Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Thursday, August the eighth. I am Matt Jones here at Chsbarn Grill where we will be here all day. Love to see you come out on a beautiful day, have lunch. See Ryan Livandrew Franklin, Mario, myself, Shannon is in Louisville, and you gives a show on the Clarks Pumping Shop foam line.
I'd love to hear from you.
What I'd like to hear is like from some folks just sort of saying, hey, what's going on? If you have, like questions or whatever, just to hear some good voices eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass text machine is seven seven two seven to seven four five two five four in this ditition sponsored by the TJ.
Smith Law Office called Tj'll make.
Them pay next week, Ryan, I think I'm gonna do the UH. We do it about once a year, the UH Unpopular Opinion Day, yes where people give their unpopular opinions about things.
I always enjoy that to hear what is it?
What is something you think that's not gonna get you around of applause.
Yeah, and we all have him sometimes we're a little afraid to mention him. But so we're giving you a platform.
It's like a free day, free day.
It's like a trust zone, and we need it because some people get really upset. I'll give you an example, Drew. You saw the text machine yesterday. A lot of people want to be called coach in this world, like a lot of people, and they got mad at me. Even though Shannon was much angrier about saying he wasn't gonna say coach. Nobody wrote and said Shannon is a jerk. They wrote and said mad is a jerk because you don't show respect for coaches. Channon was much worse about it. But on an unpopular opinion day, you can call in and go I don't want.
To call doctors. Doctor. You're allowed to do that on that day if you want.
Every once in a while we hit a topic that I think everyone wants to chime in on, and yesterday the coach coach speak was certainly.
One of those. Gone for three days.
Talked about UK football, UK basketball, talked about my trip, talked about former president somebody trying to shoot him. What gets the most text messages calling people coach or not, that's what That's what everybody weighs in on. So it just goes to show what people like. Now, a couple of things here. First of all, if you come here today, it's very nice to see Freddie magn Yeah, Freddi, Wayne, haven't seen Freddy in a long time. Great to see you looking great. I hope you will talk in a little bit. You walked in right as we started. But it's great to see you, Freddie. I've missed you, so nice to see Freddie here. Secondly, tonight, well, first of all, I want to take can I.
Tell you about yesterday please, so you know. I don't know if you saw.
While I was gone, I put out a list of the food that I was missing in Europe, yes, because I was trying to eat healthier and I was like exercising, but I was like, I want to be honest with you, I'm missing some food. And if you remember, I said, I miss McDonald's dot coke. We've gotten right back in. That's not been something you don't have to worry about that true. I got right back into you.
Had it Monday when you came in.
Then the ks bar wings got right back into that. Got that the day I came back. Also said the roosters boneless wings with the sauce. Got that one day when I came back. Uh, Nerd gummy clusters, with the Nerd gummy clusters. So I'm not I'm only eating like four or five a day, like got packs four or five little because you get into that. I think that's where I put on a bunch of weight, was the Nerd gummy clusters.
The only thing I hadn't had was Skyland.
Oh, here we go.
The skyline is not exactly good drew for your diet.
No, especially when you're already working in the gummy clusters also.
Well, so when you're trying to stay healthy, you know Skyline is is a detour.
So I hadn't been yet.
So I was sitting there yesterday afternoon, had an important meeting, went well, and I thought, all right, it's time to reward myself with some Skyland.
So how do we make skyline? Okay? I decided it would be by walking to Skyland. Oh okay, all.
Right, outside, so walk You know where I am, where I live. Yes, I went to my place. They have a sauna on campus, like I go to. Woman runs that. I went and got my sauna. Bad decision on a walk, because then you get kind of dehydrated.
Huh.
So I walked like two miles there, and then from her sauna to Skyline is three miles.
I was like, I got this, Wow, got this.
A couple things I didn't realize. First of all, when you're dehydrated on the sauna, not the best time to go walking when it's ninety degrees in human. Second, Richmond Road is a lot longer than I remember. Oh yeah, Like I kind of think of Richmond Road as you're downtown. Then you're at Cow's old house. Then you're at Skyline. I thought those were the only.
Thing in that order.
In that order, you're downtown Cow's House skyline.
There's a lot in between it drew, there is a lot.
Surprisingly, from Cow's House to Skyline is a lot.
That's a that's a hall. That's a hall.
And there's no sidewalks, okay. Richmond Road after Cow's House has no sidewalks.
Why I don't know none, there's none. We learned a little drink Shan Shannon, you remember that during your walk or what like? There's no there.
I feel like I even Nicholsonel Road has side has has sidewalks.
Why doesn't Richmond Road have sidewalks?
Not on either side?
They don't have sidewalk And usually the maps when I figure out where to walk, will not let you walk on things that.
Aren't sidewalks if you put walk in. But it said it was okay.
So Linna Gordon put some sidewalks between Cow's House and Skyline because I felt like I was walking from my life.
Where was calwalking his dog's that time? That was on a sidewalk?
I think he was just walking up and back in front of his house for the news cameras to see, and that was one of the most blatant, like I'm just walking my dog.
Well, where are you walking the same twenty yards back and forth now?
But anyway, by the time I got the skyline, I thought I was gonna fall, like I was sweating. And I walked in and there's a girl that works there that he's has seen me there often, and she she I knew I didn't look good when she goes, are you okay?
And my plan was to walk back.
That's I ended up uber after the skyline, but it was worth it because it was good.
But were you able between enjoy your skyline?
I mean I was walking like seven eight miles a day, nine miles a day in Europe, but we forget it's not as humid over there like it is. The humidity here, Drew is a whole nother thing. Like ninety degrees here is a different thing than ninety degrees anywhere in Europe except maybe like Greece.
Yeah, no, I like that you halfway wanted to dehydrate yourself at the finish line, a big bowl of chili waiting for you.
I mean, you need a walk advisor do The sauna was not.
A good idea before I but before I took, before I walked.
But I'm glad I did it.
And now I've had all the foods and now I don't have to eat them all for a while because we're not gonna do that right.
And now you check the other thing you've missed, which is driving around the state with us coming up next.
So we're going to Hopkinsville.
So that gets us to Every year I try to do a kind of state of KSR like meeting.
Like an annual retreat.
Usually our retreat ends up being like, you know, bike Bowl, really, you know, glamorous place.
Yes, So this year it's gonna be.
Hopkinsville because we're doing a show at a Vision Glass tomorrow. And by the way, everybody in Hopkinsville would love to see you out there tomorrow. Come say hello while while we're there. But here's what I need tonight. I need restaurant slash after our recommendations in Hopkinsville. So seven seven two seven seven four five two five four, where should we eat tonight.
For our meeting? Now?
It needs to be a place where we can talk to each other for the for the dinner, right, because that's when we're doing our meeting. So it can't be like someplace where there's a DJ playing, and then where's our after hours place? Because Mario says he's going to bring out his Michael Jackson smooth criminal shoes tonight in Hopkinsville, so we need somewhere where he will fit in with that.
I'm trying to think in the years past, we went to the b W Three's in Hopkinsville.
We we we stopped going to BW threes when KSR open.
We've been to Farrell's, We've been there in Hopkinsville.
That's not a dinner place.
That's really that's like a lunch place. I mean where we've been. You're telling the things we've been.
To a decade ago.
We went to there's that Mexican restaurant, we've been to itodcast.
And then there's the place that's next to the Hampton End.
What's it called. There's that you can walk to from the Hampton End. We've done that. Where we've been a little We went to a steakhouse that was really good, but it was really small.
Do you remember that? It was like a downtown steakhouse.
Oh, I think I do kind of remember that.
So anyway, if you're in Hoptown or you know, Hoptown, tell us where we should eat tonight. And then if you're around Hoptown at the dinner you can say hello, but we're working. But in the after hours, if you see us, just come party with Mario and his shoes. Because this is our night out in Hoptown. He doesn't have to get home like he usually does. Ryan's promised to taie Wan on tonight, Drew, so.
It should be fun.
I'm very looking forward to it. I haven't been to Western Kentucky in a while. I'm gonna swing through Madisonville for a detail, and then Hopkinsville had him hung out with you all after hours.
And it's been a long time. I mean it's been except for our trip to Pennsylvania. It's been a long time since we've had a night like this because this dude used to always drive home. Remember every time we'd go anywhere, Ryan was always saying hey, and so he wouldn't he wouldn't stay, And so Shannon like, we get a night together.
Isn't it exciting?
I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, it's gonna be a good three and a half hour drive for all of us, but looking forward to getting there.
And Billy, who always complains that he's never part of the group, decided to go on vacation this week, so it's only so Billy, it's only on him.
I do like the moment you're back, he said him out. I don't want I want to talk to him. I don't want to go to.
Any meetings, I don't want to do any shows with him. I'm getting the heck away from well.
One week gone and uh, and he was out so last thing. Uh And I'm not gonna I'm not gonna talk about any of the details on this. But I did yesterday Ryan get to meet Mark Poe. Yes, I had actually i'd never met him.
I don't.
I mean, I think I think I met him when he played here, but I had never I had never met him. I sat down with him for a while yesterday, and it was a it.
Was a great conversation.
He's gonna come on here in a few weeks and we're gonna talk about some of the stuff we talked about, because I I kind of sat down and talked with him sort of about his view of the program and and and it was and like how he envisioned this going.
And uh, it was really great.
I'm I'm excited to be quite frank with you from a KSR perspective, to have I mean, I'm gonna be honest with you, to have a positive relationship with the coach again. I mean, I think that's that. When that was good with cal it made this thing better, and in the last two or.
Three years it made it harder.
He couldn't I'm not just saying this, and those of you that have dealt with him as a fan, he he couldn't have been nicer. Yeah, like he couldn't have been nicer. He actually joked with me and said thanks a lot for getting a louder ovation that during the press conference, and I said, I think yours was much louder. But in listening to him talk we were together for about an hour and listening to him talk about his vision of how he wants this to go. I mean at the end of it, I was like, well, do you need me to play? You know, like he has that ability to kind of really get you excited about it.
And we've seen that how he's rallied the fan base, he's rallied the former players, he's got us all on board. We all feel like we got our team back, so to speak, did.
You feel that energy?
Though we keep hearing about that everything is all about energy, energy, energy you.
He talks about the state of Kentucky like he grew up in Harlan County and I mean, he's a New York kid who went to school in Washington, but he talks about Kentucky like he played in the thirteenth Region, like he's just got that sort of love of this place. And he talks he wants. He doesn't just This is what I love about him. He doesn't just want to succeed. He wants to succeed at Kentucky. That's really important to him. He doesn't just want to like a lot of coaches want to accomplish goals because we all have personal goals. He wants to accomplish goals at Kentucky. And I think that is that is I don't want to say I don't mind gonna act like Cal didn't do that, but I think Cal would sort of take the view, I'm gonna do this wherever I am in Kentucky's the best place to do it. He takes a view of I want to do it here because it's here. And Ryan, I think that's exciting.
And I think it takes a special person to understand that what it means, what this basketball program means to the people of this state. And he gets it.
He understands it and understands the asignment. He says yeah, And so I just I came away from that very excited. But also as I was preparing for the meeting, you know, they're doing all that construction there right there's like you know, there's they're finishing. They say they're gonna play games and Memorial Coliseum in two weeks. I'm gonna throw the challenge flag on that. We'll see if they do. I'll impressed. Maybe they will, I don't know.
But so stuff is, you can't get in the normal doors.
So I went in one of the side doors, tried to get one of the side doors next to Joeby Hall Lodge where the players are, and I kept trying to pull the doors.
They were all locked.
This dude comes over and goes, hey, my key may work. He's one of the construction guys and the key doesn't work. And then he looks at me and he goes, here, I'll walk you around. As we walk around, he goes, so, what are you doing here, And I was like, I'm gonna Mtna see meet Mark Pope and he goes, you guys gonna get along.
He was like, I hope so.
So at that point I knew it's not just me that once too, Drew, I think everybody else would like it as too as well.
Yeah, when you mentioned you're a meeting Pope, I think my initial reaction is, oh, well, this is new, this is different.
Been a while since we've had the old meet with the coach. I was great. So I'm very excited about it.
And if you and you will hear that, I'm sure you've seen it in press conferences, you'll see it more the dude like it's infectious energy. It's different infectious energ like you know, Cal was an infectious like this dude is such a good salesman.
This is more like I just want to make this dude happy because he's so happy, right, he's excited.
To be He's cow was quite that's right. Cal was like, cool, I want to be with the cool guy. Mark Pope is like, dude, this.
Dude's fun, let's just go get it.
And I think it's different, but it certainly worked, at least on me if I'm nine twenty two eighty seven, Well, take a break, take a calls.
It's chaos. This is gonna be Mario tonight. Yes, Andy, are you okay? Are you okay? Any he's got the shoes? Yes, you're gonna do that? Never Shannie, I'm glad your came or whatnot? When I did that? Right? There?
Is this the one where hit the shoes? He leaned the lean.
Yeah, he leans in this This is the lean video af I'm nine seven. A lot of people suggesting Ryan the mixer in Hopkinsville as our after hours. It sounds like the kind of place you know, you mix.
Dude.
It's a lot of suggestions to Katie's k Katies Uh, to some to some steakhouse there, but that's twenty minutes away.
We can't.
It's hard enough channing to go to Hopkinsville. Let's find something hopkins It's a big place. There's gonna be something in Hopkinsville, right that we can. We can get Hopkinsville Retreat, not the Tree County.
Yeah, we're not going to Tree Canty. I've seen the Robert E. Lee memorial. Like, we're good.
One of our last trips to Hopkinsville. They had some big festival downtown.
We kind of just stump that was the Oh that was We didn't it was it was the eclipse.
It was the festival for the eclipse, for the eclipse. You didn't make that connection. Festival might have been for the eclipse. I remember walked.
I mean the eclipse was the next day, and so like it felt like it probably coincided.
Well, we didn't know it. We kind of walked out there.
Right.
Did you guess it, right, Drew? Did you guess maybe it was with the eclipse.
I thought all the eclipse merchandise was it was a big tail, big tell what's going on? Yeah, I mean I still have a little PTSD from that drive. That's why we're our driving together.
Yeah, well, I don't think the traffic will be quite as bad. One person writes, Matt is Mark Pope as tall in person as he seems. Yes, yes, yes, I mean I'm tall, but he towers over you like he's like he's tall. It's interesting going in his office because that was Cow's office. And again, it's hard to talk about the changes without sounding like I'm ripping col I'm really not. I'm just trying to tell you what's different when you used to go into Cow's office and you know this true, it was kind of an ode to Cow. Right, Like there was Memphis stuff up there was all the ball there's you mass stuff up And I'm not criticizing this. That's he was there, right, I mean, but he's got balls from famous wins. There was a lot of Kentucky stuff up right, there's that that he The biggest thing was like the wall Patterson, Cousins, Slam magazine.
Poster, et cetera.
Pope's office, all can Yucky stuff, like all Kentucky stuff.
It's just a different thing.
It's not it's but I do think it's sort of symbolic to the way that they both both look at things, if that makes sense.
Spruce has even had time to get those things up in his office so good.
Was it pretty filled out?
I mean it was you could tell was it was new, but it was it was Kentucky stuff.
And like his family that like that's what that's what it was.
So it's a it's amazing what he's done since he's been here. Like we talked about, he went down to South America. He's been going to Peach Jam, He's going to all these places and yet oh yeah, Turkey, have to move my family over, you know, gotta buy a house, gotta settle in, got us on my new office. And yet when you meet him, he probably seemed like he was had been It seemed like he'd been there for years.
It did, and it's just you just get the feeling of excitement that you get from him is just it's contagious. I walked out of there going, Okay, this is gonna be fun good. That's and that's what you I think that's what he wants to impart to uh, to probably everybody including recruits.
Who's up next? Shit? John? John? How are you John? Doing good? Hey?
A couple of things. First, does Pope know why cal Perrys and whin he asked it wouldn't talk to you. And second of all, does you know we belong the SEC or we are you know, members of the SEC, and you know and we have an increased revenue SEC and the Big Ten over the other schools. How how and if if it does, how does that create a competitive advantage for us?
Well, so that's a great question about revenue.
So really, starting this year, the Big ten in the SEC are about to have a massive revenue advantage over everybody else. So the Big ten in SEC are essentially going to be making twice as much money a year off television as acc Big twelve schools are. So from a nil just from an everything perspective, the Big ten in the SEC sixteen teams, in the SEC eighteen, in the Big ten talking thirty four teams, they are now Tier one of athletics, and some teams are along for the ride, like Vandy and Purdue. Now isn't an advantage for Kentucky. Well, on the one hand, it's an advantage visa VI like Louisville.
Okay, we're gonna have twice the revenue of Louisville.
But I don't know that it's an advantage for Kentucky overall because the teams we play are gonna have that exact same revenue advantage. So you've basically, as somebody told me recently, you've essentially raised the minimum wage. Okay, So like in capitalism, when you raise the minimum wage, it certainly helps the lowest owner or the lowest paid workers, but it also in some ways at the cost of everything goes up. So while it helps, and it does overall help, but it doesn't help as much as you would think, because the cost of goods goes up too as part of them, as part of.
The minimum wage. I think the same thing is true here.
We're raising the money, and I appreciate the call, but our opponents, Ryan, are also getting their money raised, so it doesn't necessarily help a ton.
Yeah, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, they're getting the same thing in Kentucky's getting. There's no advantage there at all for our rival conference rivals.
But it does help against Louisville.
It does help in basketball against the Yukons of the world, in Carolina and Duke. I mean, honestly, look at our If you think the five best basketball programs are Carolina, Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky, we're the only one that's about to see this revenue boost. They're all in conferences where they're not gonna see it. So I do think it will help in that respect.
Yeah, I certainly like widening the gap on Louisville and some of those other programs you name, But as Ryan noted, Tennessee and some of the others you gotta compete with regularly every season in the SEC, they're getting that same same bump as well.
The ACC is the big loser in it because the ACE, because when the Big twelve signs their new media contract, they're gonna get to do it with the new standards of the the ACC starting in two years, will make.
Significantly less money than every other conference.
And that's why Clempson and Florida State went out, like the ACC signed a deal about a year or two early, and they locked all their teams in by contract, and so they're gonna end up with half the money of the other schools.
And there's really nothing they can do about it.
So the ACC, honestly, in the new television world, is kind of the big loser in the whole thing. We'll take a break, be right back, SKSR.
TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
He'll make them pay now.
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Walk come back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Here it's KOs Bar and Grill. Uh Shannon.
I'm used to having I'm used to having like Trump people yell at me, but I like when it becomes liberal people yelling at me too.
What are they yell?
People writing about my minimum wage thing, Like, I'm against raising the minimal wage. Just for the record, I'm for raising the minimum wage. It's too low considering what costs are. With that said, you also have to live in the real world to know, like raising the minimum wage doesn't just make everything immediately better. Like if somebody was making ten dollars and then they go to seventeen dollars, that's awesome, But if that happens.
For everybody, the price of stuff's going to go up.
Now, the reason you raise the minimum wage is the price doesn't go up as much as the wage increase. So it's ultimately good for poor people. But everything has a everything has a like economics doesn't change just because of what your heart believes. So like everything has a reaction and people should should know that.
So Matt Jones in favor of minimum wage increase.
Yeah, it's too it's too low considering the cost of But but honestly, most people don't like because the job market so many people have jobs.
Most people they raise the price naturally. There's your economics, thank you. Uh.
There is judo or no taekwondo on TV right now? What is the difference between judo, Shannon and taekwondo. It looks the same to me, but I except they seem to wear a pad. So what's the difference?
I like that you come to me for this, Like I know the difference between judo taekwondo.
I have no idea.
I don't think the Olympics has karate.
They have judo and taekwondo, but they look to the Naked Eye drew like.
The same thing. But I don't know. I'm sure there's a difference. What's the difference? I don't know.
Specific rules, but I think, uh, judo is a little lighter, is throwing, yeah, sobsitions. I think taekwondo maybe a little more physical, maybe some hand What is this?
This is taekwondo?
The kicks, they're kicks.
Judo throw Jodo's like you gotta grab them and throw them.
So you can't throw in this, I don't think.
So we need judo. That sounds a lot more entertaining.
Who's the guy that there was a guy who did judo law? Is that still working? He didn't do taekwondo law. He was making people submit in the court room. And then there was that you remember that show Drew The Wonderful Whites or whatever.
One of the best documentaries the Judy Chop Oh subob yes see.
And then there's weightlifting is on TV. I think weightlifting might ryan be the most boring sport to watch in the Olympics because you're just like, yeah.
And then that's the whole thing. I don't think that's the most exciting thing.
You got to You gotta halt on, you get it up. Do you have to hold it for a couple seconds?
Try They call lyft clean and jerk clean and.
Jerk yeah, and you gotta hold it for like two or three seconds before they let you lay it down.
I always feel like they're gonna get hurt. Yeah, you know what I mean, because if it goes.
Wrong, your shoulder comes out of its socket, does it. Yeah, that's not good.
Now, that's a big day for UK in the Olympics. So let's go through them.
We got three guys playing in the semi finals in basketball. We got Bam and Anthony Davis, Devin Booker. We've got uh Sidney McLaughlin going for gold in the four hunder meter hurdles where maybe she will break a sweat, probably not. We've got the guy in the two hundred meter what's his name.
I don't have it. I'll get it. I don't have it.
It's somebody, and then we have something that's really complicated.
He's with Zimbabwe. And then we have somebody in something else. While every skinner's on right now. Brazil versus US and volleyball, Brazil won two straight gold medals, and then the Americans beat Brazil in the last Olympics for the goals.
These are two Olympic.
Powers, and she's been awesome for USA won the national championship. Yeah, there's a guy in the one hundred and ten met one hundred and ten meter hurdles, Daniel Roberts from Kentucky. And then they had a diver this morning really early, move on to play or dive in tomorrow's final. So it's been a lot of Kentucky people. Julie Vincent's her name Kentucky.
It feels like this is the Olympics with the most Kentucky people I can ever remember that.
He's true.
It does seem like every sport got a Kentucky and even even break dancing we talked about yesterday.
Now, did you two other Olympic things I wanted your take on. First of all, did you see the French woman who was in the steeplechase.
Did you see this?
I didn't see it.
She was in the steeplechase and she came in fourth.
Now, usually when you come in fourth, like I think, Shannon, fourth is the worst, Like you don't.
Get anything, you just you get.
Yeah, it's so I think fourth would be a bummer. Not to this woman, she said a personal best. So she was like, I'm not worried about you all. I'm competing with me.
I will do me. This is the best steeple chase I've ever done.
So she runs over to her boyfriend in the crowd and gets on one knee and ask him to marry. Oh now, but it is a woman, she proposed, she proposed to him. So she got on one knee and proposed to him in front of the you know, millions of people in France, their home country.
He said yes, So they're now engaged.
When she was asked about afterwards, she said, we've been dating for nine years.
This was the best day of my life.
Running the steeple chase, my personal record in my home country. I felt like if I if it was gonna happen, now is the time, which I kind of heard Shannon, as he's been waiting nine years.
He ain't gonna do it. It's up to me to do it. Yeah. So what do you think of the woman asking the man to get to mayor.
She put him on the spot. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
I've been asked by a woman to marry another woman before.
It was a little weird.
What you've been asked. We've been asked by a woman to marry a different woman.
No, then I've been proposed to by a woman.
Let me word that a little bit differently.
So, uh, yeah, it's it's I'm sure it was a little awkward for him.
I told you, I've told that story. Yeah, you've several times.
And you said no. Yeah.
So it sounds like this woman has been steeplechasing that ring for a long time. It wasn't gonna wait to orders.
Would you say yes, Shannon? Same thing with you. Would would you all say yes to a woman if you were ready to marry her?
Or would you say like, I don't feel right, I mean of the gender roles flipping.
I would be okay with it if I was ready. I think I would say yeah. That's fine, Yes, put the ring on my finger.
Let's I think. I think I I'd be okay with it too. What about you? I would I would be okay with it.
I'm wondering. So she did? She have her own ring and then she gave it to him and he had.
Handed it to her. No, she put it on him. She put it she had told a friend. So when she ran over there, the friend handed her the ring and then she got on one knee and did it and then put she.
Put the ring on him his finger.
Yeah.
I don't know how that works, to be honest with you, I guess, but but that's what happened.
The clue didn't have one to give her. I don't know.
I feel like I messed that up a little bit. I mean I certainly wouldn't say no, but I would on the inside be like, oh I should have done this, especially if do it at the Olympics with the world watching.
Almost feel like he's getting called out. He was getting called I would not want to. I mean, he clearly got called out. Now. The second thing, I love this so a guy from the Philippines. He won.
I don't remember what the sport was, but there was some sport. He won a gold medal. The Philippines, no male had ever won a gold medal before, which is crazy because the Philippines is not a small country. It's like one hundred and fifty million people and they had never won a male gold medal before.
So they're very happy.
Yeah, so the government, and there's a lot of Asian governments that will pay you if you win a gold medal.
I don't no, no know.
If you saw the story about the South Korean golfer, did you see that South Korean golfer's names like J T.
Pan? In South Korea, if you win.
A medal, you don't have to do mandatory military service. So in South Korea you have to if you're a male, serve in the military for three years. Any male unless you win a medal at the Olympics. And he came in fifth, He was in third with two holes to go in came in fifth, and he was crying because it was like now I got to go to boot camp because I.
Didn't do that.
But the Philippines never won a medal, so they gave their gold medal winner.
A batch of prizes. Okay, can I read you the.
Prizes that the Philippines government gave their goal. They gave him a house or five hundred thousand dollars. That's okay, pretty good right there. I would venture to say, a five hundred thousand dollars house in the Philippines.
Pretty nice. I would mention that they gave him two hundred and.
Fifty thousand cash again win win, And then they gave him fifty thousand dollars worth of furniture to furnace house. So now for me, I feel like the government can stop break there.
I think I.
Feel like the government has done a lot for.
Me at that point. Very happy.
But what guess what else? They gave you free ramen noodles for the rest of his life. Wow? Okay, all right?
Like the.
No I think I think he gets.
They gave him free cookies from any restaurant of his choice for the rest.
Of his life.
Restaurants agreed, so he can go into any restaurant and get a cookie and the government will pay for it. I don't know how that works. Now, these are the two I really like. At any Filipino restaurant in the Philippine, At any restaurant the Phippines, it does a buffet. He is allowed to have any buffet for free for the rest of his life.
Oh flashes the gold.
Hey, no, said it had to be a buffet. So he has to go to like number one China buffet. He can't go have.
A regular restaurant. He has to eat a buffet.
And then finally, beginning at age forty, he gets free colonoscopies for the rest of his life.
Wow, well, free buffet and free cookies. He's gonna get fat'll be but pays and cookies his whole life.
So you think the colonoscopy is for that.
Maybe that's helping.
Speaking of which, Ryan, isn't it about time for you again?
I have my first one in a few weeks.
You do.
I've never had one.
I'm I've got mine first, my first one scheduled in like four weeks.
My doctor was like, you're forty five.
Yeah, can we do a lot remote?
We're not doing a live We're not. We're not.
I I made the executive decision. You're the one that does the colonoscopies on the radio. I'm the one that just does it sort of in peace and quiet.
What if Shannon I do a show and you too, do a little side by side. We're not. We're not doing a couple hold hands now, We're not. We're can show you the ropes.
It's not the Bachelor, it's not it's not The Bachelor of Colonies. But I just think it's funny Drew that they would go, are you gonna get a house?
You get money, you get furniture? You know what, Rob and Cook. He's in buffets too, Just do just throw him in there.
I'm wondering if all the restaurants agree to this or they're just bleeding money because he keeps coming to eat at the buffet with his gold medal.
Everybody.
Here's the thing.
I mean, if he takes him up on that, he's not gonna be coming back for the next Olympics.
Oh no, he's not.
That he's done, man uh at all. Cornbredhip dot Com got back on the corn bread this week and sleep has been the best it's been in a while. Cornbreadhip dot com is full spectrum flower only him CBD. Gummy's the strongest formula they've ever made.
Yes, you say that like it's.

Very back. It's kis.
Well done Channon eight five nine twenty two eighty seven. I talked a lot right there. Let's go to the phones. Who's next.
Let's go to Teddy Teddy?
How are you Teddy Teddy? Hello? Can yes? Go ahead? Good? First time callers listener? Who are What's up? So? I kind of have a random question.
So with fantasy football, you could pick a perfect fantasy football.
Team with Stoops players in the Stoops era?
Who would it be?
So you got a quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, tight end.
Is this gonna be a fantasy football team in the Stoops era in the NFL?
Or a fantasy college football team? Fantasy college teams?
You're basically building the perfect So in.
The Stoops era with the college team, I'm not gonna do stats.
Let's just say, who would you want on your team? All right?
So I would want I appreciate the call I would want Will levis right, it's a quarterback to I mean you can tell me I get two running backs, I'm gonna take Chris Rodriguez.
And Benny Snell, right, Like I mean, isn't that who you're gonna take?
You know, Ray Davis at the touchdown record last year.
That's an interesting question. Would you take him over one of those tons of passes catches? Catches go a long way in some fantasy, so you take making one of them.
Let's just say you're building a team to win. Do you want? You want? You want? We're just trying to win games.
I would have Rodriguezerbini, but if we're but if I get two, you take them both?
Right? Yeah?
But r Ray's right there in the conversation, I didn't he didn't come to money.
Tight end? Who we take it?
Wow?
Two tight end? Set? Who we got? I feel like every year we think that it's gonna be a big tight end ye, CJ. Conrad and who because he's one.
Josh Caatis maybe for this coming year, maybe have a big year for him.
I think you probably take what CJ. And Brendan Bates. Yeah. I feel like Baits was still kind of quiet.
But was there anybody in the early Stoop years that was a really good tight end.
None that I'm bates? Is somebody else?
All?
Right? Wide receivers? Are we talking? Lynn Bowden?
Uh?
One Day Dale? And who.
Garrett Johnson as the most underrated Kentucky Wildcat of all time? Juice Johnson, he's high on the receiving lists. I would throw him in that mix.
You got a lot of small guys there, though, you want what you want one big dude. Ryan really wants to say dang key, but he knows he knows he can't yet.
Josh maybe.
Yeah, if he's talking good, you're gonna take wandlle Lynn and I like your Juice Johnson.
That's a good answer.
Okay, who's the let's just who's the Stoops all offensive line? He's had some good sinners he's got all right, so Logan Stenberg, Uh, Drake Jackson, Land and young on there. Who's the guy that played Darren Kennard played forever?
Well?
He was American?
Yeah?
Anybody else? Do we have anybody else? During the Stoops there? That was like unbelievable. They've been so steady as a group. That dude that's Luke Fortner. Sorry, Luke Fortner's definitely on it. Yeah, I mean he's he's playing Luke's on it. So all right, uh, defense, give me your give me your four best defenders.
This dude, Josh Allen, who would just picked that? You know you played for one defense? Gonna be that year? What about this?
All those secondary guys right like Chris west Mike Edwards.
Uh what was it? John?
Like, dude, you could put together you could put together a national championship secondary.
Yeah, what's the other Chris Westree? What was the other guy that played the NFL? Baby?
I mean, think about how many dudes we've had in the NFL in the secondary under the under Mark Stoops.
Even the dude that transferred in and play who's he playing for the Cowboys?
The boss man fast?
And then in linebackers you forget about him because he was early but Avery Williamson.
But dupree, if you go way back, uh, Ars Smith Walker on this team is.
Darius Smith, Josh Allen, and Dion Walker. Stop stop with buddy, Bud dupre Yeah, I mean, so you could put a good, a good group up there.
Who's next, Dennis Dennis? Go ahead, Dennis, Josh Pascal another good one? Yeah?
Hey, by the way, it's good. Good to have you back, mat KSR is not KSR with that you on here. I may not agree with you on everything, but you're still the best on here. No slights to the other folks. But anyway, uh uh. You may not know the answer.
To this, but.
Free Magart I love him. On the Monday Quarterback Show with Tom Leech, is he's going to be doing that this year?
No?
You know Freddy's Well, he was here just a minute ago dealing with some health issues and he will not be on that show this year.
Now, Okay, and one last thing. This may be controversy, but my cocky, but I heard from a former I heard from a.
Kid to play for UK last year on the football team. His dad told me that that Liam Cohen laughed because he could not call the place that he wanted to call.
Yeah, I think that's so. Here's my view on that. I think there's as with everything, I appreciate the call. As with everything, I think the truth is not what is said. I think Liam was able to call pretty much what he wanted with a couple of exceptions in random situations, and then I think when things didn't go great, that was an easy out. In my opinion, I think the first time Liam was here, I think Mark maybe had a little bit more control over I think the second time there might have been a handful of situations that Mark said let's run or whatever, like which head coaches gon do. But Liam ran in my opinion, Ryan, if you disagree, you can tell me. But rheam Liam ran the offense.
I totally think he ran the offense. And I don't know this to be a fact, but I think there was The disconnect was maybe between Liam and the quarterback, not necessarily Liam and Stooped, it was Liam and the quarterback.
And I think at least when he left here, I think Liam and Stoops had a very good relationship. Now I don't know what happened after that or if there if anything happened, maybe nothing did, but I know that when Liam was considering leaving, I talked to both guys quite a bit during that, and I think they both had a great relationship. So I think I have heard that maybe some people who when he got hired by the Bucks and there were some people.
Going, oh, this is this is guys, this is what we want. Then there was kind of like, well he didn't get to do what he wanted to do. I think he got to do what he wanted to do.
It's just he and a quarterback didn't exactly line up. We will take a break. We're gonna have a special guest with us when we returned. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
