The University of California system is among the growing number of higher education institutions around the country bracing for financial uncertainty. Last week, UC President Michael Drake announced a hiring freeze across all 10 U-C campuses in the face of threats of federal funding cuts by the Trump administration. UC was also preparing for proposed cuts in state funding. Education experts are concerned about the long-term impacts to “American competitiveness” when it comes to research.
