Love for the Big Green Blob That is the Oakland Monster

View descriptionShare

Tonight, the California Preservation Awards will honor the best in architectural restoration -- public buildings, gracious homes, and Oakland’s mid-century Monster, a combination sculpture AND play structure on the shores of Lake Merritt.  The Monster was completed in 1952 and was a hit with Oakland kids ever since. But by 2015, the monster was in bad shape…the city installed a chain link fence around it.  Raquel Maria Dillon talks with the people who led the effort to restore it.
