An international team of researchers has fully sequenced the DNA of a man killed in the aftermath of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. 

There have been previous attempts to extract genetic material from the remains preserved by volcanic ash at Pompeii, but this is the first time a complete genome has been recovered from the site.
