San Francisco Faces Lawsuit Over Taxi Medallions

View descriptionShare

A local credit union is suing San Francisco over taxi medallions, the licenses to operate cabs. The San Francisco Federal Credit Union financed loans so the city could sell medallions to drivers, many of whom are people of color and immigrants. Then the city allowed Lyft and Uber to operate without medallions, crushing the taxi industry. Now drivers can’t pay their loans and are defaulting.
