MARIACHI MUSIC has long been a male dominated genre. A century ago, women mariachi bands didn’t exist … and even 50 years ago, women playing mariachi music were rare. Now a band in Sacramento is just one of several all-female groups in the U.S. trying to rewrite the story of this genre. KQED’s Bianca Taylor tells us about the MARIACHI BONITAS and how they formed.
