Over the past 2 years, California has prohibited the use of rap lyrics in criminal trials. The state made history as the first to enact this kind of law, and the practice has grown nationally. Playing rap songs in court dates back to the early 1990's. One of the most famous cases happened in the bay area during the trial of one of the region's most famous rappers, Mac Dre.
