City Council Bans Sex Offenders From Meetings 

The reckoning for the labor leader’s sex abuse was swift in Fresno, Calif., the heart of the Central Valley region where the farmworker movement was born. Towns across the nation face similar debates. 

Fresno City Council unanimously approved a measure banning registered sex offenders from attending council meetings in person, responding to concerns sparked by a near-candidacy from Rene Campos, who is on the state registry. The resolution also asks the city attorney to explore using facial recognition to enforce the ban, citing safety concerns where children frequent meeting spaces.
