New Report Analyzes Changes in Legal Landscape Following Grants Pass Ruling

Last year, a pivotal Supreme Court decision reshaped how homelessness is policed in much of the country by giving local governments the green light to enforce bans on public camping. Since then, Gov. Gavin Newsom has pushed California cities to crack down on encampments…most recently by releasing a model ordinance banning public camping he wants them to follow. A new report from UC Berkeley looks at how the legal landscape has changed in the past year. KQED housing affordability reporter Vanessa Rancaño spoke with Laura Riley, Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at Berkeley Law, about what she and her students found.
