Welcome to two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Here's my re Metcalf hour two, filling in on Mondays. Mary mondays, we're gonna call him this off season. We got some calls obviously, everybody excited about the Baseball Super Regional. I got a col question. We can get to all that, but I want to give y'all some more Al Green insight. Okay, because I was saying throughout the show, if you got a problem, right, fellas, you can consult al Green. Right. Here's how he opens. I'm still in love with you. Okay, here, just the lyrics again. You don't have to do anything on your own. All you gotta do is write down the Al Green lyrics and he will take care of everything for you. Okay, okay. He starts out by saying, spending my day thinking about you girl, being here with you, being near with you. I can't explain myself why I feel like I do, though it hurts me so to let you know that, I look in your eyes, to let me know how you feel, let me know that love is really real. Well, it seems to me that I'm wrapped up in your love. Like if you just say that to somebody in your life, somebody special, somebody you want to be special in your life and you don't say another thing. You can text that verbatim and not even say another word. And I'm telling you, I'm telling you the response will be positive. Right, So, if you don't get anything else out of this show, just to understand that Al Green is here to help. How powerful was that lyric? Did y'all hear that?
I'm gonna copy and patient right now? What was that song again?
I'm still in love with you? Okay, it's just the first first couple of lines. Just want to use text that. Just don't even say anything else though. You ain't got to start with the Hey, how you doing? How's your day? No? No, al Green don't need no introductions. Okay, you don't need any small talk. Al Green gets to the point. So you send those lyrics. Don't say anything else. Let her marinate on it a little bit, let her think about it a little bit, and I'm telling you it'll work in your favor. Algreen, I'm still in love with you one of my favorite favorite artists. Real quick, before we get to some other stuff. Why do they call it the super Regional? Is that the best name we could come up with? I mean, like, what's up? With the super regional.
I don't know, because it's a Sweet sixteen. Basically, there's sixteen teams left and they're gonna go eight go to Omaha. So I don't know why they call it the super regional.
It's like they couldn't get very creative. They're like, well, we had a regional and this one's better, so it's just the super regional.
Yeah. It sounds like somebody was in the meeting was like, you know what, I got an idea, why don't we call it the super regional? And then the person was important, so everybody's like, yeah, that's a great idea, let's do that, Steve, And it just kind of stuck, you know what I mean. But super regional, you know, sweet sixteen has such a ring to it, right when you say sweet sixteen. Ye, everybody knows what that is. Super regional. I feel like we could do better than super regional. So that was something I was thinking about.
I don't have an answer for you. I don't know why they call it that.
I mean, I think we need to work shopping. I think we need to have a meeting to come up with a better name in the offseason. Okay, now here's my other thing. I want you all to go with me to a place, an imaginary place, okay, and I want you all to just think about this specific scenario. Right. The year is twenty thirty two, all right, is everybody there will be in the year twenty thirty two? Okay, twenty years after the twenty twelve national championship run right under cow? Okay, Anthony Davis is back at RUBB, Michael Kidd, Gil Chris, all the players on that team. I'm back at Rupp Arena and the crowd is going crazy. It's before some big game, right and then they announce, and also the coach of that team, John Caliperry. Right now, here's what I want to know from all of you you in the room. What would have to happen between now and then for you to stand up and applaud in that exact moment. I know you go cheer for Anthony Davis. I know you go cheer for all those other players, but to give him a standing ovation for you, specifically, what would have to happen between right now and the year twenty thirty two, when they certainly are going to celebrate that team. I want to go around the room, what would have to happen for you to physically stand up and applaud cow in that exact moment. Ryan, you want to start.
Okay, Well, this is an awesome question. I love it because we are faced with that exact scenario next year with the nineteen ninety six team and Rick Patino. It's the twenty year anniversary in twenty twenty six, they' the same thing when Patino go comes out, and I think enough time has passed from Patino since he left Louisville and he went to Greece, iona Saint John's, he's kind of got himself back in our good graces again. So to answer your question, that's what's gonna have to Cali Perry. He's gonna have to leave Arkansas after you know, four or five six years, kind of maybe going to broadcast booth for a couple of years, say some really good things about Kentucky, be very complimentary of whoever the coach is at the time, and then maybe in twenty years I would stand up if he did all this.
No, I would stand up in twenty years, twenty thirty.
No, it's not twenty years now, No, twenty third, it's not twenty years that's like eight years from now. Okay, So we're talking like eight years from now the twenty year anniversary of that team. So we're celebrating the twenty year anniversary of the twenty twelve run. So I mean, it's it's closer than you think. So with that change it for you, Ryan, is that too soon? Well?
Again, I think he would have to be out of Arkansas for at least three or four years and have to real you know, like I said, he goes in the broadcast booth and really be complimentary of Kentucky and how much he loved his time there and it's the best job I ever had, blah blah blah, and then I think it can happen.
Okay, what about you.
Yeah, as our listeners know, I was very ready for the Caliperry breakup. I still, you know, love everything he did earlier in his time. So as long as it doesn't get too messy between when it's ahead of Arkansas, there'll be rivalries and there'll be a little shade back and forth in press conferences. But as long as he's just not flat out and disrespecting Kentucky, I'll be ready to give him that ovation in eight years celebrating what he did in twenty twelve. It's gonna be very awkward for a few years. He's gonna get booed in Reperina, We're gonna talk our trash because he went to an end conference rival. But in eight years, even though I was done with him this past season, I will be ready to give that ovation if it's that far down the road, even though eight years isn't that long.
Yeah, you're right, though, I mean what if it is messy though, What if it gets messy between if he starts throwing shade and it gets a little nasty, I will, Yeah, I don't know that it will be a standing ovation.
I will be clapping that we're celebrating that championship.
But I don't know that You're You're not getting up out of your seat. You're not gonna stand up out of your seat when they say John Caliperi, you're not getting up out of your seat. At Rapperina and a Plot, he's standing next to Anthony Davis. They're hugging and they're cheering, and they're you're not gonna applaud that moment. You're not gonna get up out of your seat in applaud is that what you're saying.
I will, if we're good from now on, if it got real nasty in this Arkansas Kentucky rivalry, maybe not as it stands now, I'll be fine and excited to welcome back, build a statue, put his name in the arena on down the road. But right now it's gonna be an.
Ugly few years.
But in eight years I'll be ready to applaud him.
We just have to remember that that Patino flipped us off what he was.
That's exactly what I about to say.
So let's remember I Patino went and coached our rival, our biggest rival, the team we hate the most on.
The planet out of everybody.
Gave us the middle finger on his way out of Rapperina, and now we love him again. Right, So, Caliperi didn't do anything close to what Patino did. And I think that even though we are going to boo Caliperry when he's introduced as the Arkansas head coach every time he comes to Rapperina, if we're honoring the twenty twelve team, I think we can still applaud him for what he did in that moment. We're not necessarily applauding that he left us for Arkansas. We're applauding the team and what he accomplished in that year twenty twelve. So I think, see that, I think that's the what would happen if he came back for that?
Yeah, that's the complication of right, because I mean, it's not saying he's coming back with our of course you boo him, right. Of course you're gonna boo when he comes back next year in the years after that. But you know, I feel like when you're celebrating a special team, does some of that go out the window? You know what I mean?
Now?
But now I'm even interested in this because and what's the number again for people to call? Give me that nine eighty.
Five nine two eight zero two two eight seven. That's the Clark's Pumping Shop phone number.
What has to happen for you, listeners twenty thirty two, eight years from now, for you when they announced John Caliper with that twenty twelve National Championship team, for you to stand up in your seat at reperena and to applaud like genuinely I'm not to like a fake clap, but like a genuine applause. I want to hear from you. But in this moment because of the Rick Patino cycle and because he's going from villain to you know, coaching at uh Louisville Loveville. Whatever y'all say, I know, I can't say it Loveville. I was at a conference last week with some coaches from that school and I said it the way I said and they were like, you can't say it like that. Well, I'm like, I don't know how to say it like y'all. So you know, I don't know. Do y'all have a class? Is there a Rosetta Stone? But for people in Kentucky, I don't know, But you all need to help me out. But Rick Patino's going through that cycle. Right. Have we reached a point like right now? I'm not talking about years from now, right now. Does Big Blue Nation like Patino more than cal Like right now? Right?
It feels that probably, right, I think they do at this moment. Yeah, Patino kind of got back in our good graces in the last year, especially with the things he did from Mark Pope, Calim Perry leaves us, goes to a conference rival. Yeah, I think if you had a popularity poll right now, Patino may be ahead.
I'm still a no on that count me in the no camp. The man has a Louisville tattoo tattooed on his until he gets a Kentucky tattoo. He's branded Louisville, and I don't stand for that.
If we bring him to we haven't removed like at halftime, like then.
Drew Franklin then went to Patino's camp, will start loving him again. But right now he's got that stupid l on his back.
Man, that that would be an event. Okay, who we got a caller? We do?
Yeah, go first, let's go to Drew.
Drew, how you doing Marry Monday? Man? What's something that made you smile? Something made you happy?
I'm for sure Merry Monday to you guys as well. Yesterday kicked off Vacation Bible School, which is listeners don't know. It's just like a little week long event for kids at are church and churches around this area.
And I was in Vacation Bible School every single summer, man. You know what I loved about it? They have these lunches, man, and they had these blogoney sandwiches with like with like the orange the purple juice. You know what I'm talking about the purple juice and little plastic thing you had to rip the illumino foil joint.
Bro.
They would give me an extra one because they like me, you know, so I'd have like three juices, a couple of sandwiches, and I respect that a little king. Then yeah, oh yeah, my daughter I ran it basically.
Now I got you. My daughter, she they had a game where they played with water balloons outside to kind of show them just just let them have some fun out there. She's four, and just watching her get out there and run around and laugh and just be with other kids and just enjoy the moment. Man, if you ever having a bad day, if you've got kids, take them out, let them play with other kids and just watch and just enjoy it it. Time goes by so fast, and make me that's a beautiful that's a beautiful thing.
Man. What I don't know what you called in about, but the cow scenario. The year's twenty thirty two. He comes back with the twenty twelve team to be celebrated to honor that team, would you stand up and applaud? And if not, what would he have to do to make you stand up and applaud him at ropp Arena.
Yeah, you know, I'm kind of in the minority. I don't mind Cat, I don't mind Calm. I'm totally fine with him right now. I didn't like the way it ended. I thought that maybe, you know, he'd be a little bit better off. But it is what it is with that. So I'll stand up and clap for him in five years as long as he's not the Arkansas coach. As long as he's, like Ryan said, maybe a year or two remove from that, I have no problems getting up and clipping at that point.
Okay, I appreciate that. That feels like an obvious sort of caveat there. If he's still at Arkansas, that that's a little more complicated. Yes, do it, then that's a little more Yeah, that that makes sense to me. Who's our next caller.
Let's go to Brian.
Doing on this Mary Monday. What's something that made you He made you smile on this Mary Monday.
Well, you're questions what was that? Yeah, questions about the twenty two twenty two Calm Perry coming back. I gotta kick out of that.
Okay, cool, cool, So it's twenty thirty two, twenty years from the twenty twelve National Championship run you are at rapp Arena, they say Cal's name. What would you have to do to make you stand up and applaud in that exact moment.
There's a few things. Number running, he's gonna get a real dog, A fake dog?
What's what do you mean.
Throwing shady?
We still like to do.
I mean, there's not do with it. But you're to me, a real dog for a man is like a dumber and pincherman, or while.
They or something like that.
Okay, you want an attack dog. Okay, all right, So he's got to get a new dog.
The second thing would be for him to change his attitude a little bit.
What does that mean? Help me understand that? To me?
To me is I don't know. I guess that's why I know how to say it is. He seems arrogant when he's talking about everything in sports in particular. I mean, this is the greatest, this greatest, this, and then you can't even make it past to first round in the tournament. But as for me wanting to come back to the UK, I never want him back there again.
Interest my opinion on it. I appreciate that I have.
A lot of respect for the twenty twelve team. Don't take me wrong, but every time I pinch you all the miss as we had, especially two thousand fourteen, No, God.
No, you wouldn't stand up a plot. Okay, well, I appreciate that call. I mean, I get that sentiment of this idea that you know, people feel like maybe he's being a little arrogant. There's also there's also an element of like, for that first year or two, everything your ex does bolog you, right, Like, that's still an element of that, right, you can't really do the right thing, you know, So I think there'll be some of that. I feel like twenty thirty two, though, you'll be passed maybe a lot of that, and then it's maybe a clear slate for everybody. You know, Like that feels like it's enough time from when he left, enough time from the drama for people to say, Okay, that was a very special run, a very special team. Let's all stand up and applaud, assuming to Drew's point that nothing crazy happens. And listen, I wouldn't put that past Cal because if anyone in college basketball has ever wanted the last laugh, I think it's Cal so I definitely think there's a scenario where things are okay and then Cal does some interview that sets everybody off.
I think we kind of all hit on it. It's got to be a couple of years from removed from him coaching at Arkansas, Like even if he's a coached somewhere else, I think he's got to be even away from it, whether he's on TV and say some really nice things about if it's coach Pope or whoever it is in the UK programming, is days here for us to kind of welcome him back into the fold a little bit.
I think it will help that about twenty thirty two, I mean Kentucky will have at least another championship with Mark Pope, so even the title, so I mean we're kind of looking at an old title there celebrating. We might even forget about twenty twelve by the time we win a couple more.
That would change everything the national championship. That would certainly set the tone for him to come back and kind of remove I think any of the emotion around that we will be back after this talk to him. Now, let us breathe a little bit, Let it breathe. Being near with you. I can't explain myself. Come on out, talk to him. Come on now, wow, well here we go, you god dude, come on, al let's go baby. Last one heard miss. So I'm telling y'all, I'm trying to hit y'all of some game here about Al Green. He'll change your life. I need he will change your romantic life. I don't care. Your age might be there some young people listening, maybe in your early twenties. You're like, I don't know anything about this old school music. Try it, okay, put it on the What do y'all do to snapchat of the ten dow? I don't know what y'all are put put it on there, all right? Older? Are you an older person trying to get your game back, trying to get your groove back? Put some Al Green lyrics out there. Try it. It'll change you. I assure you, it will change you. It's been a fun show so far. Man. I think this cow question got people thinking a little bit. It's something I've been thinking about fellas. I've been thinking, like, Okay, fine, yes he left in twenty twenty four, but you have to honor that twenty twelve team. You have to right and that's a special run and you have to you you can't take anything away from that team because of the drama right now, right, I don't think that would be fair to that team if they came in and because Cal is there, there were like there was like a lukewarm reception, Like I don't think that'll happen, But if that happened, that wouldn't be fair of those guys who listen. I've covered every Final four of the last I think fifteen years or something like that. The Anthony Davis lead run was one of the most dominant, was one of the best runs that we've seen. You gotta give them their full credit. Even though there's that sort of drama there with Cal, I think fellas if.
It's not as amplicable as we think it might be. I can see him not even coming. I can see him not want really up and being booed. I don't think he would do it, do you.
Drew Oh if it were still bad in the years, I could see that.
But I just don't think it will get to that point.
I think both aside from being a rivalry and getting a few jabs here and there, I think it'll be pretty anal moving forward. Hopefully I'll celebrate even more than the championship team. His first ten years were my favorite years of a UK fan. I'll celebrate the team that, you know. Unfortunately we had the twenty fifteen in to get the final four. If they want to come back, I'll give them an ovation.
I'll give about any of them ovation.
It was just the last few years we had. You talked about going to several final fours. Well, we've kind of forgotten what that was like around here. That's it just ended so poorly. But as far as looking back at the first half of his career, I'll plaud any of them.
It's gonna be interesting to see, Uh, what happened? We got a caller.
Here, Yes, let's go to a peanut.
Peanut, what's up Mary Monday? Peanut? What what's something that made you happy? Something that made you smile?
Yesterday was my birthday.
My wife spoiled me so happy birthday. How old were you, a peanut?
Forty eight?
Okay, congrats? What's your real name? Peanut?
Great? Yeah, Tray, Okay, I live down here.
Okay, you're gonna applaud cal in twenty thirty two at Reperena.
Yeah, you know, what.
I'm being honest with you.
I'm cool with cal now, you know. I mean, it'd be different if we didn't get pope, and everything wouldn't look good. But I ain't mad at every time.
You ain't mad, so you would stand out and applaud it.
You bad. He brought us one of them, one of them bandits, so he deal with me.
I respect that. I definitely respect that. I'm ahead.
I got a couple more things we'll say.
You're.
And uh, I appreciate that.
And yesterday and then to kill it.
I appreciate that, man, I wasn't you. You know people, I get messages from a lot of Kentucky people when MAT's not on, and it's like, you know it ain't. It's like when you had the fake Aunt viv on Fresh Pencevale air, you know what. I mean, the same for them a little bit. So I appreciate hearing that last thing.
For you you're talking about a green, Yes, sir, I'm old ready. Even I know Luther and some Verry White.
Lufah, tell them about Luther. Tell them, tell the people about Luther, because you know Luther could do it too. Man, you can't go wrong with Luther. Van Drasse either.
You ain't like it's you know, its own. That's what he said, his own want of white men. Let's get that.
Let's get Marvin Gaye. Let me tell you I appreciate that Peanuts. See, it doesn't matter where you're from. Our green is universal. That kind of music, it's just it's just real. I don't know if they make it anymore today, but that's just real love music, you know, And I really respect that. Before we go to another call, I think Ryan, you got a livery. I think we got to do that. I think Dream is gonna do one.
I'll jump in it. Yeah, I'll tell you about no Cha Linda Farms. Father's Day and grilling just got together like fire and beef. Luthor Vanstraw. That's another one. You can jam to Luther all day. Man. I love it.
Man.
I'm getting a lot of tweets from people who who are confirming my al Green love. You know, Oh yes, it's good. It's good to know, man, because you know, I mean, that's just that's just you. There's some music out there, fellas where it doesn't matter the genre. It's just good music, you know what I mean. It doesn't matter you know, like what kind of music you like, it's just good music. I'm a Johnny Cash fan. That's just good. That's just good music. Frank Sinatra my way who cannot like Frank Sinatra? Are you kidding me? That's just genuinely good music man. So I think Al Green, Lutha Van Dress, I think there's certainly in that category for me. Before we get to more calls, we got another live read. We gotta read something else. Yeah, I can do it. Other Okay, we had like eight of them or something. I'm trying to get it.
He's got going ready to go. Do not let those do not let those aches and pains or an injuries slow you down. And Myron we should have probably told you this before the show started, but uh, you can't play songs on the podcast, so when you've been singing, it's just gonna be you a cappella on the podcast.
Well, can I tell you something about that? The people need that, you know, I'm not afraid of that, you know what I mean. So I think it's good because you'll still hear you know, Al Green, You'll still hear some of it, you know what I mean. So well, it must be working here.
I got another text on Navys and Glass, text asking if myron is single. That's the second one today after hearing all this music.
It's not me. It's not me people like I would love to tell you it's me, like I'm doing something special, like it's my voice, so my Presentay, now those things are amazing, right, don't let me knows what I know what I'm doing. But al Green just adds to every I don't care what kind of mood you're in. I don't care what's going on at home. Somebody right now is listening and they're like, you know what, last night was terrible. You know with my significant other. We got into an argument, a fight. She's on the left side I'm on the right side. I'll tell you what to do. You just walk in and play some Algrie, don't say a word, just go about your day, don't say anything. Give it about thirty minutes, and then watch the mood change. I'm just telling you what I know. Who's our first caller, Nancy? Nancy, how you doing on this merry Monday? Was something that's made your smile, something that's made you happy?
Okay, I am in Massachusetts. I live in Kentucky, but I'm in mass Juesse. I'll walk my granddaughter to school today, which really made me happy.
That's awesome, That's awesome.
But I called in about al Green.
Together.
Let's Stay Together. That was my favorite song when I graduated from high school. Okay, so that's probably gonna tell you my age.
Beautiful song. That's a beautiful song.
It is, it is, what's one of my favorites. I'm also a big Kentucky sports fan, so I listened to KSR and the pre show every day. And somebody said, I really need to get a life, and I've told them that, but I love it and I find out other things besides you know, Okay, the match with what was the match that's just been canceled. Oh you know who I'm talking about the boxing.
Match, Tyson postpone not canceled.
Okay, okay post So my grandson who's thirteen. We talked about that yesterday and I said, I found out about that on the KSR show. See, yeah, I wouldn't see.
That's a beautiful thing you got. You got your granddaughter. You're listening to Al Green, you're listening to KSR. That sounds like a great life. Anybody hating on that, they're not living right, that's not your problem, you know what I mean. If they don't understand how to live and enjoy life, that's on them, So I respect it. She talked about let's stay together. I want you all to hear how he opens let's stay together because I'm trying to help you save your relationships. And he starts out saying, I'm so in love with you. Whatever you want to do is alright with me, cause you make me feel so brand new and I want to spend my life with you. It doesn't get better than that, doesn't. I mean, that's just that's some songwriting.
Right, Ladies are melting all over the Commonwealth.
Just I'm trying to help you all out. Okay, I don't know, I got break.
We'll play it next break, Okay.
I hope. So thank you for the call. Listen. I don't know a lot, but I know a little good talking to me too.
I didn't hear Teddy's name mentioned with Barry all these ledge a little Teddy Pendergrasser.
Lyrics. Turn off lights, turn off, turn off the lights, turn off, candle turn them off. Yeah that he does that part. I'll tell you a Teddy Prindergast Pendergrad song that everybody needs to hear. But it's not by Teddy Pendergrass. It's by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. And it's called Miss You. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Let's play that when we come back. It is one of the greatest love songs in the world. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes recruited Teddy Pendergrass to be their lead singer. Uh and this is one of their classic songs. And I'm telling you that's the song you play when you lost her, right like, when it's clear that it's over, you know what I mean, and you're trying to grapple with the pain of that, and and then you're just hoping that maybe one day you see her at the grocery store or at the park or just somewhere. That's when you play Miss You by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, which is Teddy Pendergrass leading that song, because the lyrics there, they're powerful. But you got to be in the right mood, right, You got to be in the right mood for me. Oh here he is, Come on, talk to him? Who listen to him? Listen to Teddy pendograds. He lost her, she's gone, she's got a new thing going on. She moved across town. She won't respond to your text, but he's crying out his heart for it. And this is just special, special, Teddy P. So I'm telling you miss You Harold Melvin and the Blue Melts. But that's after she's gone though, Like you know, if you're like, Okay, I got a chance, that's not for you. But when it's been some time and you're reflecting on her being gone, that's when you get into Teddy P. You gotta go from I'll tell you the steps. You start without Green, you graduate to Luther vandross you in with Teddy P. Like, don't just go to level three with Teddy p when you haven't taken those steps. But that's a powerful song. Who's our next car Thomas Thomas? How you doing on this Mary Monday? Doing good?
Doing good? I've enjoyed this Marry Monday so far. But my Ron, we've got a shift a little bit. I can't believe we've got this far. I can't believe we've got this far in the show. A little controversy a few months back. If you recall a tweet by you yourself be loved.
As no man stuff.
Man, you like to take this moment right now and apologize.
Listen, man, you know what, I didn't know when it would come up. I figured it would come up at some point, you know what. That was one of those tweets where when I hit sinned, I knew it was a bad idea. But I don't believe in deleting tweets like I just you know, if I put something out there and people don't like it, I'm gonna leave it out there because you know, I believe that the way it goes, you know what I mean. So, and then of all people, Matt Jones, I think Matt Jones quote tweeted it and said shut up right, which I think is which is what set everybody off. No, just like a good friend right here, I am thinking that he's gonna have my back maybe, and that's not what happened. So yeah, I don't remember what I was doing that day, but that that could have stayed in the drafts. What I wasn't prepared for was how many Kentucky fans challenged me to a fight at very specific locations. Okay, Like there was a couple dudes who reached out and said, meet me at Al's Bar in this little city on Friday night. And I'm like, hold on a second, do you just go to that bar on Friday nights to fight people? Because you know, I don't know if I want to be involved in that. So that was a bad moment. And you know, listen, I love Read Shepherd. I did a piece on Read Shepherd. But not my best day. Not my best day. So my apologies to to Big Blue Nation. I wasn't trying to role anybody up.
You know, just watch out the next time you show up at Chas Bar.
Now I was already there. No, I'll be okay. People, I'm like, people like you know what I mean. Once you see him, then you're good.
Yeah, it's all good mine.
We love you.
I appreciate it. I'll be here this summer, you know, so I'm probably gonna be in Less ten a few times. So, but yeah, fellas, what'd you all think of that twet? Because it was, you know, like I said, a bunch of people were challenging me to like actual fights, you know what I mean. And I was like, Okay, you know, this dude seems kind of serious, you know, more serious than I understood. I knew people love read Shepherd, but here's what I learned in that tweet. And I told matthis, I didn't know how much y'all heared Duke. I legitimately did not know that Duke was that high up on your list. What it's like, it's like the cards, and then it's what tennessee, and then Duke is third. Is that the ranking?
I think that might be the most popular answer you'd get if you pull the BBN those three at the top, and I Duke was three. The Labener people that weren't even born in ninety two, they just have a hate that they inherited from their family gets passed down generations. That game, I don't even have memories from that game. But I hate him. Everyone hates him if you're a Kentucky fan.
Drew and I didn't want to bring this up. I figured that Coler was going to bring this up at some point, about that tweet that you know, we love you, Myron, but you can't connect them one of Kentucky's favorite sons with Duke of all places like that. Yeah, that's that was the mistake.
I just thought you were a little hungry, maybe didn't get enough sleep, man, kind of like you said, you just weren't in the right frame room.
That's what I wasn't my best self. I'll say that, you know, and I shouldn't have tweeted it, But yeah, I didn't know. I learned about the Duke ate through your boy Matt.
Didn't help, didn't your boy Matt didn't help your calls.
He made it worse. But I wasn't surprised. I earned that. I'll take it. We'll be back after this break love with you, talk to him whatever you wanta do. Come on, al, It's all right with me.
I can't wait to hear the podcast.
I can't hit this note that out here. He goes a little higher than I can go. But man, I love this song so so Brandon, Come on, al I love it. Man who spend my life? This is good stuff.
But you already gave the song of the day.
You're gonna change it has Okay, I'll keep loving happiness. Okay, I'll keep it loving.
Happy Temple Hit. Joe didn't get the award. Man, Yeah, he was close.
Here's the thing he was. He was close. I've been getting so many tweets from listeners who love Al Green. I'm telling you, like this is BBN loves Al Green. There are so many people reaching out and saying how incredible he is. So I'm glad I can add a little bit of that musical vibe on this Mary Monday before we get to some calls before the end of the show. We got one more, Livery.
Yes, we do, got one more. Segment is sponsored by corn Bread Hemp. This is serious stuff. Americans are in danger of losing their right to full spectrum CBD products like the ones made it corn bread hemp. At this very moment, prohibition groups are trying to reverse the twenty eighteen Farm Bill that made hemp legal, which means recriminalizing a plant that we all depend on for a better quality of life. But the good news is you can help and there's still time to act. All you need to do is go to cornbreadheimp dot com slash ksr. That's cornbreadheimp dot com slash ksr. Click on the link to contact your members of Congress to tell them that you want to keep cornbread hemp legal. And you can do that cornbreadthamp dot com slash ksr to keep cornbread hemp legal.
Back to you, Maron.
Cool, Is that our last one?
Yeah, that's a lot to get them in. Yep, we got them.
It's like fifteen of them. I don't want I want to make sure I get to all of them.
We got them.
It's been it's been a fun show. And listen, I'll be here every Monday. I'm getting tweeked about why don't you get into the Mark Pope stuff the line. I have so much to say about the talent that Mark Pope has assembled. And again, I'll be here every Monday, so we will certainly get into that. I know the staff really well, so I'm looking forward to kind of what's ahead. But who's our first caller that's out there? Let's go to Marcia, Marsha, how you doing on this merry Monday. What's something that made you happy? Something that made you smile.
My baby girl's birthday today.
Happy birthday. Happy? What's her what's her agent name?
Kendall? He's thirty two.
Oh my goodness, Happy birthday, kendallthday, birthday, birthday?
Hey haw, Ryan said, he feels old.
Kend Okay, happy birthday.
Look, I have to weigh in on this. Cali Perry and when he brings his hind end into Rupperreena, Marcia is going to get up off of her hind in and she is going to cheer very loudy unless between here and then he pulls a Platino and talks about us like we're raving lunatics. I have no reason to boot Cap. I was disappointed in our last game. Okay, we love Reed Shepherd. His game was terrible. Are we going to boot him? His last game was bad? I'm not going to boot Cap. And like I said, he gave us some of the most exciting games years. We were so full of Twenty ten was one of the best years ever because we just come out of help and we were so excited and look what Cal delivered. I camped out for seventeen years, and twenty ten was my favorite year to camp out. I love Cal, and I will out of respect a pope.
If Mark Cope wasn't our coach, a Patino gets booze, he has, he's lost. I've lost all respect for him. And I didn't like Cal going to.
Hokansas, but hits free country and they're all basketball jigglos.
Anyway, so whoa then kind of coffee there? Okay? Wow, okay? Uh, you know, I respect that though I respect that that sentiment about you know what, it feels like there's a camp that would applaud today. It feels like there's a camp where it's gonna take a little bit of more time. Let's get to one more call at least. Uh all right, who's next?
Let's go to David.
David, how you doing this Merry Monday? What's something that made you happy? Something that made you smile?
Well, I'm not gonna lie, I think listen to and certainly put a smile on my face.
Won't he do it? I mean he'll do it to you.
I told you it really will.
I love the show and I'm so glad you're gonna be joining us on Mondays for this this song or hiatus until Matt gets back.
I appreciate that.
Hey, with the Reed Shepherd thing, I remember when you when you tweeted that, and I thought about it. Last Friday, I was I took my wife to the orthopedist. He's a Duke fan, and he saw me for two minutes, saw me in a UK shirt, had to talk trash. So when I hear you talk about Reid Shepherds like a Duke guy, no, God, bless you, love your writing, love you on there. But yeah, he's no, they can't help themselves. They're just obnoxious, obnoxious people. And Reed Shepherd didn't like that. Even the Louisville fans.
You don't like that.
Uh you know, I go ahead.
I appreciate that. No, I appreciate that. I honestly, I've worked with Matt Jones almost you know, seven years or something like that. I knew Tennessee. Obviously, I understood Louisville Lovelle. What you know I said, I did not. I did not understand the Duke. I'm telling you, I did not understand. It was to that degree. I just didn't, you know what I mean? But I learned well.
I live in DC, and I gotta tell you, man, they are a different breed of people and their fan base, their players. It's like, just keep your distance. I don't care how talented they say you are as one of the finest doctors. I don't want that. They're obnoxious, obnoxious people. I'm gonna root for call I'm gonna cheer for Caw when we see him, as long as nothing bad happens between now and then. No U mass or Memphis stuff. A lot of affection for him. It was time, It was time. But anyway, man, y'all have a great day. God bless love the show. Don't know you guys, but we really love you guys from Afar. If you can, if you get my drift a lot of affection, have a wonderful day.
I appreciate that. I love the vibe too. I think Mary Mondays are gonna stick around even when Matt comes back. You know, I think he should adapt the Merry Mondays fellas. This has been fun. I'm looking forward to doing it, uh, you know the rest of the summer while Matt is a touring Europe for a couple of months. So yeah, thank you all for thank you to BBN for you know, letting me come in and host and giving me some grace after the read Shepherd, I don't want to fight y'all. By the way, off that tweet, Like I know, there's a couple of dudes who you know, for it, they wanted to like meet up at a specific place. I'm forty one years old almost, I'm not I'm not fighting anybody, you know what I mean. If you want to yell at me, fine, but I hope maybe over this stint on KSR for the next couple weeks and then me telling people about al Green, maybe maybe that will solve, you know, maybe the gap between us because I got more music, I got more singing, I got more takes, and you're gonna get this. Every Monday, Mary Mondays with Myer Metcalf and the crew, Let's go Babby having a breakdown a great week
