company has putting it together.

Yeah, I mean, I feel like, am I am?

I crazy? That that's free money. I would love to lose that money. I would love for Mike Tyson to knock him out. I just don't think that's gonna happen.

I feel like, I mean, he's he's fifty eight, he fought. I mean, Jake has beaten guys his own age. This dude's thirty years older than he is.

Yeah, you know he's my age don plumpfielder guy. But this ain't a AAA bail throwing championship in leban You think Mike Tyson's gonna win right.

Well, I mean I.

Think if it were one hundred percent legit, I think he would. But I don't think this is gonna be one hundred percent legit. I think there's gonna be some Shenanigans involved.

So you think if you think if it was legit, Mike Tyson would win, yeah, fifty eight?

Yeah I do, Okay, Yeah, I just.

Think about the end of people's career where they were getting knocked out by just random dudes.

Yeah, that happened to him at thirty eight.

But I know, but now it's twenty years later.

Right, And have you seen Mike Tyson? Yeah, no, he looks like a badass at fifty.

But but well, okay, so this is how they get you, Like, I know, this is I know this ridiculous, but I'm having a legitimate argument with Shannon about it.

Yeah.

But so tomorrow night we'll have it on here. Feel free to come watch, and then the women play Saturday. We're opening, by the way, at ten at uh ten nine. I don't know games, but we're opening early for breakfast for the Murray State games.

Our breakfasts are really good.

So uh and you're gonna be gone, So it's gonna be me Drew, Max and Miles, which has the potential to go way off the race.

My goodness, Miles is coming out.

I didn't know that, And so, uh, this is if you've ever wondered, what is like KSR the closest on radio to uncensored.

I think Drew, Max and Miles may be the one that does.

I can I can control myself with one of them, but the two of those guys, they're a little too much fun and I find myself joining them, all.

Right, So uh, Kentucky confirmed that basically, Stoops confirmed that there are some roster issues going for that they were planning on having ninety five guys next year and now they've been told it's eighty five and they have to figure out how to navigate that. What I told you about walk On is that actually is not going to go into effect until the next year, so that's not an issue. But they were basically planning on having ninety five scholarships and now they're gonna have eighty five. And Stoop said, quote, I'm spending well, not quote, but something to the effect of I'm spending more of my time this week on roster management than the game, which is not a great sign, I guess, but what do you make of that.

I heard him say that, and he's already said something like he was having to spend too much time with boosters and meeting for NAL money. Makes me think there's more and more things adding up that he's anti job.

You know, I will tell you this.

I've talked to like three people very much in the program, and none of them really know what he's gonna do. I personally just don't believe that. I'm definitely not I'm definitely coming back. I mean, I'm not saying he won't come back. It's probably more likely he comes back than not. But I don't think it's been decided at all. And you know, I don't know. I still think how the next three weeks go matters Drew. I mean, they're gonna win Saturday, but then after that, there's a big difference between playing a competitive game at Texas and beating Louisville, then getting blown out at Texas and losing the Louisville Like, those are very different results at the end of the year.

Yeah, on that, I don't think Stoops has any idea. I didn't believe zero percent he'll make that decision. When the season's over. But the numbers thing have a pretty big issue on their hands because if you just took the freshmen, you've already got commitments from and said by the seniors, you're still over. Yeah, that's not counting going to the portal. And it's very obvious they need portal help right away. You know, plenty of positions that have underachieved. So there's gonna have to be some difficult conversations and they gotta hope some guys that are on the team now will want to go step into the point.

They lost their four star receiver commitment yesterday. They had a four star receiver commitment who backed out. A lot of people think going to LSU. I mean, I understand, you know, I mean, if LSU offers you that's wide receiver you in some ways, so I get it.

This was not the year to show your receiver as well.

You Camero now.

I mean, but that's a tough that's a that's a tough loss for him on the thing. But then again, you know they're gonna have to get some losses that they're not gonna be able to get the numbers that they need to get.

Who's up next? Leah, Leah, go ahead, Leah.

Hey, Matt, I'm a longtime listener for a thir genera should graduate and I went to the game. I'm from Atlanta. I went to the game two nights ago, and I just have to say it was just such sweet redemption for the lifelong fans that suffered all the losses with Duke that we have have had the years that we've had in the past. There were three Duke guys that were sitting behind us and they they made the comment, when did Atlanta become a home field or a home turf for Kentucky basketball. The fans were just amazing. It was an amazing scene. So I just want to give a shout out to every to say, it's just a great feeling to be back in this position.

Yeah, that's exactly right. I appreciate it.

I mean Atlanta used to be what we now say Nashville is Ryan, right, Like I mean, it used to be where the Kentucky crowds always came and it was great to see that come back.

Yeah.

We called it Catlanta for a reason because when the SEC Tournament was there, year after year after year, Kentucky would take over the arena, and a couple of my friends were at the game. They said the same thing the colle just did. It was a home field advanage, home court advantage because all the blue and all the Kentucky fans that were in there made it Catlanta made it feel like Catlanta again.

Yeah, I forgetting which website did it, but I read a national story yesterday and it kind of led with we saw why that's Katlanta. It's basically saying Katlanta's back, that's Kentucky City.

Yeah, and such a cell again, a celebration for all the reasons that we talked about. Let me ask you, we'd said before the game, we'll know how good we are.

How good are.

We by the way the ESPN New Power rankings have his eighth?

Is that right? You think that's about right?

I think even though they won the game, they didn't even play their best basketball. I think there's a lot out of they're better basketball to come from this on this team. So you ask me on me how good they can be. I think it'd be a lot better than I even thought.

But that's not how good really good? Okay, but give me.

Put it into some sort of rating system behind the rine really.

Good, I'll go really really good.

No, I'm serious, give me a number system like i'd say.

I'd say I had them hoping just to get to the second week in the NCAA tournament. Now I can see this team legit making a final four run.

Yeah, I haven't seen all the teams right now, but they have to be a top ten team, especially with that win. I think the ratings might even reflect that next week and they get corrected to beat Duke, a team with all that talent, the way they did with Jackson Robinson not making shots and the way they started looking a little scared, I think they still have so much more to show.

Yeah, me too.

I actually would put them eight to twelve, So I thought having an eight was very generous and fair, you know. I mean, I still think there's like five teams that I definitely would put ahead of them against Zaga. But we but we play Gonzaga, We're gonna play Alabama, so we're gonna know what what it's like against those two teams. You know, over the course of the next year. Tennessee's right there. We're gonna play Auburn, So I mean, right now, we're scheduled to play three of the six top six teams in the ESPN rainings. We're gonna play Auburn, Gonzaga, and Alabama. Tennessee is about like we are, so, I mean, we're gonna get good tests. The Clemson test will be interesting to me because Clemson is like a lot of the games you're gonna play in the SEC under roup, Right, We're gonna play a team that we are better than them, but they're on their home floor.

You know, Marcus and.

Doran know what those what those environments are like when you come to town for the one time over two years.

In Clemson's case, we've never gone there.

So I think that's gonna be that'll be a really interesting test for the team when they get there.

A friend of mine ask, how is Matt not driving you to the Clemson game on the way to Gonzaga.

It's not really on the way, It's not. I mean, that's really the opposite.

Way to stop this from the past.

It would be I don't think we could get there if we if if we if we left, you know, I'm I'm we leave on that trip guys in two.

And a half weeks. No, do you all realize that?

Yeah, I'm still going to Austin too. I don't know, I see much he runs.

Two and a half weeks we leave on our way to get that.

I didn't think about it, but yeh, all right, Mario.

Got us the car yesterday, large SUV, two rows, so.

Playing room for luggage, plenty of Well.

Hope that's what we hope. Yeah, we'll see. Uh, we're gonna take a break when we come back. Two of the members of the twenty twelve championship team join us.
