Lawmakers in Sacramento face a key legislative deadline Friday.  It’s the last day for the Assembly and Senate to pass bills introduced in their respective chambers. Among the bills making their way through the Legislature is a package of housing reforms, in light of the state’s ongoing housing crisis. One measure AB 609 aims to encourage housing development by removing barriers associated with the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA.  East Bay Assemblymember Buffy Wicks is the bill’s author. She calls CEQA the so-called “sacred cow” of state politics - and she explained why it’s ready for change - speaking with my colleagues Marisa Lagos and Scott Shafer on our Political Breakdown podcast.
