K-9 Life with Dan Payne & Ofc Brian Sturgeon

Huge Need for K9's

How much does it really cost to put a police K-9 on the street? The answer may surprise you.

Philip Teresi sits down with Dan Payne of Marine Corps League Detachment 14 and Officer Brian Sturgeon of the Fresno Police Department to discuss the growing need to support working dogs across the Central Valley. From specialized breeding and training costs to veterinary care, equipment, and retirement needs, the conversation highlights the significant investment required to keep K-9 units operating safely and effectively. They also explain how these dogs help protect officers, suspects, and the public every day.

Many local agencies are facing ongoing needs for replacement dogs and equipment, making community support more important than ever. The guests also preview the annual K-9 Awards event and discuss how donations directly benefit working dog programs throughout the region.
