The United States is imposing sanctions against the Nicaraguan government of President Daniel Ortega for its authoritarian rule.

Mr. Ortega has dismantled his political opposition, closed down media outlets and imprisoned students, civic leaders and priests, among others.

Insurance commissioner Ricardo Lara kicked off a weeklong tour of the state in Oakland this morning. 

All week, he's promoting the recent expansion of Medi-Cal health coverage to all residents, regardless of immigration status.

But as KCBS Radio's Raquel Maria Dillon reports, expanding health insurance access might be easier than solving the state's home insurance crisis.
