California is one of the world’s largest producers of wine, but the state imports plenty from around the world, especially the European Union. According to one industry analyst, imports of wine and spirits from the EU have been valued in recent years at over a billion dollars. So local businesses working in this industry are concerned, as President Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on the EU next, after targeting China.  One spirit that’s quintessentially San Francisco is Fernet Branca. In fact, it’s so popular that 35 percent all of the Fernet imported into the U.S. is consumed in San Francisco alone.  The reason? KQED’s Amanda Font looked into it for our Bay Curious podcast.
