Today you can hike the land around Sutro Tower and see views of San Francisco and the East Bay stretching all the way to Mount Diablo. But back in 1930, the land Sutro Tower now stands on belonged to Adolph Gilbert Sutro who built a mansion on the foggy plot he had inherited from his more famous grandfather. Just 40 years later, Sutro’s dream home more closely resembled something out of a nightmare.
