We speak with Dr. Susan Madsen, professor at USU, about the role DEI plays in colleges, why they are conversations that are often uncomfortable, but needed, and why we need to listen to the research done on this.

During this year’s Utah legislative session, Representative Katy Hall sponsored a bill related to DEI. The bill aimed to prohibit the use of certain statements or materials by a state entity to determine employment, admission, or other benefits. We speak to her about the bill, and her thoughts on some of the DEI initiatives in Utah colleges, and her concerns.

Weber State University President Brad Mortensen joins us for our last segment to talk about why having conversations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is important on college campuses, and some of the policies have proven to work for students who come from diverse backgrounds.
