Many public health experts say that federal funding cuts to HIV and AIDS research could set back progress to drastically reduce infections in the United States. One of the places that’s been on the frontlines of that work for years is Maitri. It began as an AIDS hospice in San Francisco and over the years, it’s expanded into care for people recovering from gender affirmation surgery. KQED’s Kyana Moghadam visited Maitri and has this report.
