With a heat wave frying much of California this week, pushing temperatures well above normal for this time of year, concerns are growing about conditions inside state prisons. These facilities weren’t built for extreme heat, and advocates warn both staff and incarcerated people face dangerous temperatures. Now state job safety regulators are proposing new protections for prisons. KQED’s Farida Jhabvala Romero reports.
