Welcome to our two of Kentucky's sports radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now Here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back allur number two Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan Lemon, Shannon the Dude, and Super Mario Maitland. Here's we're live at Chaos Bar and Grill where we're getting ready to they're filing in. They've been showing the video the lead in of the UK baseball game getting ready to play Florida in the elimination game out the College Baseball World Series. The Blue showed up. Mario, looks like we did.
I'm missing my pink fuzzy hat and and you're missing your blue mustache.
Well, you know, Drew's got a pink fuzzy hat he was wearing on the beach down and in Florida.
Of course he does.
So, so he's ready to go. So we're gonna we can't broadcast the game live or tell you what's happening live, right Shanning for broadcasting right point, We kind of react to things that happened.
That's right. We can do score updates and stuff like that, which.
We'll we'll definitely do that after every inning, kind of tell you what's going on or what the situation is. So so kind of hang with us for everybody that tuned in over here to listen to us, to hang with us. We appreciate it very much. And we got to start with our our county countdown of the counties. Taylor County, Taylor County, you're up. You just got called up from Triple A to the big leagues of your active duty Taylor County, Kentucky. So Mario, you go first. What is your fun fact you guys about Taylor County.
Well, I know that a good buddy of yours is a Campbellsville University alum, Miss Nancy Cox.
I know she's alum from from Campbellsville University.
And then I know Fourth of July is coming up, and I saw that they're gonna be having jets over Kentucky, which is gonna be at Taylor's County Airport. Pilots from all over the world are gonna be flying and doing their special stunts.
So if you want to go check that out, and that's coming up.
Well, see two things. One, I didn't know Campbellsville had an airport, So Campbellsville's airport Taylor County Airport, how about that? And Nancy Cox, Yeah, she's like she's like my sister. We worked together Channel eighteen. I was there for twelve years. She just got married.
I love the way we talk about this all the time.
You say channel eighteen, and I'm so used to hearing lex Lax at eighteen.
Yeah. Well, back in the day you identified the station by the channel Channel twenty seven, channel thirty six, Channel eighteen.
Our ages are definitely showing up.
Yeah. Nancy was also a former Miss Kentucky, like back in the nineties. She was Miss Kentucky. Yes, before she became a news anchor. So, but I'm super happy for her, proud of her. She just got married. So, Shannon, what do you got for Taylor County for us?
Well, do you know who Taylor County was named after?
Let me think I.
Have an idea.
Oh, I bet it's I bet it's something to do with Zachary Taylor.
Aah.
There you go.
Yeah, the United States former president.
I say, yeah, an American military leader, zach Taylor. So that's who it's named after. H Taylor County also is shaped like a heart. Did you realize that, Ryan?
Wow, that was one of my shit like.
A heart and claims to be the center of Kentucky. Now they claim to be. I feel like we could figure this out, like, we've got tools that can actually tell you exactly where the center of Kentucky is. Yeah, I don't feel like when it comes to something like that, you can claim to be you either are or you're not. So how can it be possible that they can claim that? But we don't have proof as to whether or not that's true.
That's a where'd you come up with that? That was a good fact? There's the county's actually shaped like a heart. That's very cool.
So I just like that it could claim to be the heart of Kentucky, heart.
Of Kentucky because there it is. If you look at it, it is kind of shape like a heart.
You know.
Now I feel bad my facts weren't as good as your guys.
Well, I don't know if it's technically the heart of Kentucky and the center Kentucky, but I like the fact that they're going to say they are. Shaan. You love it when teams, when schools do that.
Well, there's a lot of places that claim to be this or that.
You know, this capital of the world, that capital of the world, whatever it may be. You know, they can say they invented certain things, but when it comes to something that's a geographic location.
I mean, we have these things called.
Maps and atlases, and there's like a way that you could actually tell if.
Something is the center or not. So I don't. I don't think when it comes to a geographic location.
You can claim one thing or another without it being factually proven to be true or not.
You're looking up to see if it looks like a heart, I am it does? It definitely looks like a heart right there in Kentucky. You got some more for Shaners.
That it well, yeah, I went just a little fun fact.
Uh.
You know, before I committed to Lindsay Wilson, I did go to Campbellsville for a little visit.
And uh Campbellsville University.
Yeah, Campbellsville University cafeteria. It was not impressed with the.
Here's one thing, Ryan, I don't know if people realize this, the cafeteria at Lindsay Wilson is top notch. You walk in there, it's like going to like uh like like Jeff Rubies or something. Okay, it's not that great, but but it is like really good, uh for for a college student. You know, their cafeteria is pretty impressive. I go to Campbellsville and they're serving up like nachos. Like I'm not talking about like chicken nachos with all the good stuff mixed in. It was like like concession stand nachos.
I don't know if I could. I don't know if I can do four years here at Campbellsville.
You don't like the concession sta. I actually like the concessions thing. Nachos.
No, no, in a pinch at a ball game, nachos perfect. I love them, But I'm talking about I don't want to have that for lunch every day. If I'm going to school at your university, you got to come strong with something better than chips and cheese for me. Uh So I was like, eh no, no, let's let's go maybe do a couple of other visits before we make this commitment.
So Shannon, I got to ask you, what were what was you growing up in high school?
What was the school lunch for you?
What was it?
Oh, school lunch in high school?
And it was like everybody says square pizza, it was actually rectangle pizza, rectangle, So you had I never understood this combination. Okay, this was every Monday rectangle pizza, corn yes and chocolate mill, chocolate mill?
What? What?
What about that even goes together? Like, have you ever in your life since high school said, you know what I want to do today, I'm gonna go get a nice lunch. I want some square, some rectangle pizza, some corn, and chocolate milk?
Are none of that?
That's a hodgepodge of things thrown together.
That was like the thing that stood out to me the most about high school lunch, the eigeh combination.
I'm glad to hear that things haven't really changed much from my time from your time.
That is the standard lunch of a good mean.
How does corn and pizza set aside of chocolate? Yeah, set aside, set aside the chocolate milk. Corn and pizza never goes together in any circumstance.
Did you get the fruit cup too? You gotta get the fruit brick cup?
Yeah?
Yeah.
And then you know, if you were lucky with they throw in some of those French fries, we get French fries and pizza, which again is a weird thing.
It just felt like we were it was always pizza.
And then of course you wouldn't get hamburgers, you'd get soy burgers.
You know it wasn't even real. It was like soy, Yeah.
The burgers were never very good. Pizza was always the best.
Yeah.
So anyway, that that was about high school exp But anyway back to Taylor County, Ryan, Yes, what are your Taylor County facts?
Ryan?
Well know, I was just there Friday night. Josiah went to a camp at Campbellsville University Friday night. So got to see Campblonsville.
Chips.
No, didn't get any of that. But their their football stadium now is really nice. They've got an awesome like sweet and press box at the football stadium over there. Uh, Kentucky West, we used to play there every year. Did you guys play there every year? Play Campbellsville? Shannon?
Oh yeah, I mean we beat them, like, I mean, just dominated them every time we played them. So I'm glad I didn't go to Campbellsville.
And you know, I've played left field primarily, and they've got there's a dorm right down the left field line. I mean there were people would always be looking out their window watching us play baseball right there. That's really close to the down the left field line down there. But uh, Campbellsville, I got a couple of fun facts here for uh there. Campbellsville is the home of Campbellsville Industries. And you may ask what is that. Well, they're known as the steeple people. Campbellsville Industry is the oldest and largest steeple and tower manufacturer in the United States. They have over fifteen thousand installations located across the United States and Canada. And they claim they have the record for the world's largest prefabricated church steeple that is in Huntsville, Alabama.
Again, I claiming things that can be measured. We can see looking like, look at all the measurements and all the heights of all the steeples in the world, and we can see if that's true or not.
Can just claim that.
Well, they're claiming it, and I believe them. The steep wi You don't we call the steak of anything for nothing?
Steeple people.
I got people, A couple of athletes I want to talk about before I get to my last time fast. You were talking about this here, you know, being the fact today is juneteenth. This is perfect because Clem Haskins is from Campbellsville. He was the first black basketball player at Taylor County High School. I think maybe the first black athlete at Taylor County High School, first black basketball player at Western Kentucky University. He ended up coaching Western Kentucky University, coached the University of Minnesota. His brother is Marion Haskins, who is one of the first black basketball players at the University of Kentucky. So they they helped integrate several programs there, the Haskins brothers, and I think that's huge, huge Juneteenth, that's perfect timing for today. So I know Clem Haskins still lives down in Campbellsville, has a tobacco farm. You see him as on his tractor all the time down there at his tobacco farm. This great man, this legend, this titan of a man. Uh that as far as Kentucky basketball and Western Kentucky especially, I know his daughter played at Western Kentucky, was a great player there also, So the Haskins family definitely big time when it comes to Campbellsville and Taylor County.
You did your research, you did your research.
Got another one, JB. Holmes. Shannon you know, used to go by John Holmes, but when he got on the PGA tour, they decided a little better every ready to go by JB. Holmes. He's won several times on the PGA Tour. Or he just picked off, Oh, they just picked off Ryan Waltzman off first base for the ball the throat is second hit him in the back, So he's now Kentucky has a runner at second with two outs right now. But yeah, JB. Holmes, one of the best Kentucky golfers ever played at Taylor County and then went to UK still on the PGA Tour, so he's also from Taylor County. Here's my last fun fact. I think Channel will like this the best.
Okay, let's here.
Campbellsville is the home to the last Druthers restaurant.
Yeah, that was one of mine that I told you about yesterday. I love Druthers us.
Tell me more about what's this drug drugs that I'm here.
It's kind of a close to Lee's famous recipe fri chicken cut. A lot of kind of chickens their thing.
I don't know what happened to Druthers.
They were always so good, they had really good chicken, and then it seemed like all the drugs turned into dairy Queen's.
I don't know why.
Well, you're right, and before drugs they were all Burger Queens.
Burger Queen.
This restaurant in Campbellsville used to be a Burger Queen. And after we would play Campbellsville, that's where our coach would take us Burger Queen to Burger Queen. How was the customer service there? Oh, top notch, always the best?
Did they have like the cherry syrup that you want it? You know?
Well?
I don't remember, but I do remember one story where we didn't play very well. Oh, Kentucky's gonna score.
Here we go, Here we go, Here we go.
Here we go.
Base hit. Walt Smith scores from second. So that air of them trying to pick him off and throwing it and hit him in the back ends up costing Florida. So Kentucky's up one to nothing.
Here at the top, start off right, starting off on a good note. I love to see it.
So after we played Campbellsville one double header sham, we played so poorly, our coach took us to Burger Queen there in Campbellsville and made us all by I'm not kidding you, kitty meals, I am one dead serious. That is a true story.
Its an old school baseball coach right there.
Yep. I don't think you can get.
Away with doing stuff like that anymore.
Kitty meals and one about one of our players was so mad he was ready to fight my coach.
No o, they he was ready to fight.
Because you know, you eat at seven o'clock in the morning, get on a van drive to play two games. You don't eating until eight o'clock. And he was gonna give his kiddie meals from the Burger queen in Campbellsville.
That's not right.
You had to you get like the little extra small fry, miniature sized burgers.
Little box juice juice box.
You gotta hydrate to Oh it's awful.
Cruel enough.
Yeah, now I can tell you Campbellsville like staying in Columbia. You know Lindsay Wilson. That's where Columbia, Uh, Columbia is where Lindsay Wilson is. Driving from Columbia to Campbellsville was the big highlight because they actually.
Had a Walmart in Campbellsville.
Like at night when we get bored and there's nothing going on, Hey man, you want to go over to Walmart and look around. See what they got in the Sporting good section that and then they had a crystals you know what crystals are though, Oh yeah, they had a crystals there. So that was like the big attraction from uh for everybody in Columbia to drive to Campbellsville to go look around the Walmart and get some crystal bird.
That was todd notch entertainment back then.
You know, Campbellsville, there's always there's always a tie. Like you know, Travis Ford one time used to coach, started his coaching career at Campbellsville. Yeah. Gary Gupton, who's a longtime media guy in this state, you tell me about that. He's from Campbellsville. Max Wise, who's a politician in Kentucky, He's from Campbellsville. So there's a lot of people we've talked about over the year, Taylor, all of Taylor County, Campbellsville. So so I guess that's gonna wrap it up for Taylor County. So guess who's on deck? Todd Todd County, Todd County, you're Elkton, You're you're up. We'll do it tomorrow.
Okay, we could definitely do that. Is there a city in Todd County.
That Elkton, Elton, Elkton e l k t O in Elkton's in Todd County. So, yeah, we have another surprise pop up show tomorrow that I'm really excited.
This is gonna be good. I'm excited for I'm.
Very excited for this one. So Shannon, I think we should go ahead and schedule Todd County for tomorrow.
Okay, And I was wondering, like, we're not gonna say where this pop up is going to be, because I mean, then it wouldn't be a pop up if we told you.
And might not be a good choice.
Wondering though, Uh, you know, this is gonna be a little bit different from all the other pop up shows that we do. Will listeners be allowed to show up at this pop up place tomorrow?
That's a great question, Shannon.
We're gonna get addressed tomorrow. I'm just I'm just wandering out loud.
Yeah, think about it, Ryan, think about it.
We'll we'll we'll play it by ear and we'll see how it goes. Okay, as we go to the bottom of the first Kentucky's up one to nothing over for it, all right, We'll take our break. We want to hear from you if you're calling, if you're watching the baseball game and listening to us, thank you very much. You can give us a call. Eight five nine two eighth two to eight seven. It's eight five nine tweet. Oh catch at the Clarks Puppetshop phone number, Ryan Mariol and Shannon. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky's Ports Radio. Yeah, this is Hooting the Blowfish. Dude, this is great music. You've got to You've got to learn about Hooting the Blowfish.
I've never heard of this one.
Welcome back, Ryan Mariol and Shannon the dude. Eight five nine two aight, oh, two to eight seven. That's our phone number. We're gonna get a couple halls we got right now. But I do we do need to mention that Hall of Famer Willie Mays died ninety three years old.
You were telling me about him off air.
I mean he was, he was a superstar. He left playing baseball, one of those guys to go join the military during his prime of his baseball career. Or he may he could have been the home run leader when he retired. He had over five hundred home runs. He probably could have hid at least another couple hundred if he hadn't, you know, joined the military. Just you know a guy when I was growing up, Shannon, he was he was a legend. You know, he was a rock star.
Yeah.
You think about that legendary catch, you know, over the shoulder.
Uh, maybe the best catching baseball history.
That's right.
Yeah, you still see it replayed to this day. And it was really sad to hear that news. I mean, a guy that, like you said, a legend in every sense of the word, you know, every since of the meaning legend of the hit over three hundred for a career. I mean, that's just unbelievable numbers that he was able to put up. You're right, if he were to stay and play throughout, you know, the prime of his career, he would have very likely been the home run leader probably.
So rest what's been going on, man?
Yeah, Jerry West, Bill Walton.
Yeah, yeah, my idols growing up slowly losing them all right, Uh, Florida has two guys on. Nobody out here in the bottom of the person will keep up to it. But let's go to a phone call, Shann who we got Robbie, Robbie, go ahead, Robbie.
Hey, guys, I'm listening to you guys while I'm playing a few beans here and uhy' were talking about pizza and uh, back back when I was in school, the square was pizza day and the rectangle was fiastada day, and they had the corn too, and and uh, several kids used to put the corn on the on the fiastada. Now you tell me, I don't know.
I have never done that.
No, no, what what is he? A piastada?
I don't know what a.
Fist f with a fiata.
I still don't what that is.
I'm not sure what it is. Rectangle pizza something that sounded like he was saying, oh huh, like.
A Mexican pizza.
Okay, okay, okay, well we appreciate it. I I'm not familiar with it. But I definitely didn't put corn on my pizza in school.
Yeah, so I thought that was just my school being weird.
But you're telling me that, like everybody had square pizza in corn Mario pizza.
That's all right, we see it. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah, So all right, there's a vote called eight five nine, eight two two et seven? Who's next? Shannon?
Wayne?
Wayne?
Go ahead, Wayne, thank you for playing my call mine appreciate Wayne Marion Askins. He was also he was on that championship seventy eight championship team that you all talked to those guys about.
You know, I should have mentioned that, you should have mentioned that, You're right, absolutely right. Marion Haskins was a champion as well.
There was one guy from Platter County that ever played baseball at the Universe of Kentucky. It's my big time to give him to the recognition. It's a young fellow named Adam Yankee Spell just like the like the New York Yankees. He played. He graduated Taylor County in nineteen eighty one. He played short stop one of the better one of the better teams that Taylor County had had at that time. I had a couple of boys that pitched on that team. But anyway, uh, he he's uh, he's having some health problems right now.
He's out.
He lives out. He lives out in Manhattan, Kansas. And he played on you He graduated eighty one. He played on the UK teams. It was about eighty four eighty five. He was not a sports They didn't put as much tempts on base back then.
So are you calling from Are you calling from Taylor County?
I'm calling from Taylor County. I loved two miles. I live two miles from that walmart that.
The famous ward Wayne. We appreciate it, man, thank you for the phone call we got.
I'm not I'm not finished. Uh oh, go ahead, So I'm not finished. Some mother, I don't know. There's never been a person played football that they played. They played the football at Taylor Gun in high school. But there will be this fall. Hey, Johnson will be as far as I know. Was the first football player. You're all right there, But now there was I know three that played ball at Campbellsville High that played.
The u K.
Rodney Styles, Uh, Charlie Vaughn and some of my Rodney was in the UK. He was in the athletic department.
Oh yeah, I know Rodney Styles. Yeah, I didn't know he was a Campbellsville guy. So we appreciate we got. We gotta go Wayne. We appreciate it. Thank you. Uh, I know Rodney Style. He was in the UK administration. But yeah, shame we forgot about our boy, Hayes Johnson. He's a Taylor Johnny guy.
Didn't he have like a career day or something when he called in. But was that uh, it.
Was it was whatever they call. They gave him permission to skip school to go like hunting or something, go hunting. He was gonna go duck hunting, skip school to go duck hunting.
Yeah. I don't know about you, Ryman.
When I went to school, you didn't have days where you just go out and go hunt and get an excused absence.
Well, when you're the big football star and you've simon Kentucky, you probably got a little power walking around the school. But yeah, Hayes Johnson will be coming to Kentucky next year as an offensive lineman from Taylor County High School. I heard they've been looking at him, maybe a guard or even center. I heard there may be move him to be a center cool in the years ahead.
Yeah, so's So, what's the update on our baseball game right now?
Florida just tied it one to one and they've got runners A's second and third and just one out and Campbell Brian already warming up into bullpen. So there's just one out? Uh neemic Neemenic Nyman to Nyman, Dominic Nyaman. I combined the two names. Dominic Nyman is having a little trouble here. He's got one out and guys are two runners in scoring position already.
Well, I think that's gonna be key.
I mean, especially if you win, uh this first game you had to play later on. You don't want to get into your bullpen too early. So hopefully he'll be able to stave off whatever heads.
Oh yeah, so it looks like Florida's gonna put a couple more runs on the board. One more run on the board, so Florida's now had two to two runs, three to one. Still early the bottom of the first Florida's up three to one. I hear the wind getting sucked out of the pass bar and grill right now. It's amazing all that excitement we had kind of getting sucked out. So all right, eight five nine two two two eight seven that's our Clarks Puppets out phone number. We're gonna effort Tyler Ulyss when we come back. Shannon has had text communication with him, but he just got off a plane here in Lexington, so I guess he's got to go through security, and not security because he's luggage baggage. But if we can get ahold of Tyler, you Wis. We're gonna talk to him. He's the new head coach of the TBT Love Familiar team.
Look at that, Ryan, new head coach.
How about that? So we'll talk to Tyler lyss as well and Matt. We gotta tell you the story about Matt yesterday and Frankfurt, Germany. It's he was like a when he called. He called me from Frankfurt, Germany to tell me this story. He was like a little kid. He was so coffy and so excited.
Yes, me, I missed your call, and you go, I'll just tell it on the show tomorrow.
So tell the story about Matt. We come back here on Hooting the Blowfish Day on Kentucky Sports Radio.
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.
He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan Mario and Shannon the Dude. Here is Kentucky baseball already down three to one in the bottom of the first inning to Florida out of the College Baseball World Series, and Kentucky's making a pitching change right now as well. So the starting pitcher, mister Neeman didn't get out of the first inning. Chan, They've already got to go to the bullpen and get Cammel Bryan.
Yeah, and then if they win this first game, it's going to be a long day for the bullpen going into the next game if they can get by Florida.
All right, joining us now, we're gonna switch gears a little bit and talk to one of the best fan favorites in the history of UK basketball. There is no argument this guy is one of the best fan favorites ever to play the Blue and White Kentucky. Mister Tyler Ulis who just got off of plane here in Lexton. Tyler, how are you, man?
I'm good? How are you good?
Welcome back to Lexton? Are you flying around now? Are you coming back? Gonna be the head coach of the TBT guys love to me this summer?
How about that?
Yeah? I'm excited, man, Finally got to let you guys know about it. That's been works for you know, but wow, now I can't wait.
You've already got a lot of familiar names on that roster, so I'm sure that's kind of gonna be a fun experience for you.
I'm sorry I couldn't hear you.
I say, it's probably gonna be a really fun experience for you because you know a lot of those guys, even former teammates from on that roster.
Yeah, yeah, great experience of these guys I played with in college, guys I played with pros. Hopefully we get a couple more guys. You know, some of those guys are my bets, so you know, I haven't seen them in years, So it'll be good for us to get back around each other, you know, have some fun and try to win some games.
Man, Tyler, you talked about how you played with some of these guys already, and now you're you're coaching. You've been coaching for a few years now. What's the transition been like for you from playing in a Kentucky Wildcats jersey to now coaching.
It's isn't really fast for me, but you know, the staff that I've been with the last few years has helped me through a lot, give me a lot of leeway and you know, giving me a lot of you know, responsibility and respect as a player and coach. And you know, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've changed over really fast. I didn't want to waste much time, got back in school, you know, once to start, you know, helping the new generation of guys. And you know, like I said, this is going to be a lot of fun seeing these guys in a different light. Hopefully they they're able to take direction from you because you know it's a little different now. But yeah, it'll be a lot of fun and I can't wait.
You know, Mario's right, in your two seasons on the Kentucky bench, we kind of saw you grow as a coach, and you saw your coach Cal giving you a lot of credit and a lot of praise for the way you handled especially the guards, the guard of the last two years. So obviously that's something you you kind of thribed in in that position.
Oh for sure. You know, I definitely have a new respect for coaches and the things they do in the daily essues and just learning from those guys, Cal Chen, all those guys. That's been great for me, and you know, I can't wait to keep it going.
So, Tyler, you talked about, you know, learning from guys like like coach Coach Coleman and coach Cal What are some things that you've learned from just being around them and the kind of you know, learning from their coaching perspective.
I mean it's just as a you know, player, you usually think you're busy, but you know when you get onto the other guys named coaches, those guys are literally coach cal up at five in the morning thinking about things. Chin is watching numerous amount of films. So you know, those guys showing me how much they put into it. You know kind of how much they put into the kids, and you know just how much they losing time from their families and things like that. You know a lot of goes into this, a lot of time, a lot of hours, and you know they put in the work.
Now, we're gonna be out there Wednesday for the bracket reveal for the TVT but it should be a fun time at rupp Arena with a lot of the familiar guys on the team. By the way, Florida just hit a grand Slam. That's not good, seven to one already the first inning.
We're watching the game keeping up with you, so that's not good.
So we'll be there for the bracket reveal, and I think once people realize, they'll kind of, you know, they just love basketball. In this town, they'll rally around your team. You're a lot familiar team and really support them. I think a lot by coming to the games.
Yeah, for sure, I definitely believe the fans will come out. I think not a lot of people know too much about the TVT yet. You know, as the week start to go, you know, hopefully we get some people out there and there are a lot of guys rough and win some games.
So Tyler, I want to dig a little bit deeper into your coaching perspective on it.
It's very early.
You guys haven't even really got the team together yet, and you know, got to go through the first round the practices and all.
That good stuff. But what will it look like at.
You being the the in the forefront of everything and being the coach, What would the style of play look like? What can fans expect from the style of play from this lot familiar squad.
We obviously want to play fast. I want to play how we played before, you know, lives, getting up and down the court, you know, play hard. Uh, you know, I feel like this setting is just about you know, coming in and playing hard because these guys are coming in, you know, trying to make a name for themselves, get contracts overseas, or get back into the NBA. So I think the main goal is just playing hard. They're pros, so you know they're they're going to bring a professional attitude. Understand that. You know, these guys are trying to win you know, a good amount of money for themselves. So yeah, I feel like, you know, as long as we play hard, I feel like everything go work itself out. Yeah.
I don't want to put you on the spot, but is it beneficial? Are you joining CAL staff at Arkansas?
Yes, I will be joining CAL.
Okay, I knew that report was out there, but I don't think it was confirmed. I thought, well, I just want to make sure. So so after this run, I guess you'll have to just go straight back to Arkansas and start working on the staff over there.
So I'm actually still around a little because I'm still in school. Everyone's first kind of jumping the gun, but I still have to have to graduate, so that that's kind of what I'm I see. So you know, I have a few more credits left and then I'll go from there.
So Tyler, I've talked to a few good amount of players that play for CAL, and you know, I want to kind of hear from you and your perspective.
What's the relationship.
I know you still have love for Cal, but can you kind of explain that you're still You're still have love for Kentucky. This is a this is a fan base that you played for as well, and you you've won SEC championships here and what can you explain the dynamics of the relationship. I know Cal's not here, but of course you're still have that love for BBN.
Oh for sure. You know this is uh, you know, obviously it started with coach Kyle, but this is where I played. This is where you know, I kind of made my name. The fans have showed a lot of love over the years. You know I love them as well, So you know this is still you know somewhere will always love and you know root for these guys. But you know, me and Coach Cal. You know Coach Cayle's family. He's done a lot for me personally on the court, off the court, and you know, I feel like, you know, just like I said, those are that's my staff. So you know, it's kind of like switching up on your on your team, you know, So those guys just learning from them. I'm comfortable with them. I just feel like they have my back just as well as Kentucky has my back. To the fans, you know, nothing changed, My love doesn't change. It's just I feel like what's best right now for my career and you know, coach, you know, kind of the best situation.
For me, you know, Ran.
You know what, what's not talked about a lot about Cayl what's that is that he changes.
It's more than basketball.
That's true, That's very true. That's right when Tyler, when you had your wreck, Kyle was one of the first ones to come see you, you know, in the hospital. I remember seeing those those reports about that. So he does he cares about these guys.
It doesn't get talked about a lot. It doesn't get talked about.
Yeah, he definitely. He definitely cares about his players. That's why you see guys like the Marcus and those guys you know talk about him how they do, because he's always cared. He's always put us first. And you know, even though you know, most kids dream of going to the NBA. So you know, when you get a coach like that, you know, obviously along the way you want to win. When you get a coach like that, he was pushing your dreams first. You know, it's always good for you and your family.
Well, Tyler Man, we appreciate it. Welcome back to Lexton for the short stint, and you know, like I said, a lot of fans will probably come down and watch you guys play as the momentum builds with this team, the TVT team all full Kentucky, former Kentucky Wildcats and coach by one of the one of the fan favorites, Tyler you lis So man, best of luck to you and thanks for joining us.
Thank you, thanks for having me all.
Right, Tyler you lys He said he was your favorite player, favorite man. He's one of mine.
Man.
I mean, you know, if I'm a little guy, the things he could do as a little guy just made you love him so tough pound for pound, maybe the toughest toughest player ever to play Kentucky.
Skilled, skilled small golf yep, really good and pick and roll situations, can shoot it, I mean a leader leader. Yeah, he's played with great pacey Yeah, didn't look fast, but.
He was fast.
So Shannon during that great interview with Tyler Elis Kentucky Baseball still not out of the first inning. We started in the first when we just got strike three, finally got out of the first inning, Kentucky down seven to one.
Well, we're talked about it being a big hill to climb just starting the game, you know, having to play two games, possibly in one day. It looks like just getting out of the first inning was a tough challenge.
Yeah, camme ol Brian came in and gave up a grand slam after it was already three to one. All just barely over the fence too.
Wow.
Yeah, still a lot of baseball to play, a.
Lot of baseball. The A Vision Glass text machine five O two seven, three, five, three six eight. Oh, got a couple I want to tell you about. First one, Adolph RUPs Farm was on Russell Cave Road, actually in Bourbon County, So you go up Russell Cave Road on the north side into Bourbon County, that's where it was. And this one and another one on the A Vision Glass text machine. I agree with Shannon on the Campbellsville University cafeteria. I went to Campbellsville University in early two thousands. It was terrible, but they did build a new dining hall about counter fifteen years ago and is now much better. We'll shout out at Campbellsville University.
I can only you know, speak to my experience.
All right.
I'm not saying like it's not good now.
I'm saying back in two thousand, two thousand and one.
Not great, not great, needed some work.
Eight five nine two eight h two two eighty seven. We'll take a kind of an early break right here, and we have one more segment to go. It's Kentucky baseball now has a big hill to climb down seven to one after the first inning, or at the College Baseball World Series. Ryan, Marlin Shannon will tell you what Matt was so excited about. We come back on Kentucky Sports Radio. All right, welcome back. It's a little more various rucord for you here on Kentucky's Sports Radio. Ryan and Mario and Shannon the dude.
I thought we were switching it back to your guy.
He's both. He does. He's a country music star, but he used to be lead singer for HOODI in the Blowfish.
Yeah and okay, okay, I'm learning a lot today.
Uh, We've got to mention about Taylor County and Campbellsville This is from the Avision Glass Tex Machine. Anthony Epps is now the new boys basketball coach at Campbellsville High School.
Shout out Anthony good good friends with their entire family.
So shout out to the EPs family.
Totally forgot to mention, we should have been tell you y you're good friends with his friend with his son son. It was here for a show. Also on the Avision Glass text Machine, Shannon is preaching the truth about the Lindsay Wilson Cafeteria. Also, I'd put it up against any cafeteria. I used to be a banker in Columbia and I would eat at their cafeteria for lunch all the time.
Yeah, yeah, that's the thing people, Yeah, oh yeah. That was not uncommon for people who weren't even students there. They would come in for lunch or dinner just because the food was that that good.
That's how you know, how you know it's good when you come well.
Well, So the Lindsay Wilson Cafeteria Shannon gets thumbs up. Campbellsville University Cafeteria Shannon gives thumbs down.
Yep.
But again though maybe now in twenty twenty four, Campbellsville has finally come up to Lindsay Wilson standards.
We we're definitely gonna have to take a visit if we have a remote down there sometime.
Hopefully we can take a visit. See what Campbellsville cafeteria looks like.
Now hopefully more than not chosen.
Geez, here here's one more. I want to give this one all the avis the last text machine. I'm really impressed with Mario's interview ability. Yeah, ever retires, KSR will be in good hands. Keep slaying it, young man.
Who you know who said that?
Mister Texter person, Thank you.
Mister Texter person.
We'll give that our Kentucky branded text of the day. How about the means alive to me? All right? So Matt, speaking of Mat, he called yesterday. I'm sitting at the table and my phone and it's mad like, oh my gosh, one ring you picked up? Oh yeah, kind of scared like, oh why why is he calling? You know, you might think something.
Bad.
And he's he's giddy, he's laughing, he's giddy. He's so excited. And Shannon, what had happened? He was in Frankfurt, Germany, walking the streets of Frankfurt, Germany, looking for a place to eat. Okay, do we lose Shannon? Oh, okay, I thought we lost it for a second. So he's in Frankfurt, Germany thinking he's looking for a place to eat, and he sees all these people dressed in like black with chains and boots sound and they're all kind of walking in mass to a certain area. So he's thinking, what in the world is going on because this is not in downtown Frankfort, Germany. This is kind of like maybe out in the suburbs, a little bit out of town. So he kind of follows them arong, like where are all these people going? What is the deal here? Ask somebody Shannon. They're all going to a five Finger Death Punch concert in Frankfurt, Germany.
That is awesome.
Matt gets super excited. Yeah. Calls Chris Kale, who is the bass player for five Finger Death Punch, who's from Lexington, went to Lafayette, listens to our show, has been on this show. Chris Kele answers the phone, like, what are you doing. I'm in frank for Germany. Well, I'm in frank for Germany.
I know.
So anyway, Chris kel got him some tickets. Shannon and he went to the Five Finger Death post concert was rocket.
That is hard to believe it. I know, you know, we have Chris Kel, as you said, friend of the show. But Matt Jones at a Five Finger Death Punch concert is not something that I thought I would hear.
I mean, those guys they're pretty heavy.
They're heavy heavy, They're not exactly Matt's style of music.
Did you see Matt in there just mopping his head?
Not really, not really, No, That's why it's that's really bizarre.
It's definitely not Matt's crowd.
No music.
Just the experience of it to going to a concert like that of American guys and you know, one of them up on stage, I think would make it kind of cool, whether you like the music or not.
Yeah, yeah, I would. I would pay to see that. That's definitely interesting.
Because he went to the uh uh Tyler Childer's concert. Was that like in Belgium or somewhere one year? Remember? And so uh so Chris Kel they talked. I think they met after the Oh yeah, Matt posted a picture of him and Chris Kel. They met after the show.
I saw the picture and I also saw I don't know. I want to say it was his story, but he had some pretty It looked full in there.
It looked packed, he said, it was packed.
It seems like other countries that you know, that don't speak our language, they embrace our music more so than maybe we embraced there.
Because you think about, like, why is that?
I don't know, Like there are some bands that are like like I think Romstein is how you say they're like a I think they're from Germany. They're they kind of got, you know, some popularity here in the United States. But you see a lot of our bands go over there, and even though they probably don't even know the words or don't speak the language, at least they seem to be more receptive to our music than we are of theirs.
Is am I the only one that notices that.
No, I think you're right. You think that's why a lot of bands start their worldwide tours overseas in Europe to get the momentum before they come back to the United States. I think Shannity exactly right. Oh, we just got a couple of man's. But you do want to give a little shout out there, Buddy dick by Towel.
My favorite commentator college basketball.
You know, Dick used to come on this show a lot, him and mad or you know talk. He would even drop MAT's name during the UK broadcast, Oh my buddy, during Typton Matt Jones impressions, and Mario says he does a great dick by Towel impersonation. And by the way, he says he's cancer free. Yeah, that's why we're getting a little shout out. That's great.
Now, hold on, you're telling me, Mario, you do a great dick bato.
He says, he does a good dick by towel.
I've been working on it. Okay, it's been it might be a little rusty. I haven't pulled it out in the wild.
Okay.
And you said great, Now I'm acting great, not not just you know. All right, let's hear it.
Let's see how to rank me from from A to F. Okay, alright, here we go, ladies and gentlemen, we're here here for college basketball. We got a whole bunch of diper dandies in the building. Oh, look at this place. Look at this place.
It's amazing all these Kentucky fans, Big Blue Nation has showed up.
Was that shit?
That's not not horrible?
It's not not horrible, not bad.
I'm not gonna give you an A, but I'm gonna give you like maybe a B, maybe.
A B plus. I would it's it's good. I wouldn't say great, but good it is. It is good.
Okay, I was in the sea range, but I'll take a be.
I give you a B plus. Also, you got the crowd counting behind you a little bit and start clapping and get you into it. So so big shout out to our friend Dick Mittel, who's now said he's he has cancer free. Hope he's back at the game. Maybe that we can seem Repperena this winter would be so cool. I'm sure he would enjoy every mining of it. So listen, we're gonna stay here for the watch party. Here UK baseball. They they can come back. It's only seven to one the second inning. There's a lot of baseball left, Shannon, There's all kinds of chances coming up. Yeah, I'll go back in his game.
Kentucky's offense can break out at any minute. True, I mean I still feel okay. I mean, it's not obviously not the way you want to start off down seven to one, but like you said, there's still a ton of baseball to be played, so we'll be hopeful.
That the cast can make a comeback today and.
If they win or whin they come back and win, they will play Texas A and M tonight at seven o'clock. So come on back again for this one or state or just stay the whole day. David Bryant here is probably gonna stay here all day and I just sitting at chat right there. So, uh, Thursday night, Tomorrow night, we have UK Trivia. It may be going on the same time as another UK baseball game if that's okay, okay, well we'll just speak it into.
An existance, speaking into the existence Ryan.
So if they win to today, they may still play again, I think Thursday night. So we may have to postpone trivia, but right now we have UK Trivia. We don't do it very often. UK Trivia posting starting at seven o'clock Thursday night.
I can't wait to hear you questions, man. I want to see how the level of difficulty in your questions. What is it gonna look like?
It won't be it's not super hard, but you know, we try to get him some questions that you talk about with your group at the table. Cool, you know, so that's what we're talking about, so listen. Our big thanks to Jasper Johnson. Bruh Johnson. He was great. I mean he really was a great job, awesome dude. The dude is a budding superstar star just making a big splash. And also thanks to Tyler Yulis who joined us after just landing at the airports. We appreciate that. So Kentucky's got a lot of baseball to play. They're down seven to one, boom the second. Ind We appreciate everybody who turned over to listeners the show. Thank you, Mario, thanks sharing the Dude. All right, We'll be back tomorrow on a live pop up show a Kentucky sports radio
