This week, a federal court in Southern California will hear arguments over the future of a program offering legal services to immigrant families, who were forcibly separated at the border during President Donald Trump’s first term. Several legal aid nonprofits were receiving federal funding to provide those services until the Trump administration ended the contract in April, saying the government would run the program itself.
