Will More Police Make Tower District Safer

The ABC30 report highlights how higher fuel prices are affecting both everyday drivers and local charitable organizations throughout Fresno and the broader Central Valley. 

According to Police Chief Mindy Casto, the department has expanded staffing in the Tower District since around 2024 because of concerns about late-night crowds and what she described as the "volatility of the crowd" after bars close. Dimitrios Mastoras contends that lasting improvements require a broader nightlife-safety strategy focused on prevention, coordination, and crowd management, while local law-enforcement leaders maintain that strong police visibility remains an important crime deterrent.
