Today is Victory over Japan Day or VJ day. This date marks the day in 1945 when Imperial Japan surrendered unconditionally days after being hit with the Atomic bombs.
This was also moment in history when the international community took the catastrophic capabilities of nuclear weapons, with the following Cold War highlighting just how unwilling global leaders were to employ the weaponry.
But now, some experts fear we're becoming complacent in this regard and underappreciating just how disastrous nuclear war could be.
