Eli Escobar interviewed  President and CEO of  Boys and Girls Club of Great Houston, Kevin Hattery. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) is the region’s leading youth-development organization. Since the beginning in 1952 as The Variety Boys Club, have implemented programs that creatively engage, educate and empower youth in ways that help them achieve and sustain academic and economic success. They are now celebrating 70 years and will be having some Club-wide events in July to celebrate this milestone. They offer a  robust, full-day summer programming Monday through Friday that just started and will engage kids academically, socially and recreationally. They will have opportunities to learn and grow through a variety of activities, including field trips.
Also, this summer they will  celebrate Juneteenth which honors the end to slavery in the  United States. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, in conjunction with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will host a national live streamed webinar at Galveston’s Reedy Chapel AME Church on Thursday, June 16 from noon to 2 p.m. CT to celebrate the historical significance of Juneteenth, which had its origin in Galveston.
