Facebook's parent company, Meta, has been hit hard with more than 400 million dollars in fines by regulators in Europe who say the company violated privacy laws.
The regulators say Meta broke the laws by requiring Facebook and Instagram users to enter a “contract” by accepting its terms of service to gain access to the apps. It then used that approval to process people's personal data for the purpose of targeted advertising. This raises questions about whether the federal government here will take action to reign in Meta.
