Dr. Nidia Morrell is the Resident Astronomer at Carnegie Science’s Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. Dr. Morrell's work in observational astronomy has been pivotal in uncovering the secrets of star formation and evolution, providing insights that are crucial for our understanding of events like solar eclipses.



Joining her is Dr. Julien Rojas-Arispea - a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carnegie Science Earth and Planets Laboratory where he specializes in the isotopic compositions of organic matter and the flux of interplanetary dust.



Together, they helped shed light on the science and significance of solar eclipses to get us all ready for the big day on April 8th.

Though we all have differences, there’s one commonality that has prevailed for all of humanity: we are all floating on a rock, flying through outer space at over a million miles an hour.

For years, humans have ventured away from that shared rock in hopes of learning about the universe and ultimately how it created us.

The scale and sheer size of the universe make it impossible to truly learn everything, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

The death toll in Monday's Israeli strike on Lebanon has grown to more than 490 people, according to Lebanese authorities. The attack is part of Israel's attempt to move Hezbollah away from the Lebanon-Israel border, and it comes less than a week after an attack on communication devices killed dozens in Lebanon. It raises a lot of questions about whether this is an all-out war, and if not -- where does it end? CBS News military analyst Jeff McCausland joined KRLD on Tuesday.
