The human digestive system is a remarkable network of organs and processes that work harmoniously to break down food, absorb nutrients, and eliminate waste. It begins in the mouth, where chewing and saliva mixing initiate the breakdown of food. From there, the food travels down the esophagus to the stomach, where it mixes with stomach acid and enzymes to form a semi-liquid substance called chyme. The majority of digestion and nutrient absorption occur in the small intestine, where enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver further break down food into its smallest components. Any remaining undigested material passes into the large intestine, where water and electrolytes are absorbed, forming feces. Finally, feces are stored in the rectum until they are expelled through the anus during a bowel movement. The digestive system is essential for extracting nutrients from food and maintaining overall health and well-being. Learn more about digestive system here presented by Sebin Pious.
