This smothering heat wave is finally going to disappear after more than a week but in to replace it could be some heavy rain. Bands of Hurricane Kay are whipping southern California and could drop a couple of inches of rain this weekend in the foothills and mountains.  

It's unusual for the LA basin to get hit with significant September rain. Then again, it's unusual for heat waves here to last this long.  If this wacky and unpredictable weather becomes the norm, can we adapt?
