California’s independent budget watchdog is raising concerns about Governor Gavin Newsom’s revised spending plan, warning the state could be “ill‑prepared” for future economic downturns. While the governor says the roughly $350 billion budget is balanced for the next two years, analysts caution it relies heavily on strong tax revenues tied to the stock market and tech growth, which could change quickly. 

A proposed new Costco in northwest Fresno is facing renewed controversy as legal battles over zoning and environmental issues continue. At the center of the dispute is a large delivery and distribution component attached to the project, which opponents argue functions as an industrial operation that may not be allowed on commercially zoned land.
