Oakland Community News Publication Lends an Ear to Immigrants Struggling to Access Pandemic Resources

Over the past two years, a community news hub in Oakland called El Timpano has been putting its namesake to good use. Timpano is Spanish for “eardrum” – and it’s been doing A LOT of listening – especially attuned to the needs of Latino and Mayan immigrants across the East Bay. El Timpano’s latest report focuses on frustration that folks have about vital pandemic resource, or a lack thereof.  Folks who’ve answered their calls and texts inquiries say these resources aren’t reaching them. Brian Watt talks with Tania Quintana, a community organizer with El Timpano.
