The grim announcement came early Thursday from Pres. Joe Biden, who confirmed the U.S. had recorded its one millionth death from COVID-19.

The news came hours before the president hosted world leaders for the latest global pandemic summit in Washington, D.C.  During the first summit, he pledged the nation would donate 1.2 billion vaccine doses worldwide.  In the latest event, Pres. Biden is expected to appeal for a renewed international commitment to attacking the deadly virus, which has claimed more than two million lives in Europe.

Of the one million COVID deaths nationwide, Texas is responsible for 88,414, according to Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Pres./CEO Stephen Love.  That represents almost nine percent of the U.S. total.

Love told KRLD's Chris Sommer COVID cases are up slightly in North Texas, although hospitalizations remain flat.  He added that emergency rooms across the region are seeing more heat-related conditions, upper respiratory issues and water-related cases
